Killer Instinct XB1: Season 2 hits October 15th. 20 dollars for Combo, 40 dollars for Ultra

I don’t think it’s “obvious” as long as Thunder doesn’t have Instinct. While Thunder’s Instinct is good, it doesn’t really change how good some of Thunder’s normals are. As a Glacius main (for now), I’ve stopped playing ranked (due to constant DC’ers) and switched to long sets. Some of those long sets have been against very strong Thunder mains. On the surface, it’s easy to say it’s a winning match for Glacius cause of his keep out tactics, but that’s really just day/week one stuff. It’s really not that hard for Thunder to get in without Instinct, and once he’s in, it’s very very bad for Glacius.

It’s somewhat akin to Gief trying to get in for days, but once he’s in, the game is completely in his favor. What helps Thunder (and other characters) even more is the fact that you can dash before the round starts, and between rounds. Glacius cannot. He basically starts the match next to you, assuming you want to be next to him. Thus is a huge, yet under appreciated factor.

Thunder’s real power comes when people start using his normals to stuff Glacius’ limbs and understands the ranges of each Shatter.

Of course, I’m not saying this isn’t a tough fight in either direction, I’m just saying it’s not as simple as just “no Instinct for Thunder, Glacius’ favor”.

You are right, Sammamish is NOT a good reversal for some things. You can walk up and c.MP (with Glacius) if you think he’s going to wakeup DP. Stuffs it clean. Buffer that into QCB+LK and get a combo if he tries to wakeup DP (but… get EX COEarthed if he blocks, lol).

You can also c.MP in between a blocked Triplax, then DP.

Which means it’s just as easy to bait a Counter Breaker.

100% agree with this. Thunder with 1 bar is a totally different character than Thunder with 0 bars.

I went through a phase of thinking this. As one does, I fought countless Jagos online and ended up with a pretty solid 95% win rate against him. However, then I started fighting real Jagos and the win rate went down. However, I still beat Jagos about 80% or so. I had to change how I was playing Glacius, mostly because at higher ranks (and in long sets against strong players), people don’t play “me too” Jago, they play solid strong Jagos.

Here are a few tips.

Dealing with Wind Kick:

When blocking a WK (usually HK from far), Glacius has a few options. HP to pin enemy down. Instant Neutral Jump MK to overhead AND hit backdash. Neutral Empty Jump. And of course, Block.

HP works when the player just stands there blocking or tries to jump away. You can buffer it into QCF+LP/MP and it keeps them on the ground and starts a combo if they were not blocking. Of course, look out for the DP… and Jagos backdash avoids it. You can also cancel into QCB+LK.

Instant Neutral Jump MK is good to get a bit of damage on Jagos that just block immediately, and it also hits them if they backdash.

Empty Neutral Jump is a really good option against the instant DP that follows the HK WK. The DP will whiff and Glacius can falling HK into full combo (or at least combo mixups).

Dealing with In Close Pressure:

Most players (regardless of the character), tend to pushback with c.LPs or c.LKs. Jagos also use c.MK from a distance. The thing is, QCF+LP beats all of these. This is a habit, and it’s been ingrained in the heads of players for years across other fighting games (c.P or c.1 in VF/Tekken, c.LP in SF, etc). Now, that isn’t going to last that long for people that continue to play KI, but if you watch your opponent and notice a lot of c.moves up close, don’t be afraid to use puddle punch.

That being said, QCF+P’s are easily punished by neutral jumps, so watch the habits of your opponents.

Not really, the hits happen so fast you aren’t going to shadow Counter on reaction, so that would be a blind guess on their part. And when people use a EX move, doing a shadow counter is riskier than usual, because they used meter, and the main point of that meter was the additional damage.

Not saying it isn’t possible, but unless you just been braking a ton of cold should and all at the same spot, its not likely.

Regarding Thunder vs Glacius. Even beyond super meter, life and instinct. If you are patient and pick you moments to try stuff (you will get hit) then you can get one instinct per round. In addition, unlike other fighting games, you can move at round start. So Glacius doesn’t need to just keep thunder (or anyone) out, he needs to get them out THEN keep them out… twice.

Yeah I haven’t really played a Thunder that really maximizes his tools yet. I’ve been telling people he has things, but at least initially felt the slow walk speed would hurt him. Ill have to play some other Thunders.

What’s your take on Sabre vs. Glacius?

I still think its 6-4 glacius, but I don’t play either side of the matchup.

Sabre lacks certain tools that really help that matchup such as a crossup, and his his natural high risk tools are more unsafe vs galcius as you take damage and get pushed out.

There’s no way its worse than 6-4 though, Sabre still has the best normals in the game, and a crazy good dash. He will get in at some point. So it might be a bit better for him than I theorize.

Im not sure where to ask this, but is this game worth the hype? and some more?

I just dont want to fall into the hype like skullgirls(great game! just nothing ground breaking/super innovative) catagory…both current consoles ps4/xbONE just seem too heavy of a investment atm

If the consoles are too heavy an investment for you then it shouldn’t matter how good the games are at the moment. Wait until a point where getting a console is no longer as burdening an investment.

At that point, then you can ask the question again because things regarding the game could change.

My point was; if you think EX Cold Shoulder is easy to break, then it means it’s just as easy to use it as a bait for a Counter Breaker (not Shadow Counter). I’ve started doing double Shadow moves with the second one outside of a lockout specifically meant to bait the Counter Breaker (with multiple characters, not just Glacius). Works very well, especially for the easy-to-break ones.

So if I’m correct the Day One 12-Month Xbox Live Gold Membership gives me only Shadow Jago and the “F2P” demo of KI (Jago only)
(The latter which everyone can basicly download from the Live Store)

Reason I’m asking this because I may be getting a German XBone drop-off

You are correct, just Shadow Jago and the free demo (jago).

Ok, thanks

GGs @onyx You had so many freaking setups with Glacius. I need to stop fucking up my breakers (that killed me). That EX Shatter is really powerful, something I never had to take in consideration. I gotta get my damn inputs right so I can command grab more. Also need to start breaking linkers, from what I’ve seen everywhere most people are looking to break the auto-doubles. You broke my heavy linkers a couple times and it made me realize it. I definitely need to level up my Thunder though.

The secret is meter management.

You are going to take damage, so try to take damage that doesn’t give him combos. That will build your instinct better, you should have one instinct per round. Also, you can footsie with Headbut and EX Triplax.

Also, hump his face at the beginning of the round, but stay just outside throw range, your normals are better at this range, and you put Glacius on the defensive at the start.

GG’s man! Ya thunder is a tough one. i put a good hour into him the other day and realized its hard to play him “KI style” I felt like i was just trying to get hits that lead into combos like i would with anyone else until i realized i should be using back throw and command much much more, ankle cutter is good for mixing it once people are conditioned for throws too.

That Sadira though, madness lol shes too crazy.

@tsumani-EX Its worth the hype. The game has a much better backing than Skullgirls did. Dudes were getting mad hype over a super close match between F.Champ and OMGitzAndre where both players were combo breaking and counter breaking the hell out of each other with near no health. Of course OMG screwed up the ultra and got counter broken and lost. He definitely understood the game better than Champ, but caught some bad breaks.

Oh and I made top 8 in KI. Losers. Lost to CDjr but beat another Sadira from Vegas who was a hitbox stick user. Hiis name was Josh and he beat the Sabrewulf player that beat Tom Brady.

Tom Brady also showed that anyone who has an overhead normal can do an unblockable with instinct. Its going to get patched out in a couple weeks, but its there to use now.

Good shit man!

Nice man, you play KI again tomorrow? What seems to be the general consensus from the crowd there? Does the game seem like it will be successful in the community? Any more people interested in purchasing an X1 to play?

Anyone have video from the NEC matches?

Do you know who is in top 8 tomorrow? And what time it should start?
