Killer Instinct (2013)

To be honest I’m not really liking the idea that it seems like they will be releasing characters over time.

Granted, if they release like a full roster at launch, then do updates as the game evolves, that is cool with me. But the vibe I am getting from these videos of the developers talking almost sounds like we are only going to get a handful of the roster at launch and then gradually releasing the rest of the cast.

I hope I’m wrong though.

There seems to be a huge amount I misinformation thanks to the has been irrelevant for years IGN on how the game is releasing.

Here is the facts. On Xbox One Launch Day, the game is releasing with a full cast as a normal retail copy, like every other game ever made.

That same day, a “demo” will be available of no charge. It’s essentially the whole game, but you can only play as one character, Jago.

You can purchase packs of the already released roster from the full retail version, or just buy the game as normal.

As with every current gen fighting game, new characters will be released after the initial release via DLC.

Nothing new there.

Anyone after this who still repeats the same inaccurate info should tarred and feathered.

That isn’t what the DH guys have made it sound like though. If you watch that video up above right before my post, it sounds like it is going to have characters releasing in waves. And according to the devs talking at E3, they plan to have “seasons” of some sort. And when you buy the “full retail” copy at launch, that basically means you are subscribed to all seasons.

I am assuming they will have SOME sort of “full” cast at launch, but just based on what the DH guys are saying I wouldn’t be so certain as you seem to be that the entire case will be available in November with a couple DLC characters coming out later on. I’m not saying that isn’t the case, since we don’t know, but I’m saying the way DH is talking about it isn’t quite as clearly painted as you make it out to be.

It’s also not a “full retail” game like every other game, since it is downloadable only. There will not be a disc version of this game.

@purbeast, I understand you being wary of the situation. Its pretty certain were not going to get a Vanilla SFIV or Marvel sized roster when the game releases.

I expect an Arcade Vanilla SFIV sized roster at launch with maybe 10 to 12 characters at most. I think the entire size of the current KI roster is only slightly larger than that any ways. So even if they were to release every character from day one from the older games, you’re looking at no more than 15 characters

I say realistically we’re looking at 8 to 10 characters launching and those characters will most likely only be KI1 characters with maybe one completely new character. Then packs will be releasing that brings back the KI2 and other KI1 characters and then new ones progressively after. We won’t be paying 50 plus dollars for 5 characters to start the season, but I wouldn’t expect more than 8.

Its been said that they are doing this so people can try characters they are releasing for free as a demo so they can work out bugs and glitches before they officially release the character to buy for those that don’t have the season pass. I know Skullgirls was talking about doing something similar at one time also.

Plus it remains to be seen how much they’re going to make us pay for the whole “season”. I say wait and see.

Yeah that is what I’m thinking as well as far as roster size goes. KI1 only had 10 selectable characters (well 11 with the secret as Eyedol) and KI2 only had a few more. I don’t remember exactly the cast count in KI2 since I haven’t booted it up in ages, but KI1 I never forgot lol.

Regardless I’m hype as shit about this game and I haven’t been this excited about a console launch since probably the N64 since there is a “must have” game at launch for me. I’ve been wanting a new KI game for over a decade and after rumors and what not, it’s just awesome that it is actually coming back.

It made me bust out my KI cab again which I hadn’t powered on in like over 6 years, and made me put all new controls in it since they were so loose and old, but last weekend when messing around with it something happened to my monitor that I need to figure out. Hopefully this weekend I can mess around with it and figure out what is going on.

Yeah if you count every standard character from KI1 and 2 combined you only have 13 characters. Then the 2 bosses which makes it technically 15 characters in the universe. Which means if they were to release 8 of the standard characters, they’d only have 5 extra characters to release and 2 boss characters (which may just end up being regular characters or not used depending).

Basically a lot of the cast will end up being new characters if they want a real decent sized roster at the end of this. It’ll be nice because KI is one of those games where it’s pretty much up to the imagination as long as it’s dark or edgy. I can’t wait to see what new stuff they come up with. Something like a vampire/half vampire or Capoiera character would be really cool. I’d like an actual ninja too.

It’s good to see the community remaining mostly positive after all the controversies and misconceptions that have happened so far.

they need to release more characters asap. all this one or two characters (seemingly) every 3 months stuff isn’t fun at all.

Orchid confirms that along with C.Viper we now have 2 ambiguously black fighting game girls.

They should add

1.A Vampire who fights with an axe (male)

2.A Alien who could shape shift (male)

3.A School Student who fights with ninja weapons (female)

4.A Model who fights with Fans (male trap)

5.A Tree Human who has plant themed moves (female)

6.A Monk who uses a staff (male)
