I think you don’t get it. If Mai was excluded from a Fatal Fury game, you’d be absolutely right. Mai’s the Chun-Li of Fatal Fury. She’s essential in Fatal Fury. King of Fighters is not Fatal Fury. It’s a crossover of mutiple games. They don’t need to take every Fatal Fury character. Athena is the Chun-Li of KOF in my opinion.
I just don’t think you’re seperating King of Fighters from Fatal Fury. King of Fighters is meant to represent the entire SNK universe. Fatal Fury is just one small section of that universe. Mai’s an essential Fatal Fury character. No one is arguing that. She’s not an essential KOF character. I like her. I wouldn’t mind if she was in the game, but it makes sense that she’s not.
Fatal Fury is well represented in the game already. The Psycho Soldier team is well represented. I think Yuri or Kings addition would help round out the Art of Fighting representation. You got the three essential Ikari warriors. Kyo and co rep the KOF original team. Mai’s addition wouldn’t really add anything to the game. I’m not saying she’s a bad character. She’s great. I’m saying she’s not really needed here.

I totally agree, Athena is the token Female of KoF, Chun-Li is the Token female of Street fighter.

BTW, FF is the reason KOF got made, FF was much more popular then the other games that made up KOF94. The KOF97 fan poll that put Yama/Mary/Billy in the game, Duck and I think Big Bear were 4th/5th. Duck was defniitely 4th. Geese would have been top 3 probably, but no one thought Geese wasn’t going to be back in 97.

Yes I know FF is real popular, and KOF wouldn’t exist without it. The fact of the matter remains the KOF is not FF. Despite popularity, the original intent of the series was a crossover game. Not just a FF rehash.
Ive been following the threads on KOF12 since I found out about the lack of content from a hands-on report of the game. Before that I was really looking forward to the title and pre-ordered it accordingly, but the lack of content and the reports from SRK about the bad net code made me cancel my pre-order. I just couldnt justify paying $60 for what people were reporting on, but that didnt deter my want for the game.
Theres been a ton of back and forth about this game, with a lot of good points made on why the game is made of win and/or fail. The issues have been pointed out over the last two weeks and are widely known nowI just dont understand why the negative is constantly brought back up. I can see if they released another patch and it did nothing. But this is like a broken Michael Bolton record. Maybe is the argue to get through the day syndrome Ive seen on other boards. If so, oh well.
The game has major flaws, but people are still enjoying it. If you dont like it, play a fighter that you do. This has been a great year for the genre, as Ive enjoyed both SF4 and BB. I just purchased KOF12 from a disgruntled owner from ebay, and Im really looking forward to its arrival, regardless of its issues.

You know, despite EVERYTHING, I’m really impressed with Ignition.
I feel that everything they’ve done has been very well timed, and all in the player’s best interest. They have acted extremely professionally, and really shown that they are a great rep for KoF in the States.
I think we should give some props to these guys, it definitely wasn’t their fault about the netcode, or any other complaints that people have.
yeah Ignition is cool as crap, they even listed to the fans about what cover art to use for the game and stuff

Well in my and many other peoples opinion athena equals sakura. Mai equals chun-li, i understand this is not fatal fury…however since the very first kof game mais has been included so i dont really get why you feel to discredit that fact. Also mai rivals chun-li in cvs not athena. mai was in cv1 athena wasnt. In fact although there not concerte examples b/c i have always seen athena pop diva loved by japanesse ass, but its enough to say that she would equalivent to sakura. while mai would equate to chun-li mai, mai has been in more titles then athena as well. she(athena) wasnt in cvs1 and no one bitched.
No japan would get angry, japan and the rest of the kof world would be mad about mai. athena as i said before, is sakura would be equal to athena in kof series. sakura s hardly ever left out just as athena, mai is NEVER left out of a kof game and capcom vs cross match.
lol i posted bout this so many times this makes alot of sense…its a new generation only terry belongs in the game. kof12 is not a new generation mai should have been here like shes always has been. Every one whos touched a kof game knows who mai is. every one whos touched a kof will probabdly over look elizabeth and mature very easly and not even realized they existed over more interesting characters like king.With 22 characters in kof12 is the only reason they are even truely known but if kof13 come and there out no one will bitch about them not being included let it be mai, u will hear about it all over the place like u have now. Every review on kof12 also mentioned her not being there, even fan service reviews.

honestly, i was and still am, megahyped that Mature made it in. I was hoping in the back of my head that Iori only beat the shit out of them in 96 rather than killing them, boy am I glad I was right.

I love them but it seems like they’re not great at damage control when it comes to breaking bad news… First there was that stuff about NAT settings that made people pissed at SNK, then it turned out SNK never actually said that. And now there’s this stuff about Golden Week holding back the patch even though that’s a holiday in late April/early May
But this is all stuff that was posted on their Facebook, and they probably got mixed up in their hurry to keep people as up-to-date as they could. That’s admirable enough in itself
The ironic thing was Mai wasn’t even meant to be in the original KOF. She was thrown in as a replacement character. Also the fact that she was Chun’s rival in CvS makes no difefrence. This isn’t CvS. It’s KOF. KOF already has plenty of FF reps. They don’t need another. Also I fail to see how Athena=Sakura…since Athena’s been in more games for longer. Also you mentioned Japan…and I’m pretty sure Athena is pretty popular there as well.
Anyway, I’m getting nowhere with these arguments. So I’m gonna stop. Alex you love Mai. It’s all good. Sorry she’s not in the game, but that shouldn’t be a strike against it. The fighting engine is pretty bad ass. There are plenty of great characters and movesets. It’s barebones, but the most important element is there.
