One thing always confused me. Does this mean Jago is black or Orchid is Asian? Since their brother and sister. And since this chronologically is after KI 2 what is Jago doing since the tiger spirit was Gargos and was manipulating him? Like if they are adopted siblings I forsee lots of questionable fanfics about those two…
Yeah I always wondered that to. Well Jago did seem a little bit darker in KI2 so maybe he is asian/black and Orchid is fully black. But it may be the other way around as well
Also I to wonder what Jago is doing with the tiger spirit inside him now. Wonder what this could do to him in this
It’s ultimately just mike’s opinion and while I respect him as a player I’ll have to play the game myself before having a truly informed opinion. Truth be told is that if someone told me to give my opinion on skullgirlz or games with a similar engine, I’d probably speak poorly of it cause those aren’t the kind of fighting games I enjoy. It’s the main reason I have a hard time understanding the hype for games like GG or marvel…but again it’s just my 2 cents. I dont doubt the potential for KI failing is there and I imagine all the bugs and technical shortcomings will be fixed by the time it releases too.
The only thing I would say bothered me about his opinion was the complain that the game didn’t feel enough like KI but more like SF4. I kind of knew that the game would already be a departure from it’s original forms in terms of looks and feel so I take the issue of not being"pure"to the source lightly. I also took exception to him complaining about it just being another game where you down block and poke…makes me wonder if he just thinks rushing in with mixups is the only effective way to design a game.
It was obvious Mike Z was going to hate the game. Luckily nobody remembers what old competitive Killer Instinct was even like. The game was generally regarded as cheap, typical MVC1/2 type game so it can’t be much worse than the other 2 games before it competitively.
SFIV plays nothing like the older SF games specifically, yet it still captures enough of the spirit of SF for people to still love playing it while it technically does its own thing. That’s what will happen with this game. As long as the spirit of KI is captured, it can just be its own game and work from there. Back in the day most of us played these games to have a good time, not to be super competitive in it. The majority of people clamoring for this game remember dialing in huge ultra combos that knocked people off cliffs and into cars. Not fine tuned competitive play. KI is bringing that back with hopefully an eventual shift towards making the game as competitive as possible.
There isn’t a shit ton of competitive gamers that remember what KI1 played like to make a big deal out of this. The game just has to be its own thing and come out solidly enough or through patches to make it legit. I talk to other gamers who call Mike Z’s own Skullgirls a mash friendly, mix up fest that doesn’t teach you fundamentals. Everyone is going to have their own opinion. There’s people that try to label his game in the same way that he is labeling this game.
I would never put KI1 or KI2 in the same breath or sentence as MvC1/2 in comparison to anything, but I agree with you that not enough people posting today weren’t around when KI1 was in its prime during the mid-90’s to make legitimate reasons & although I wasn’t a Top-Tier KI competitive KI player back then, it had some serious bs that was in those first two installments. Looking back and seeing myself play Orchid and taking on multiple mirror matches or against a long line of Cinder players got stale really fast.
Their is a reason why we don’t have anymore KI tournaments, but yet we still do for games like SF2 which have stood the test of time. My biggest hope is that they will keep or improve upon the enjoyable strong points of previous KI games, but revamping it to make a serious competitive fighting game.
Yeah I just definitely don’t remember anyone praising KI for its technicality and fairness. Everyone basically considered both games cheap and KI1 was the better one for reasons I don’t really know.
If UMVC3 and Skullgirls can be prestigious competitive games (one brings far more turnout than the other), One Killer Instinct shouldn’t have any problem.
So the demo is timed(?), but you get access to all the features during the demo…so it won’t be an endless Jago-fest like Ezio in Soul Cali V outside of the first few weeks? Physical copy and Premium digital copy to be $60, with multiple “packs” to download if you don’t want full version.
That doesn’t sound too bad, I remember players complaining about SF4/SF Tekken DLC with “Why can’t I just buy the characters I want to play.” If $60 is the full price, then each character couldn’t be more than $3.00 a piece?
Looks they’re planning use a GGPO based online system, mentioning SF4 and GGPO as the gold standard for online fighting…hope they just mean SF4’s setup, no that actual netcode.
Aside from Mike Z consulting, Ken Lobb is supervising, was the co-creator of Killer Instinct 1 and designer on KI2.
Yeah as long as they use MvC Origins or HD Remix style rollback netcode I’m good. Tired of dealing with netcode that makes things happen more slowly than when you’re pressing them. I’ve been dealing with that since CVS2 EO in 2003. 9 years is enough.
You probably forgot me but we used to play from time to time online in 3s on the old Xbox. I went by so many names…neymus, rhiaggo sennin, rik aguilera lol. I find it funny how after so many years the worst online connection is still smoother then the fighters we played before ha.
