KOF: MI2 / KOF 2006 - Strategy / Techniques / Combos

i’ve been wondering this too now, after some re-testing it may only work on certain characters (?) or may be a just-frame ( the frame right when he recovers from the ground hit maybe? )

i tend to just do the one Dokugami/Aragami chain that ends in the “Moero!” grab that launches, then DP or Orochinagi now…same BnB sans OTG from my previous post which does seem to work better near walls

Ah ok, because I haven’t been able to connect the DP+C at all. But I only tried it on a couple of characters. He just seems to recover way too slow.

I’m planning to go through all of quest survival to unlock some stages. Who would be the best character to use? I want to be able to blow through it as quickly as possible. I was thinking maybe Armor Ralf? If so, what’s a really good high damage combo that I can use to spam against the AI?

after some more matches today i have to say Mr Karate has one of the most overlooked BEST mixups in the game!!! potentially fatal up close!!!

basically your job as Mr Karate is mixup between three strings, i believe he has two that end in overheads, one of those combos and the other one is the slow one where he brings his hand overhead and bounces you for a pop up, and there’s the fact that you can do the unblockable ( down, down+C i think? probably wrong on that) out of those strings. mixing between these three is potentially mixup HELL for some characters who can’t run away easily ( anybody outside of teleporters i.e. Nagase, Ninon, Hanzo, etc. ) because they all end in massive damage; either he can SC off of a successful hit or if he has meter he can abuse super invincibility if you try and retaliate to his pressure game and super through your pokes or moves, then on top of that he has the UNBLOCKABLE SUPER if you try anything drastic…too insane!!! about the only thing safe to do is jump out, much like you were fighting Makoto in 3s; problem with that option is he has super fireball if he knows you’ll do it…craziness

Mr. Karate also can do good damage if he manages to land a sweep. Here’s the best sweep combo that I know of:

(Done with Quick Rise and Break Fall on)
d+D XX d+B, df+B XX db~f+D, f-b-f+A, qcf-b-f+C : 90 damage

If you don’t have the meter to waste…just cut off the special at the end (and use f-b-f+C).

And while we’re on the subject of Mr. Karate. Here’s a small, useless glitch that I posted about WAY earlier in the thread.

Hmm…found a little glitch (I guess it’s a glitch):

Ok…go into training; pick Mr. Karate; turn on Break Fall; then perform one of his attacks that knock the opponent across the screen (make sure that the opponent will end the Break Fall with his back against the wall), and cancel it into Mr. Karate’s qcf+A. Even though the fireball will go past the rolling opponent; the opponent will get hit (by the…wall?) for the same damage that the fireball does. Although, strangely, this has to be blocked as if it hit from the front.

To make sure that it isn’t the fireball hitting the opponent. You can try the same set-up mid-screen; where the fireball completely misses.

Anybody got any thoughts on why this happens?

Hey, I was wondering what sorts of bnbs you guys use for Fio. I mostly use df-A, C,C,C, qcf+C (or B) or C, d-B, d-B, qcf+B. The thing is, these only combo into the level 3 super, which kind of sucks when I havn’t got 3 meters. Are there any other techniques?

Also, could someone post up some bnbs for Alba? Thanks.

question about OTG’s

is it possible to knock your opponent down with a specific move that they cannot quick recover from, thus u have a 100% chance of landin an OTG?

You can OTG the opponent after any sweep or any stylish move that ends in a sweep-type hit.

do u mean only a sweep or a knockdown in a stylish move

All sweeps guarantee OTG hits. You can also OTG after certain stylish moves such as Kyo’s s.B,d/f+D or Terry’s f+B,d+B,d+D etc. This is because the last hits of these stylish moves end in an attack that has the same properties as a sweep. Hopefully that’s more clear.

Splash damage?

also Lien’s s.A,A,A,cr.D
it seems like it’s anything where the character’s fall animation is directly towards or directly away from the camera i.e. closed or open stance fall where they end up lying down vertically on the screen will guarantee free OTG

few weird things

that splash damage thing might not be too far off, it seems like some moves in the game have bigger hitboxes than they seem to? for instance, it’s difficult as hell to tech roll Ninon’s super fireball because the explodey animation for it has a football field long hitbox…same with Billy and Lilly spinny stick super ( and those vacuum )

Lilly’s DP might be crazier than Billy’s because she can PAUSE AND FLOAT IN THE AIR if she DP’s you to the corner and suspects you trying to break fall and get out of her traps and THEN fall on you, or just do it normally like Billy’s version, it can even cross up on the right circumstances

Mai’s got a good zoning game with A button version of Kachosen, try throwing one, letting someone jump past it, and hitting them with hyperhop j.B -> j.D, they fall INTO the Kachosen…then consider that you can hyperhop j.B -> j.D xx qcb+C or do insta-fly-across-the-world by hyperhopping and tapping for her butt dive ( D version ) the minute you leave the ground ( which is also cancellable on hit ) and you have really good air games

Fio’s got an even dirtier zoning game in the corner revolving around hyperhop CD xx grenades, sometimes light grenades will hit as overheads, and molotovs that hit the ground can set up low hits on wakeup, then consider that she can abuse invincibility frames on her John-Woo super ( where she pulls the uzis from behind, the animation where she does so has MASSIVE invincible properties ) and if she lands her launcher string, instantly do DP version of machine gun shot and then land Fio Fio Time as they fall if you have meter to do so

this game gets more insane every time i play it

another quick fio combo. This is my standard bnb

Cr.b,cr.b xx run grenade thing, link the lvl 3 kick super (fio fio time?) the timingis tight but it’s a really good combo if you get it.

So yeah, my question still stands, who’s the best character to use to breeze through quest survival? And what is the most reliable high damage combo I can spam against the AI?

Easily Armor Ralf. And I think the combo is C, C, C, DP+C. Although, I can’t remember if that’s right at all. Haven’t played this game in a few months actually. But if that’s a combo…then it’s the one you want to use.

you can also link cr. b, cr. b, cr. d xx run grenades which is a little better
problem is linking things after run grenades is very, very tech rollable if you use the crouching string
it seems to work better if you do st.D x3, run grenades, then super
standard bnb for fio if you’re trying to get fio fio time in a fancy way would be something like:
df+A,C,C xx qcbx2+D, run up and link st.Dx3, run grenades, reverse super when you recover
the weird thing about landing fio fio time seems to be the fact that when the animation for it stops you end up waaaay further away than you were, but you can land gunshots as they fall or antiair gunshot if you’re on a small stage ( like Esaka / NeoGeo Land / Grand Mosque )

my personal favorite is Kula, funny story
i was playing through quest today and i swear, the AI does not seem to realize that you’re supposed to tech roll her DP, i did that shit like twenty times in a match
therefore, i think she is the best character for quest survival
you can just DP through most of everything they do until higher levels where they’ll start sabaki-ing you, in which case if you have meter you can hit A+B to front step escape roll away from what they do and DP them again
my Kula BnB is:
hyperhop C, st. A,A,A,C (launch hit), qcb+D, f+B, freeze execution if you have meter or run up and DP if they dont tech, or hyperhop C crossup

A couple of notes on Kim…

His L1 super does more damage in the air (60 damage compared to 55 on the ground; 75 damage for his L2 super in the air)

Jump QCF+K can be done forever if blocked.

His L3 super (R1+R2) is guaranteed after QCF+P.

QCF+P into L3 super does 99/107 damage; you need to input the super before the last kick of QCF+P and without wall bouncing.

OTOH a combo like a,a,c > QCB+K,UF+K,D+K > QCF+P > L3 only gives about 60-70 damage…

If you must add a normal attack: b > QCF+P > L3 does comparable damage to the actual super.
Just a thought… I think QCF+P can pick up people off the ground… if so, free lvl3… gotta try it out tomorrow…might be useful after a sweep

qcb+k,uf+k,d+k and d,d+k,dp+k are good juggling moves to link to. if near a wall (w/ a high wall bounce), you can do a jumping qcf+p into L1/2 super. or if not near a wall you can just qcf+p into l1 super (after a wall bounce) or cancel the qcf+p into a ground L2 for a high wall bounce into j.qcf+k > L2 super

for mixups, hop+wp (hit going up) > qcf+k > lvl1 or lvl2 super (depending on closeness to the ground and/or distance to a wall)

or df+wk,wk(,sk) into a combo
or b+wk, d+wk, d+sk (sweep) into j.qcf+k into a super…etc

kim is a solid character. he’s better than chaelim at everything, literally. only downside is hearing watatatatatatah every two seconds, LITERALLY

The reason I say the cr. is my standard bnb, is because the rh times three is hella slow and your not just going to be randomly landing htat, though I do use it for pressure sometimes as you can cancel the second hit into air grenades.

As for your fancy combo

df+A,C,C xx qcbx2+D, this is actually a loop, just do it over and over again, until your out of meter, at least as far as I know.

I still like comboing into the tonfa super and then linking off it.

Oh and if you don’t have meter you can also link a standing rh after the running grenade as opposed to fio fio time, and on some characters you can land a jumping cd with the right timing.

I havent played much of quest survival but I agree with Kula. CPU always falls for the DP and wont learn to roll through qcf + K. After reading and thinkin that over perhaps I’ll stay up one night and tryn beat survival

Are there any tutorial vids for this game out yet or anything cause I feel like such a n00b!!! ARGH! I hate relyin on dumb shit to win like back-to-back Power Dunks, and dumb shit like that. Though I can also blame that on my friends where they abuse long range attacks, and I’m guessing this game is more close range centered like in 3S if I am not mistaken?

Yeah, I feel like such a scrub just abusing the same combos against the AI, but hey, it’s the AI. I think I’ll drop Chae Lim for Kim considering that he does more damage overall and can do practically everything better.
