Altough I feel like your post is more of a derailment from the topic, this guy got ripped on for a reason. He had trouble capiltalizing off of a knockdown. When playing FG’s at an advanced lvl the whole point is score a knockdown, because that gives you a massive advantage. Not being able to use this advantage is like missing one of the fundamentals namely pressuring the opponents. So when the OP said that he was “pretty good” Vulpes said “No, you aren’t ‘pretty good’.” because he clearly is lacking in one of the fundamentals of every rushdown character.

Imo Vulpes is right. If he cant even apply pressure he isnt “pretty good” and he should lvl up some more. How is that being a complete dick? If you’re that easily offended by someone that says that ‘you arent pretty good’ then you should grow a pair.

And people wonder why SRK has the reputation it has. Who cares about what he says beforehand, Just answer the question and move on, It’s sick how often this happens.

To answer the OP:

New players love the DP. When they are knocked down you have free reign to move wherever you like and set up various methods of engagement. Usually for a new player, they mash DP and pray for the best, To counter this you simply need to predict it. If he is a new players, Safe jump that shit, Then you have a free punish, and a Punish with Sakura can usually end up in high damage / Reset / Ultra ect. You just need to read it. If they keep mashing DP you just need to keep blocking until they learn, Heck, I wish more of my friends spammed DP, The reward from it is HUGE for you.

Just block.

I’m sure you could bring safe jumps and countless other setups into play, But this is basic shit bro. Learn it, Read your opponent, use your head and then beat them. I’m also sure you can beat DP’s without blocking, But I play Gouken, Demon Flips all day man. Character specifics would take too long

another edit: Do a few light punches whilst they are getting up. Around 2. Then stop, It’s possibly the most basic bait EVER for a DP on a new player. Do it.

The easiest way to handle spammed SRK’s on wakeup is, as mentioned, block and punish. If they do a SRK every time they get knocked down, move in, let them do it, block, and punish accordingly. Let them eat 400 - 600 damage for doing a wakeup SRK. If they keep doing it, keep feeding them damage. They’ll stop doing it eventually.

So many tools in the SSFIV community…wouldn’t kill some of you guys to reply decently first time round instead of dragging someone down

Like rcorporon said. Block and punish can work pretty well on people mashing DP. Once they catch to you doing it though they will probably start holding back on them. In which case you could try meaty on wakeup, cross ups, or throw. A part of SF really is part prediction. To an extent you can win against people by just reading out what they are going to do.

Motion for mod to remove all unhelpful responses please.

OP, besides block and punish, you should also investigate safe-jump tactics. ie. Moves that allow you to attack the opponent on wakeup while keeping you safe from punishment.

Here’s one that works against Ryu:

I’m pretty sure he also has a cross-up that beats reversal DPs, but you’ll have to research that for yourself. Try the Abel forums for more info.

When you’ve conditioned them to block, you can do empty jumps into Tornado Throw etc.

For Sakura, read this thread:

Note that with Abel you don’t even need to jump at them. You can use his roll to make it very hard for them to know when to try to DP you because Abel gets decent frame advantage off his knockdowns. Research Abel’s offensive okizeme options.
