Killer Instinct XB1: Season 2 hits October 15th. 20 dollars for Combo, 40 dollars for Ultra

So… It looks like if you get XBL for the new console, you get Killer Instinct free.

Alot of people are going to be playing this game… which is good.

Makes me wonder what the point of the one character demo version is though… if you are basically giving the whole first season as a pack in game.

Where did you put this together from? Does that mean even people who already have Xbox Live get KI for free or is this only for new accounts?

Otherwise that essentially makes the game Free to Play as long as you have an XBL account. Which would make Ken Lobb’s assertion that the game isn’t free to play rather ironic.

The only other thing I can assume is that they’re doing this to set up the paid DLC for the other seasons to get people to see what KI is about free of charge. Then make money off the other characters later. Which they would have to do that pretty perfectly to not have people complain.

Story showed, up on eventhubs and a few other places.

A purchase of 12 months of gold will come with Round one (which is what DH has been calling the full game) and shadow jago (which I think is just a skin).

So yeah, renew your XBL, get KI.

But yeah I agree, the story seems to contradict other stuff, but it came from Microsoft, so its a real thing.

Reminds of the early SF4 days, tons of players online. Nowadays, the Flowchart Ken on XBL is an old joke since everyone who has kept playing SF4 until AE2012 more or less knows what they are doing.

Yeah I’m still doing like the 8 dollars a month thing for Xbox Live, so depending on my money situation I might just do that, save money and get my free Killer Instinct. I would imagine they’re still planning to make money off the people who

It’s just…really weird from what they were originally saying. I think I’ll have to wait and see what the price is for Round One and then decide what I want to do from there.

I miss supreme victories:(

Ok so after reading the article it makes a lot more sense. They’re basically just giving the Round One for free to anyone who purchases their 60 dollar yearly account. So they’re basically giving you the game for free as long as you specifically sign up for another year of Xbox Live. It’s not just anyone who currently has an XBL account.

So anyone who doesn’t want to buy another year of Xbox Live and wants to stick with whatever they are already doing, will buy the game as normal. Which makes sense since that’s the only way they’re going to make any real money off the game. There’s a ton of people who already have Xbox Live and they may or may not want to renew to get round one for free depending on their situation.

It’s not quite as simple as “you have Xbox Live, so you get KI free”. They will bring a lot of people in with the prospect of getting all of Round One free of charge. It looks like the whole “seasonal fighting game” thing is true where you basically get the characters in packages and pay for the packages. Hopefully this works in a method where it doesn’t seem pricey or they allow you to pay one price and just get all of the DLC for free after.

I respect how MS is using KI as a test of various meta-game profit models. I personally can’t wait to see the result and how other big players react.

On another note, Shadow Jago sounds really badass.

Where are you guys getting this info about needing 1yr of XBL to get KI?

From what I’ve heard Kenn Lobb and the devs say, the KI “demo” is free, and and the “demo” gives the whole game to you except only Jago is playable. If you want to play online then you must have Xbox Live Gold as it currently is with the 360. But you can play the whole single player game as Jago, do training as Jago, etc, for free with this “demo”. Is there some new info that contradicts this or something?

And Devil Jin wtf at paying $8/mo for xbl? That is insane I haven’t paid more than $35/yr for XBL in like the past 7 or so years. You can find it for $35/yr pretty much monthly at various places.

From Microsoft themselves.

Well I haven’t really bought a 60 dollar video game in the last like 3 years so it doesn’t really hurt my wallet too much. I may actually want to buy games again seeing how innovative the Xbox One sounds so I’ll look into some stuff once the One rolls around.

You don’t need to buy the Microsoft offered year of Xbox Live in order to get KI. It’s just an option and if you go for that option, they supposedly give you all of the characters and a special “Shadow Jago” character free of charge. Whatever the fuck Shadow Jago is.

:Long story short, they’re just giving you a shit ton of ways to play this game whether you pay for it or not. They’re definitely trying to show off the whole “you buy an Xbox One, you get Killer Instinct” thing. They want this to be in every Xbox owner’s hands like Halo 1 was back when. If you had an Xbox 180 and didn’t have Halo, someone probably stole your copy.

Its really great that you have literally three different ways to buy this game:

  1. Digital Download with Demo

  2. Buy a disk

  3. Get the game free with purchase of XBL

@DevilJin01, is right. Microsoft is really pushing this, I haven’t seen so much of a marketing blitz since SF4 or TTT2. They want everyone to buy a copy of this game or at least have played it in someway shape or form.

There is no disc version of Killer Instinct coming out it is digital only. I asked the devs when they were doing a stream once and the devs were responding in the chat and they answered me when I asked about a disc version. Their exact words were “exclusive downloadable game only”.

Where is this information about getting KI for free with a 1yr purchase? I had heard only that if you got the “day one XBL” whatever that means, that you will get the Shadow Jago only. I hadn’t heard anything about getting the full game with the purchase of it.

Yeah people still get confused about the way the game is being distributed. This game was obviously set up to tie in with Xbox One’s old scheme to show that digitally downloaded games are the future of gaming on consoles. To show that you don’t just get old games and indie games via download, but it’s the way you’ll be able to get a lot of newly released big titles. There isn’t going to be a disc game since it was built with the whole “Xbox One lets you forget the disc” scheme they were using.

Which that should also cut down on the general price of owning everything the game will offer you in comparison to a disc release. Hopefully. If purchasing all of the seasons costs less than a 60 dollar new game, they are in the money for sure.

Ah okay I hadn’t seen that. So yeah we don’t know what “Round One” means. For all we know, that could be the free game that includes Jago as the only playable character.

I wonder if this card comes with every system or you have to buy it separately?

@purbeast, I doubt it. Round One definitely sounds like something episodic where they release the characters in packs. Like the first wave of characters. Long as they price it correctly it should work.

It wouldn’t make too much sense to label the Jago demo as Round One. It’s not anything special since you just download the game and get to play Jago. It would be too easy to accuse Microsoft of false advertising when they use the word game and not demo.

With them packaging it in it makes it pretty obvious that this first season package they’re offering will most likely be dirt cheap.

Yeah I hear you on that. Definitely passing on that promo though. Since I know I’m buying the full game for whatever the full price is, it is basically like paying $25 for Shadow Jago since I just purchase years of XBL whenever I need em and find em for $35 or so.

If they made a physical disc copy of the game though, I’d definitely preorder the special edition of it like I did for SF4 and MVC3.

Yeah it’s obvious they’re not going to release a disc version of this game pretty much ever. If they were to it probably wouldn’t be till they are almost finished with all of the DLC so it would make it worth it to purchase. Plus less having to worry about disc copies sitting around on shelves not making money.

Well, if you are planning on having XBL, you might as well renew a bit early and get season 1 for free.

That’s the way I look at it anyways. It just took $50 off my console purchase, so I am very happy.
