King of Fighter 12 is really that good!

Why are you including cvs in your discussion? That’s NOT kof.

“mai is NEVER left out of a kof game”

Guess what? She’s left out of KOFXII. Get over it!

Only wanks and Japanophiles really give a shit that Mai isn’t in the game and keep harping about it as one of their big “disappointments.” Real KoF kats play the game no matter who gets cut out, because they’re in it for the gameplay. Tossers.

Mai wasn’t in the arcade version of KOFXI in case anyone forgot, she was only added as a console exclusive character, and even then she was simply ripped straight from NGBC

Mai isn’t the chun for KOF though, Athena has always been the KOF posterboy for the gals.

How is alex actually getting POSITIVE rep for constantly posting stupid, fanboy stuff that 95% of the people in here disagree with? We get it alex, Mai is not in, you’re mad, but damn it’s getting to be a little much

In response to the OP, 12 truly is a very fun game and the new systems are quite interesting. Its a great start to the next generation of KOF, in terms of gameplay mechanics.

And then following tradition, 13 will toss all of that out and reintroduce strikers :stuck_out_tongue: But the netplay will be ggpo and Mai will be in it.

THE IRONY IT BURNS

"Great job on the Kof I’m happy with this game."

yeah watch KOF13 be insanely broken but have Mai, great online play, story mode, multiple boss characters, etc

then some of us will look back and think “man KOF12 was a really great game for competitive play, it was the least broken KOF game ever but people were too busy crying about Mai and online play to care”

There are plenty of characters that play like Mai, so go play them.

Oh wait, they don’t have tits?

D:

im sure most bicthes would be happy to see a kof without FF characters, without AOF characters, without kyo and iori. instead with ash, duo, momoko, hinako, seth, ramon, malin, chang, choi and 20 random loli bitches. that way we would have no bitchin bout the good characters, since good characters dont make a good game. gtfo.

That or KoF XIII will be insanely balanced, with Mai, great online play, story mode, multiple boss characters, etc

then some of us will look back and think “man KOF12 was a really great game for competitive play, it was the one of the least broken KOF game ever but people were too busy crying about Mai and online play to care … still KoF XIII rocks even more !!!”

Unless you have a crystal ball, and some special powers to use it efficiently, better not bash future KoFs … yet ^^

Fuck yeah Momoko, Hinako, Ramon, Malin and Chang!

I was about to mention that 2002 is the only good KoF game after the Development team switch.

But who am I kidding 2003 and XI were good too.

I’m just trying to make a point for people to look at the good stuff we got right now because the future is always full of uncertainty.

Mature is cool as hell, and makes up for the lack of Mai as far as I’m concerned. Mai and K’ are heavily rumored to appear as DLC, so…yeah that’s pretty much the end of that arguement.

My take on the game, with comparisons to SF4 since that’s the game of the moment:

The game is sex. Especially local VS matches. The counters and critical combo system easily trump focus attacks and ultra’s. My main thing is the speed and pace of the gameplay. SF4 is fucking slow as hell in comparison, and so noob friendly it’s ridiculous. Input timing for example is definitely more strict in this game.

I played SF4 online just last night with a pal who never really practices and he could mash through all kinds of shit no problem. Focus attacks are the most useless counter system ever invented since they get broken so easily, and once you’re backed into the corner you’re fucked. Not the case in KOFXII. The system is way more balanced in terms of rewards for defensive/offensive play.

The sprites are beautiful. If you’ve ever been interested in animation/graphic arts then you undoubtedly agree. The backgrounds obviously had plenty of attention paid to them. Oh, and hey look some characters got updates to their clothes! Another simple thing capcom failed at. I mean you can stay classic and still add a little more flair to 20+ year old designs for fucks sake.

Back to the system…the movelists are small, but surprisingly effective especially in the CC combos. There’s not really anyone that’s super fucked over in this game as far as I can tell. I play as mature, and though she has only two moves (alot of people do) she can definitely hold her own. Nobody stands out as much as Fuerte and Vega in terms of tiers as of yet, and it doesn’t really look like it will ever be that way. The system is “simple” but fluid, rewarding and best of all exciting.

Honestly though it’s not as simple as it looks, with DC cancels into any special, guardbreaks, universal counter moves, rolls (which can be grabbed), and cool-ass clashes for equal-powered moves (not ***-ass unpredictable trades). I love charging a DC, then cancelling it into Ralf’s hammer punch or into an AA ground explosion- its like a universal mindgame for all characters. The hits are hard and energetic. The juggling is well done, and is gravity-defying in a CC combo, for example after a launch move Ralf can jumping elbow(up+C) a character and they won’t fall down, they’ll actually move up a bit, which sounds ridiculous at first but allows for more creative follow-ups into other combo’s and supers. It’s unlikely in matches you’ll see people using the same finisher combo. I’m sure everyone will know the most powerful combo for their character for mid-match CC combo’s, but for the finishing combo it’s all about showing off your individual style.

The online setup is really interesting, and I’m especially excited for clan play once the online is running smoothly ::crosses fingers:: Being able to save EVERY match is a no brainer that every fighting game should have by now, so that’s cool to have for both online and local vs matches.

So the gameplay is fantastic, I think we can all honestly agree on that. I don’t mean to bash SF4, cuz I totally dig it, but the speed and mashability are just a little too much to handle sometimes.

Negatives:
-Unforgiveable lag that needs to fixed ASAP
-Eliz/Raiden glitch, also unforgiveable
-Not enough basic single player elements like survival
-$60 is still fucking ridiculous for ANY fighting game…except maybe Tekken 6…
-No taunts, no intros, some weak win animations (where’d Terry’s hat go?)
-Can’t exit to main menu easily, have to wait until a match starts to exit, should be really easy to program start+select+all 4 shoulder buttons to go back to the main menu. Like if I get an invite to play when I just started arcade I have to choose my characters, the order and then wait for the match to start just to exit to the main menu. Minor gripe, but still easy programming.
-Can’t kick people out of rooms
-Can’t spectate matches when in a lobby? (I couldn’t earlier anyways, don’t think I missed anything, I heard from a pal you can watch player but not ranked?)
-No recording/playback for training, no 2P control for training

Some of this stuff is really basic and makes me wonder either how long they tested the game or who/how many people they had testing it. I heard the Eliz/Raiden glitch was post-patch and I’m sure they did it in a rush to help out before the game was , but you would think testing out each characters supers on all characters would be near the top of the list since it’s so easy to test, this would literally take less than an hour in practice mode for one person to test. The negatives I listed above are basically what testers should/would have written down.

In other news, people need to shut up about GGPO for these console games. It’s not going to happen, so get over it. If it does, then I’ll eat my words and be happy for it, but there’s zero reason to expect any of these fighting games to have that netcode for consoles. Just hope that SNKP can pull their heads out of their ass and create a solid netcode for the states. I can play nearly lag-free with my pal that lives 45 min.s away, but otherwise it’s unplayable.

So in summary, the game is fantastic for hardcore fight fans, but it’s severely lacking for the casual scene, especially with the netplay as it is right now. With a store link right on the main menu, I’m assuming they’re planning to release a bunch of updates via DLC, even though right now it just seems like a link to wallpapers and themes. We shall see. If you’re borderline on buying the game, then I suggest waiting until it goes down in price, stick with HDR and SF4 until Tekken 6 comes out if nothing significant happens with the online for KOF. If you’ve got at least one pal that likes fighting games then it’s definitely worth a buy especially if it goes down in price before T6 drops.

Wall…of…text.:wgrin:

you can spectate all online matches, you just have to wait for the next match to start before you enter.

Hmm you just missed the option there pal, I used it for like 2 hours today.

I dunno, I think that I am fine with how KOF12 is now after having it for about a month. There have been titles that have been a lot worse off as far as content goes. The only thing that I’m hoping for now is a sequel within the next year or so.

what characters play like mai please explain yourself,
