I haven’t been following the game a whole lot but how will the basic gameplay be? I mean will we see insanely long combos often or will they happen every once in a while. I rather have some shorter combos with some mixup/pressure afterwards to keep the match flowing, i know you can break combos at certain points though. Also will there be a strong focus on the neutral game?
Game isn’t out ofcourse but maybe an insight how it’s played right now?
Killer Instinct has always been about long combos. If you don’t like long combos, you won’t like it in the long run. Especially since there’s incentive to finish your opponent off with an ultra combo that can last up to 100 hits or more after you’re already dead.
With that said, the game does give you more options to escape long combos than other fighting games and isn’t as 1 player based once you get into a combo as other long combo games. The game’s spacing game is very much like SF and a lot of the same tools you had in SFIV or SFxT (outside of focus and cross art stuff) are available to you in this game. To me, I would best describe it as I did SFxT which is a newer version of SF Alpha 1 since that had the same premise. Generally ground footsie based game that revolved around chains or long combos.
Sadira throws in a bit of a wrench by being able to wall jump like Vega and double jump like Oro or an anime character, but other than that the spacing game should be familiar.
Had to wait 45 minutes to get into the facility.
Had to wait 1,5 hour in line to get into the bloody XBone room because they just had to place it next to the heavy mainstream hitters.
The line only got bigger as the day progressed.
Had around 15 mins hands on time (they had to literally boot us off) but it was worth it.
No youtube vid does this game justice, you have to see the 60fps on an HD screen.
At first I was worried about the animation with all those cancels due to combo’s etc.
But everything looks nice and fluid, overall the game looks very good.
Just the feel of isolation on Glacius’s Crash Site stage is awesome
In terms of gameplay and controls;
The combo system is friendly but has much room for complex stuff
Landing combo’s feels rewarding, landing a combo breaker even more so.
I had my doubts with this game in terms of animation and gameplay… Those doubts are gone…
Consider me hyped
Yeah I already saw the game in person at Evo, and seeing on those big HD screens and the viewlix style cabinet is very different from watching it on a stream. It’s definitely better in person. I was on the fence about going to Evo until I heard KI was going to be there and that pretty much confirmed me booking a flight.
Glad to see more people are liking it and look forward to whoever gets the Xbox One and the game on day one from SRK.
I’m really curious about Cinder.
I started my KI gaming with Cinder.
His flames will look ridiculous.
So I know DH has announced there will be 6 characters at launch with two more later for 8 characters in the ‘season 1’ if you want to call it that.
In the stream they made it sound like they have several more characters planned.
I’m hoping for a total roster count of 16. That’d pretty awesome I think!
Solid balancing, no two characters the same etc., I’m totally hype for this game!
Thinking the redesign of spinal should probably be a decaying corpse with asymmetrical muscles and tendons hanging off, or do you think that’s in a completely different direction from the Jason and the argonaunts thing?
Actually the end roster count is considered “infinite”. They said as long as people show support they want to keep making characters like LoL. They don’t want this to be something they just throw out there for a little bit, have 16 characters and stop there until they decide on a sequel. Like LoL this is going to be an ecosystem or fighting game universe that updates throughout the years on one title name.
The idea is that you get 8 new characters per year/season and that will last for as many seasons they can make it last. Which obviously will be more challenging as new seasons go by since they only have 15 old characters to work with. Hopefully they have a lot of new ideas in the works that can fit within the universe.
