Yeah Killer Instinct (and Darkstalkers) heavily inspired Marvel. Naming combos and making everything over the top is what KI is about. They would even purposely make the sound louder during fatalities as a way to draw a crowd over to the arcade cabinet. Killer Instinct is just good old shit blowing up in your face like the 80s and 90s were about.
I think it’s less about people trying to dictate how the game “should” be and more of people saying “Wow, these particle effects that happen every time fireballs collide with each other that fill the entire god damn screen and make it hard to see ANYTHING are fucking obnoxious and dumb and I personally don’t like it.”
Anyone not in these countries shouldn’t expect to get this game any time soon.

First Mame now arcade machine access… feelin nostalgic.
Well the latest stuff from the new KI looks like they want to recapture the FUN the game had (essentially KI 1)… I do hope we get the Original cast plus a few from 2 (Kim Wu please) an maybe some new ones.
That might explain how Mike Z got around not having update fees on Skull Girls
KI was the first game that made combos an actual feature of the game, yeah earlier fighters had combos but that was a bug exploit not a feature. Capcom just decided not to fix the bug in later versions of SF II as it added a dynamic in the game they didn’t expect. In Later SF titles they made Combos a feature and KI shown it was possible.
I love the sparks that fly over the place. I played SF4 yesterday and the lack of sparks suddenly bothered me. It actually makes more sense to have all those sparks fly out after a large ball of fire explodes in your face and knocks you back a few steps, than for it to completely disappear with little to no effect.
