I’m thinking 2 hits and being able to kara cancel after the first hit. That maybe wishful thinking, but one can dream.
If you could combo cr.lp off of the two hit overhead Guys pressure game would step up to a whole new level.Comboing into runslide for untechable knockdown off of the overhead would be amazing.
i dont think they would let us do this =/ playing against Guy you have to guess enough as it is.
honestly if the changes put Guy into a top tier position when AE comes out, i will most likely stop playing him too.
How would they do that? Making Guy ‘top’ requires some very, very deep design changes. So far from what we saw, unless I missed something… we’re seeing:

Obvious design errors (TC hitboxes etc.) corrected.

Giving him faster armor breaks (or adding armor breaks where he previously didn’t have a useful one at that range, such as the f.MP overhead) so he doesn’t get Focused for free all the time.

Weakening some of his peripheral moves (flip grab, for example).
Fixing his whiffs doesn’t make him top tier; it makes him intuitive to play. Making it so Focus doesn’t shut down half his game so casually, and doing it through overheads, means he now has more depth to his guessing game at ranges other than extremely close combat. Toying around with ideas like nerfing an already marginal move (flip grab) suggests they have no plans to just put him on a gravy train to free wins, too.
I wouldn’t worry about AE’s patching making him so good that there’s a stigma on using him. Instead I think he’s going to quit being so… underperforming in nearly every regard. He’ll probably wind up as a balanced, middle-of-the-pack character. He’d need stronger defense, safer/better overheads, Edit: some kind of abusable normal, etc. in order to become ‘top tier’, I suspect.
i didnt say he is going to be top tier. i said “if”. also, the changes are tentative. nothing is set in stone yet. the actual arcade release may be drastically different. weve already seen that capcom is willing to really shake things up a lot by some of the nerfs/buffs at the loc test.

if any changes are staying with guy though…i HIGHLY doubt they would not keep the fix of his TC working correctly. that’s just … a huge design flaw that absolutely needs to have been fixed. i don’t think they would bring it back to how it is now. and it’s not like it being there would change him much tier wise. it just gives him the ability to pressure a bit more safely.

I’m pretty sure most of us here aren’t out to paint the other in a bad light and assume bad faith in a discussion. All we do is in the service of Bushinryu, after all.
*: Granted, currently they already do so, but it’s in the opposite way that they might use the phrase for the likes of Rufus or Dhalsim or Boxer or Abel.
That and you don’t have to worry about whiffing Fierce punch and getting Ultra comboed. True story!
kind of sad that combofiend opted not to use guy in the battle of the bay tourney. guess he didn’t want to risk it… and the tourney was character locked i believe so you couldn’t change your character to counterpick.
shoutouts to K1, cheech, and yhposolihp who were in the stream chat. RJ… the ibuki player that beat f. champ… is one of the regulars i play at the arcade i live near… dude is no joke… and he plays like… every character and just bodies people. really good training opponent and a very smart player. he adapts really fast. really was hoping for doug and rj to reset the finals so the rest of the northbay team could play again.
It’s funny that the mention of that was brought up here. I was fighting someone online for the first time in… well… a while (my room mates haven’t been here, so I haven’t had anyone to level up with unless I wanted to go clear across town. Which I don’t), and I actually happened upon a Cammy. Good for me, considering I don’t know a single Cammy main, so my experience against her is pretty limited.
Well, I guess his experience against Guy is limited too, because once I started using the command elbow to bait out Cammy’s DP, I was untouchable. After winning, the dude actually sent me a pretty salty message saying something around the lines of, “if you didn’t use such cheap characters like Guy, I would have kicked your ass. Whatever. GG.” I told him that I was sorry and that I’d use the weaker Balrog next time if he wanted a rematch.
I had a pretty good chortle from that, hahaha.

Cam vs Rog is such a bad match-up for Cam, it’s almost not funny anymore. If you’re cracking jokes about it, you also laugh about blind kids in wheelchairs ^^

Cammy V Rog is 6-4 in rogs favor, at worse. the only thing he can do against tkcs pressure is headbutt/ex headbutt which is easily safejump tkcs’ed. also, an ambiguous crossup Cstrike will beat out headbutt and ex heabutt clean. all cammy really has to worry about is getting rog off of her once he closes in. lucky for her she has a 3 frame crouching short with good range. she can footsie better than he can (for the most part) and can easily beat out all rush punches with cr.mk buffering SA.

Yeah, I used to play Cammy too and I’ll probably gonna play her again at the next tourney, but Guy is way more fun.
Also, while playing Guy I’m forced to be more patient and can’t play like I used to. Hopefully that’s gonna improve my performance at the tournament, I wanna survive the pools for the first time ^^
