Flight cancelling with Sentinel is officially useless and pointless. It no longer makes Cable waste meter, it no longer confuses or puts pressure on opponents, or anything else. It really doesn’t do much.

To give my little response to your statement, I think that it actually is sort of pointless against an aware opponent (especially when they’re using cable). You see, when in flight mode (and after you cancel out of flight), you can only do one action the whole time i.e. attack, block, whatever. This is because you are in normal jump mode. And also explains guard breaking :).
For example, sent is flying and throws out a frying pan at cable, he misses and cancels out of flight (wanting to go to the ground). The fucked up part is, the whole way down he can’t block anything. Cable can just easily AHVB him at any time. This is the reason that I think that it is somewhat pointless to carelessly fly and cancel. Just my two cents.
All this is, of coure, wiped out if you are in “unfly” mode (superjump mode). Which makes sent really deadly :p.
*note: you can read all this in an srk article, i am not saying that I found this out or anything like that.
