Kick your sneakers off and relax~ Guy General Discussion Thread

I’m confident Sim’s super will connect so I’ll try that later.

Im very hopeful for Ultra so far. i got to play it at final round and i really think guy is too good

GOOD!!! its about fucking time that guy will be “TOOOO” good… im tired of all these mashing fools getting the best of me. i hate playing a solid game and the other fool is just on autopilot and gets the win… thats y im glad dp fadc is gonna be -5. is like ive always said that if guys flawed moves are to be fixed properly and a few buffs, we will see him contend and place more often… #cantwaittillultraguy!!!

Okay. Far st.MP is -4. Guy gets lit up by Sim. HOWEVER - I dunno wtf’s going on but cr.lk into cr.mp seems to connect.
I’m doing it right next to Sim so it should hit on the first active frame - and frame data says cr.lk is +5 on hit…and cr.mp has 6 frames of startup. Again, this is the PC version which I don’t trust that much…but really what’s going on ???

COUNTER HIT IS OFF OF COURSE.

Guy is a thinking man’s character. No amount of buffs is going to change that about him. If you seriously know Guy and understand how he should be played, and are still losing to ‘autopilot mashing fools’ then there is something wrong.

And I don’t mean wrong with Guy…I mean wrong with how you’re playing him.

Hmm that is very bizarre indeed. I would have to say that’s a PC glitch. I’ve never had that work outside of counter hit.

I’ll test it right now.

EDIT:

10 attempts and never got it, are you’re setting create and you have it on fixed and not smooth.

I dunno what my settings were…why - does it change hitstun? WHAT KIND OF PORT IS THIS CAPCOM???

edit: ok it was set on smooth - i changed it to fixed and I can’t get the link now…that makes me think all my other testing was BS.

EDIT 2: FLASHKICK CONNECTS AFTER FAR ST.MP IS BLOCKED - CONFIRMED THIS MATCH UP IS ASS. I STAND BY EVERYTHING I SAID.

How the hell do you punish a chun li that simply hits kikoken and spams cr.hits

Anyone who simply replied Ex._______ obviously has never played a Chun who does this from the beginning of Round 1.

I’ve never consistently beaten this. I never bait anything out of a decent played because there’s nothing for them to be scared of. Cr.ls beat everything.

If that’s the case I expect every Guile to flash kick me after st.mp and -4 or worse run stops… I don’t see that happening consistently. Du even put the match as even.

Well, Du ought to read my post above, about the facts.
And no, don’t expect any Guile to flashkick you - most people still don’t know the Guy match-up and that includes Guile players.

Her fireball recovery isn’t great. Guy’s tools in this match-up are viable. She doesn’t have a crazy good anti-air either.
Kikoken is not a big challenge in this match-up. Random ex-legs (mashing) to Ultra 2 is.

Trust me Du knows that matchup, and Dieminions knows it but you have to remember human error pays a valuable price if they mess up and don’t have meter. Most players won’t commit to things like that every time for few reasons, if they allow their opponent to catch on they lose future opportunities to do it where it could have won them the round. Also not every chance a Guile will be sitting on a charge when you poke.

Run me through what you do then.

Match starts -> Back Dash, Kikoken (cover with a nj.hk, the split kick) -> repeat Kikoken set up until Guy enters your area and you can combo into a HKD

How do you respond?

Get a good jump in.

Your aim is to inch closer to the mid range, where good Chuns will not throw kikokens, because this is where EX Run/Slide works, or you can stuff/trade her with your normals. I don’t believe MP Hozanto works against Kikoken, or you just have to start it very early, either way it’s not a great option.

Focus is your best friend against sweep. If the sweep isn’t max range, you can block and punish with far/close MP or cr LK. Or even better, whiff punish with far MP. Don’t get too predictable with far MK, because her sweep outranges it.

I think Guy’s cr MK is probably the best counter against her far MP. I’m still not sure how Guy’s cr HK slide fares against it.

Since she’s got great normals, that also cancel into EX Legs, you don’t want to get close to her in the neutral. Whiff punish HKD is the best option against Chun. If she has no meter, she is free on wakeup, time to pressure.

Isn’t Du that guy who plays Guile offensively??
I’m assuming he’d do that against Guy too so…

I have yet to seem him pull it off.

So af0 I just did testing against Flashkick and standing MP, it doesn’t hit at every range and the ranges where it doesn’t hit are pretty significant and I tested with all versions of flashkick.

How far back? Did you try cr.lp x3 into st.MP?

Safe, 2 lps into st mp is unsafe however you’ll likely be close enough for TC which is safe at that range.

Last night I had a set against one of the VaD players and I couldn’t get past his defense. He was using Rufus and generally walked back a lot, which made my pokes not reach. It’s hard to get a read on what he will do. For example, when I notice he’s crouch teching, I try to blow it up with frame trap cr.MP or cl.MK. Doesn’t fall for it. So I go for tick throws and staggered cr.LKs. Still no dice. He does seemingly basic defensive options, but I can’t seem to ever get a solid read on what he’ll do.

It’s a little hard to explain so if anyone wants to critique my set, please let me know so I can replay them for you (XBL).
