Are SNK for real here ? what about us ALREADY PAID CUSTOMERS that bought the game on the consoles ? you should be fixing the console netcode before you start on to the pc netcode.
Am I alone in finding this steam version announcement of “vastly improved netcode” extremely insulting ? so much so to boycott any future snk products ?.
If they don’t also implement this vastly improved netcode in to the console versions (which it looks like they have no plans of doing) I am personally DONE for life with snk.
Your loyal fan feels insulted SNK not pleased with the steam announcement.
Maybe it isn’t that easy to fix the console netcode? Perhaps this is the best way to give us a worthy only experience? Besides, you’ll get the DLC characters, which I for one didn’t buy.
Quality of online is clearly a very important factor in how well a game sells. The majority of players weather for right or wrong do not want to go out of there way to find other players to fight. The hard core players will certainly do regional match making, even travel far distances to play offline but those who play just for fun certainly won’t make that kind of effort. With GGPO making online almost as good as offline, bad online is pretty inexcusable.
I think us already paid customers knew what we were getting into when we bought the game in the first place. The improved netcode is incentive to buy it again.
@d3v, I wouldn’t have gotten top 8 last year at NCR if it weren’t for KOF98 having good online to practice fundamentals. If KOFXIII had good online and me being actually able to play the game I might have gotten into top 8 or better again this year.
Instead, I have nothing but bad experiences with the game and the infrequency of play and the fact that I’m only playing KOF98 and 02 just reaffirms and constantly reminds me of the gripes I have with XIII that most probably would have been alleviated if I actually played the fucking game often.
I’m looking more forward to 98um and 02um on Steam with improved netcode. What’s exciting about any KOF on Steam means easier updates for the devs to put out whenever and better feedback, testing, and responses to improve netcode over a period of time before committing money to pay for console patches that doesn’t seem to be present with PC patches.
I bet we didn’t Climax in the states because Atlus didn’t want to pay that M$ bucks but we’ll never really know.
KOF98UM and KOF2002UM were erased from Steam unfortunately.
SNK learned from Lab Zero and Yatagarasu.
hope for Arc to do the same, though financially they are in a better state.
Steam is much cheaper for smaller scale companies to do updates and then transfer them to the console versions.
PC users will do it for free.
By SNK, who in the past blamed bootlegs and PC piracy for their demise nevertheless…
to the OP:
console netcode fixing requires beta testers from all over the world and unlike on PC, they are not free.
it would be an insult if you bought a console and were also required to do beta testing for the console netcode yourself.
this is what a PC is for and the essential difference between consoles and computers for both players and developers.
