King of fighters 98 tiers?

this is totally like west coast vs. east coast only both of you are talking about places you’re not from.

He was predictable, he made the same errors as almost any other player that I play. How many times did he try to do one crouch B, then hop D? He tried this so many times and almost everytime he got air to aired by Oogosho.

Also, just because you don’t repeat the same string twice, doesn’t mean you are unpredictable. Sometimes, doing the same thing twice makes you more unpredictable and vice-versa.

Oogosho’s Ralf actually has more attack strings than Dakou’s Kyo but that’s not the point. Oogosho is just extremely confusing and he catches players napping and throws them. Never seen any other player confuse people that well with pokes and throws.

and Endless, you can’t really keep using the same player (Xiaohai) to represent all of China. Xiaohai is the best but doesn’t represent all of China.

great thread. been so long since i played this game competitively. although i never played this one quite as much as 97 or 95, i have to admit its pretty much the best kof ever. 00, 01, 02 and XI are also pretty nice games (the better kofs gameplay wise, like 95 & 97 too).

so i keep hearing about these tier lists of the japanese and the chiniese, where they @? the one on the first page wasn’t official? so far i havent seen any other tier lists on this page.

p.s. they finally fix yamazakis anitiair dm (invincibility and guaranteed second hit, 99% of the time that is) but fuck up his dp+K moves. damn. also, kinda rare to see yama at tournaments while hes actually pretty solid. the good old days of owning people in arcades with yama (especially 97) where good, back in 97 & 98 not a lot of people seemed to use yama. though that changed drastically since 02.

I got a question about something that happend in a ggpo match. It was the final round and my opponent had more health then my character when his Athena jumped up and float off the screen. Does Athena have a glitch where she can do this?

Did he wall jump over the top of the screen into crystal bit? THat’s a good way to waste the clock if it’s the last seconds and Athena has more health.

Does anyone know what’s happening with the SRK wiki images? I want to start uploading hitbox data for this game but for some reason all the images seem to be off.

Do throws have priority? It seems that Clark (or Goro) almost always throws me first.
Is there a list on the web where each move priorities over others are listed? How should I know if my anti-air has higher priority than my opponents overhead?

How do you know that the string of strikes you have performed is actually a combo (do combo hits are always listed on the screen)? I’ve been trying to master
Ralf’s cr.C xx Ground ‘n’ Pound (qcb,hcf+K) (sets up for a Galactica Phantom (qcf,qcf+P)) (from wiki), but it seems that after cr.C I’m pushed too far away therefore nothing connects. I’ve also tried others like cl.B/cr.A/cr.B, Super Argentine Backbreaker (hcf+K), but after cl.B cr.A is blocked. I’ve always thought that if combo connects it can’t be blocked. Somehow I managed to do Super Vulcan Punch after cr.C (still need more practice here). As well, I think it’s possible to do Ground ‘n’ Pound after successful Ralf’s kick (at proper distance you can make additional poke or Vulcano Punch in corner, so I think maybe that running grab could be possible). Any suggestions here.

Another tips playing against defensive Yashiro and Goro. Former waits for my jumps, rolls and cr.D punishes me, latter just grabs my pokes and jumps.

Can someone explain more about those Iori, Kyo glitches, reversals, etc. How do you know that these are bugs and not some sort of game features?

BTW, almost forgot, I am keyboard player and I found some funky shortcuts, but I can’t perform double hcb/hcf in a row (still I can execute hcb + hcf without problems).

First of all, the faster command grabs in the game are 1f (instant), so as long as there is an opening at least 1 frame, it can connect (even as a reversal). These throws include:

Ralf/Clark’s hcf+K and Clark’s hcbx2+P
Daimon’s hcb,f+P and hcbx2+P
Vice’s hcb,f+P and hcbx2+K
O.Yashiro’s hcb,f+P and hcbx2+P
Shermie’s hcf+P and hcbx2+P
Mary’s hcb,f+P and hcbx2+K

Some throws are slower but have invincible startup. These throws include:

Clark’s dp+K
Daimon’s dp+K
Vice’s hcf+P
O.Yashiro’s hcf+P
Shermie’s hcfx2+P
Chris’s dp+P
Iori’s hcb,f+P

Ralf cr.C into ground pound only connects close.

The cl.B/cr.A/cr.B, Super Argentine Backbreaker (hcf+K) combo means close B OR crouching A OR crouching B. So this is just a single hit, then the backbreaker (linked, not canceled). Really cr.B is the only one you need, the others are just mentioned for completeness.

Close B into cr.A xx backbreaker can connect if the close B is meaty.

About playing against Yashiro and Daimon, it sounds like you just need to play more. Don’t jump/roll in and be patient. Those are both strong characters so it will not be easy. It would also help to know what other characters you use aside from Ralf.

As for the glitches, which ones are you referring to specifically? Kyo doesn’t possess any glitches that I’m aware of.

Ok, you have to be close for the qcb hcf+K to connect. I wouldn’t advise doing galactica phantom, that’s only going to hit noobs. With Ralf, you can’t combo crouch B into crouch A. But you can do crouch B into hcf+K. This DOES combo, but the combo meter doesn’t increase and it combos as a link (meaning you don’t cancel the crouch B).

Ugh, they could be diong a lot worse than sweeping or air grabbing you. Never heard of Yashiro’s rolling and then sweeping to counter jumps.

Which reversals?? He has some glitchy crossups when the opponent’s back is turned (and sometimes they occur even if the opponent’s back is not turned).

So linked hits are not counted as combos., only cancelable attacks are. Am I right? I always thought that if the number of hits is not showing up, then the move is not a combo.

No. Things can increase the combo counter and be links. Generally throws do not increase the combo counters. Some glitches, such as Daimon’s dp+A after hcb f+P(which is very hard to land) does not increase the counter but combos.

Lots of experience…I actually didn’t read anywhere, I just learned this from playing and watching videos. The Daimon glitch combos from hcb f+P however, you’d want to read about…there’s lots of info on www.cyberfanatix.com.

i wish they didn’t fuck up yamazakis command throw. it was tha shit in 97, its pure shit in 98. fuck. from the way its done as a command and the way it reacts depending on the distance of the opponent. O.K. and they even fucked up the dp+K move since it can no longer start after a light hit. not just that, they even managed to fuck up the move even after it hits cause it pushes you further away now, (infinites are far harder now, which is good actually).

only thing they did make better is his anti air super. the guillotine. it actually got some invincibility now, what any decent anti air super should have IMO.

I actually found this quite disappointing…is it supposed to be that slow or are they slowing it down in the demo to make it look “cooler”.

I was wondering that myself, actually. I’m reserving judgment on it, but just from the vids, it’s about 75% to 50% the speed KOF normally is. But there did seem to be some flashes of speed there, so I’m not totally sure. Hopefully more will be revealed in that respect over the next couple days.
