I mean, I wouldn’t go that far. I don’t know any Urien’s that don’t go for it given the opportunity. It’s extremely hard to parry because there’s multiple ways to apply the unblockable. Yeah, if you’re doing the traditional forward-mk unblockable, chances are someone will parry that, but that method of unblockable died a long time ago.
RX went for it at just about every opportunity at coop cup last month, it’s just the opportunity to go for it is pretty rare at high level. You basically have to land a cr.fierce, a dash-through or your opponent misses a quick-rise, which are all pretty rare in high level play.
With that said, I agree, if Aegis is in SFV, there definitely won’t be unblockables. =[
I’m thinking on urien’s zoning side.
You know, he can AA with fireball and tackle you to the corner. In 3s that was avoidable with air parry, but not now, so maybe he can fulfill that role too.
I know most of us don’t care about that role, we want to take down people with aegis setups, but maybe zoning for urien is going to be toned up because of this game’s mechanics.
What do you guys think of making Aegis Reflector Urien’s V-Trigger, in which upon activation he instantly deploys one, like how Rashid does with his Whirlwind, but his V-Trigger is on a timer similar to Karin, Ryu and Bison, and the full bar allows him to deploy two more Reflectors, after which the VT runs out?
Along with Balrog my most anticipated character this season. I only played 3s briefly but watching my freinds and their intense matches has me salivating to use him.
Ehh Capcom’s default curse of action is to nerf, they don’t need any more cheering in that regard. Also, the lack of parries are enough to justify a buff in startup frames without having to take anything else in return. There’s no longer the advantage of messing with parry timings by using slightly delayed moves like st. HK or cr. MP.
How does Necalli’s Sun Disk Guidance work? I ask that because on the surface it is an horizontal charge move just like Chariot Tackle. Does it has different properties? It looks airborne and capable of going over low moves, so that could be used as a way to keep it different to Chariot Tackle, which is a move that is imperative to keep in SFV along its awesome juggles. If they feel like fiddling with Urien’s moveset, they could easily take out his Knee Drop and give him something else, since that move was almost useless save for some dirty Aegis Reflector setups.
Might as well bring this up. One of the most iconic things about Urien (despite being visually just a naked man) is his voice. I think people can recognize Urien by his voice before they even look at him. The raspy “crushes” and “kills” just really make him personality wise for me.
His voice was done by the guy who did Cable’s voice on the Xmen TV show and I doubt they’ll bring him back for V. Are you guys holding out for some hope that they may cast him again or just generally hoping the new guy lives up to his voice?
I guess new guys will be the better term since he will have English and Japanese actors. If his English actor is really bad I’ll just default to Japanese.
From the shadowy dark ranks out here in Nor Cal, I hear V-trigger will indeed be Aegis.
Also there’s an interesting change to his stand roundhouse (the overhead).
I dont think his V-Trigger will be Aegis, it will be to similar to Rashids V-trigger and Capcom doesnt want that. They want everyone to be as unique as possible. Aegis will probably end up being his CA.
The whole “Rashid’s v-trigger being like Aegis” is bullshit. Aside from the unblockables in 3S you got decent high/low/throw mixups off of trapping your opponent with Aegis. Even in blockstun the high/low continued. With Rashid’s v-trigger the second your opponent starts blocking his v-trigger your mixup opportunities pretty much disappear. Those 3 hits come and go real quick if theyre in blockstun and you certainly cant cancel into v-trigger and get any mixups. Rashid’s is better utilized as a hit confirm for more damage outside of a few mixup situations where as Aegis could stay out a lot longer and give extended combos if landed.
Its not bullshit, they are very similar in their foundation. Its a wall that moves towards your opponent helping you create ambitious setups. Oh do you know Capcom released a version of 3s that didnt have Aegis unblockables? We all know Aegis will not have unblockable setups in SFV. Anyways, I dunno why everyone goes into a 1:1 comparison with what Aegis did in SF3 as if thats excatly how its going to work in SFV. You do know they are different games running on different rules right? It makes absolutely no sense to me, cough Ryu’s v-skill cough.
I dont see Aegis as a V-trigger due to the guidelines Capcom is using in creating everyone as unique as possible.
You just reinforced my point, even if SFV Urien has Aegis as VT similar to 3S it would be different enough than Rashid’s to validate it as his VT. It was in 3S and could in SFV be used to control your opponent and set up an ambiguous situation like you said. You really cant do that with Rashid consistently because of how quickly it disappears when the opponent is put into blockstun and its not even possible to get a mixup if you activate it on block unlike Aegis.
Despite every character being unique like you said that Capcom wants that is not the case for v-triggers. Look at how many install type v-triggers there are yet how different the characters play overall. It would certainly not make Urien unoriginal if his v-trigger was a little similar one other character’s and that is even without them changing it at all which they probably would do to spice things up. I’m not saying that if Aegis isn’t his v-trigger that he couldn’t have a cool v-trigger but the way the game is now is if he has Aegis it will be his VT. The only critical art in the game even close to being that different is Dhalsim’s considering you could use it for a mixup even though people don’t aside from rare unintentional resets.
Post above yours, as a CA you can get 2 to come out. The button presses after CA activation can determine desire setup with them. I dont see why this cant be done.
