KOF: MI2 / KOF 2006 - Strategy / Techniques / Combos

yea, I don’t really think SNK move inputs are controller friendly.

what makes rock howard c tier

I dont understand hes easily the best in the game imo

Not all opinions are created equal my friend.

It would appear that you haven’t had to deal with Kula permenently zoning your ass out and then taptaptapxL2 ice of death super when you finally get in.

Or Alba defining rushdown even as he reinvents it all over your ass.

Or Billy Kane with what is perhaps the longest/easiest hit confirm into a heinous super ever.

Basically, Rock doesn’t have anything to take advantage of that someone else can’t do much much better. Even his counters, Alba is better at.

On another note, I was fucking giddy to see that Athena can cross-up/do damage via teleport with her ‘bubble hands’ super on.

I have a question…

Would playing the mission modes help me in learning the KoF 06 basics?
Like sidestepping, sabaki, getting up quicker?

Yes and no.

You’ll get accustom to the characters, moves, set ups, etc.

(if you don’t just use armor ralph to plow through it…)

but sidestepping is a purely situational occurance, quick rise is an absolute necessity, and sabaki isn’t so much a defensive/reactive move, like 3S you kind of ‘fill the gaps’ between moments in the fight. Option select type thinking.

I just got this game but don’t have any experience with KOF outside of CvS2. I just want to know what the basic mindset is in this game? Turtling? Rush-down? Spacing? In other words am I supposed to play it like a 2D game (rush down or turtling) or Tekken (spacing and mixups)?

You can play it like a 2D KoF but it will start to feel like Tekken when you’re doing the stylish arts. Difference here is, a lot of the stylish arts are pre-canned combos. Aspects like poking and tick throwing don’t seem to play that big of a role in this game afaik.

i think it’s definitely a rushdown game, there just really isnt any room for turtling unless you’re playing Jivatma really, and even then you’re just asking for rape because you can only space for so long before someone does empty hyperhop and sweeps you for a guaranteed ridiculous otg juggle ( unless you’re REEAALLY good with sabaki and are completely unpredictable in followups )

tick throwing isnt so much involved as you can do blocked string into command throw if you’re Maxima, Ralf or Clark and then followup, but rarely will you see something like cr.A walk up throw being successful ( unless you’re maybe K’ and you’re going for his D throw combo? ) it’s reeaally hard to get off normal throws in this game against someone good

I wouldn’t disagree with you there. I think Kula can turtle should the need be there though.

You aren’t too far away from me in DE, we should get together for some gaming soon.

what are your thoughts on nagase?

do you think this is a tournament friendly game?
is it better or worse(in your opinions) than KOF XI?

who is considered the best punisher? i dont need to get into like supers or anything…just normal and in general

im newer to KOF, and considering taking the game seriously so please forgive the newbness

nagase is really good at two things: ninon-style annoyance with teleport mixup and making the opponent fear her strings. both playstyles work because you can bait people into doing very stupid things by wisely using her teleport move that knocks down and is a low hit on wake to frustrate or use the one that hits as overhead, and punish most things with her bnb that ends in the teleport / izuna drop, after a while your opponent will be afraid to stick out normals for fear of getting hit with either pattern

i like this and XI equally, i think they’re both tournament worthy and both have equal flaws which have already been discussed but there is definitely room for tourney play

the punishers i fear the most in this game are probably ralf and kim, they really have the ability to make your life miserable should you make two mistakes because should you do so you’re in for a world of hurt

  1. Too much work, too little effect. She’s neat to watch, but takes considerable damage and her supers are pretty situation specific. Her plus is being able to end most attack strings with 689+P, which is a command grab.

  2. Yes. It’s availble to newer players and has (seemingly) some deeper level of play.

  3. No better or worse I suppose.

  4. Ralph, Kula with meter, Duke!, “Don’t stop meeeee!”

  5. Nothing to apologize for.

has anyone seen the TGS tournament vids man this one guy was owning with wild wolf terry, from what i seen the top tier list is:
Wild wolf,kula,billy,mai,maxima,seth,geese and B.jenet

man, this game is sex. <3

Guys I swear only one month or so and I am sooooooo in here…

Come on man, hurry up. x_X

I’m trying man I really am believe me…lol.

Question-Who would be up for a KOF2006 tourney at TS7 per se?? People are up for it no???

TS7 is in April BTW.

i thought TS7 was going to be on arcade cabinets.

PZ is hosting that portion, I believe.

Armor Ralf is indeed broken.

TS7 is on arcade cabs but I can talk to people about side tournaments…I dont believe everything at TS7 is gonna be Arcade cabs…I been talking to Kensou about stuff etc…

EDIT: When KOF MIA Comes out guys in 2007 for pS2 is someone just gonna make a new thread for it or are they gonna keep things going in this thread etc?

There should be a KOF MI Regulation A board out by then.
