Only footage you would find is CAM footage since that unreliable Bifuteki stream screwed up again at another major. This time… they had NO KI pool footage on stream in 8 hours… All they chose to stream was TTT, Soul Calibu 5 and DOA cause everyone wanted that, right?..
Then at 9pm they go “whoops… sorry guys… we finally looked at the KI brackets after 8 hours and they’re done… huh huh… oh well”…
Great way to support a new game at its first major.
classic fighting game community move. its weird that we STILL do shit like this. we didnt learn from the early sf4 years, where streams had zero balance to them whatsoever, and it was just 8 hours or more of sf4, disregarding all the other hype shit still happening in other games. i tuned in early to bifuteki and was like okay we got some KI casuals, so i expect to see it on the stream at some point. check the schedule on the front page, it makes NO fucking sense at all when it comes to who is streaming what on saturday, unless i read it wrong.
but to be honest, tekken is my baby to protect for eternity, but unless there is foreign competition, dont put that shit on screen outside of something like killer instinct. are you smoking rocks. sc5, word, but no KI between either doa or ttt2 is nonsense. id like to hear an explanation for that, because there has to be one i hope.
Top 8 tomorrow. So far I know F.Champ (Glacius), Duncan (Thunder from Seattle), RicoSuave (Thunder), Floe (Sadira), J.Wong (Sabrewulf), myself (Glacius), Godspeed (Glacius and Sadira), Riyo/XplicitMind (Glacius). Basically lots of Glacius, some Sadira and mor Thunder than I expected.
I believe F.Champ, J.Wong and Floe are in winners.
Top ranked Sadira Draman Kuritani almost got out but lost to Rico I think. He had a killer pool though and people said the matches were really hype.
Good stuff @Deviljin01. Glad to see there were hype over it. I had some friends come over and play today and they really like it as well. Hopefully tomorrow’s stream will show the greatness of it.
This is how the sfxt community feels at most majors. As up and down and player dependent in terms of hype levels sfxt can be, you never know what could be going on. But I keep forgetting sfxt can never be hype…maybe KI & sfxt community should buddy up :)…or not…
About a week ago I ran a theory matchup chart as part of my analysis. While far from perfect, it came up with Jago, Sabre, and Thunder tied for best overall matchups.
Thunder up that high surprised me… and it was my own chart.
I’m not surprised at all Thunder is placing well this early, He’s a grappler with more tools than he even needs.
I’ve been telling everyone that Thunder will be sick from day one, he reminds me of a better Alex. Once I get my own Xbone and a fucking stick I’ll be able to actually play at tourneys and memorize tech .
As time goes on I expect to see more Sabre, and Sadira and less Glacius. He’ll still be very competitive but peeps will start learning her mixups and like her options so she’ll gain more fans with time I think. Sabre will because he’s great and easy lol, Wolverine 2.0.
I’m a Thunder / Glacius fan so I’m fucking psyched at how popular he is. Hopefully Devil, Champ or one of the Thunder’s win.
As long as Sabre’s normals are still the best, his dash is still the best, and his mixup is unreactable… He will be very good.
Oh yeah, and EX Eclipse is spectacular.
Someone (discussing Tager vs Potemkin) once said that, a pure grappling character is just a glorified gimmick, as he ultimately becomes a dice rolling character. The best grappling characters are ones that aren’t defined by their command grab, they are good characters first, and a grab second. Thunder is one of those characters, he can win without his grab mixup… and in fact, his grab mixup isn’t really that good.
The grab doesn’t have to be used, but the threat of it is what makes you get hit by the strikes. No grappler will work well if you take away the grab option.
Exactly! For example, part of what makes good Zangief players so scary is that they’ll hit you with something that isn’t the grab, get you scared and then you when you’re down-backing, you eat a SPD.
Command grabs are their own mind game, without that, you just have (generally) a bigger and slower character with more health who hits harder kind of.
