I really appreciate you taking the time to show me the replays. I noticed that kingsagat was respecting your rush down a lot. Sometimes you would try to bait and he won’t take it. But then when you go for a jump in, he doesn’t seem to react fast enough. In my experience against him, I haven’t been able to jump in at all. Maybe I play him on his good days. Is his respect out of conditioning/mind-games or can you really read that far into the future? The same could be said with the jumps over his low tiger shots. I haven’t been able to get a read on his fireball patterns yet.
I noticed your style is focused on lots of rushdown. I’m still not sure why is it so effective, though. Like, are all the strings spaced 1-2 frames apart? I try to do the occasional rushdown myself and I get reversal’ed quite a bit. I’m not sure what I’m missing here.
Yeah through a lot of trial and error with him, I figured out how to forward jump > elbow drop to make tiger uppercut (often even the kara version) whiff. This is why he uses ultra 2 against me because from that range he can ultra on reaction to the elbow drop for full damage. If he worked on timing his roundhouse antiair better, maybe I would be forced to approach him from the ground more often. But he just keeps tiger uppercutting so I keep on baiting him into it. But I have a pretty good read on when he likes to throw fireballs. You could almost call my anti-fireball jump ins an OS, because if he throws a fireball I go for HK and if not I always try to elbow drop at a safe distance.
I usually like to stagger my cr. LKs with 1 or 2 block frames in between to catch mashers and cr. throw techs. I’m not a huge fan of using cr. jab true block strings because it creates too much distance to be much use to me.
Yeah I too am actually new to the FG scene, not even an 09’er I’m a ver 2012’er lol.
It took me many losses to realize Guys gimmicks can only go so far, they’re not as risk rewarding as say, Hakan or Fuerte. In the long run, it boils down to pure fighting game instinct.
In this age where information available off a phone screen, people gain knowledge and learn quickly, but they become over reliant on it. They fight purely with knowledge (some become auto-pilot/braindead/setup repetitive as a result), and tend to struggle greatly when in peril.
It’s like a person who has never drank in his life, claiming to know all about wine after reading books about it. Sure he’s got facts, but can he truly describe the feeling in the mouth? Recommendations and personal preference? It’s all about the experience.
Infiltration started off as an online warrior from Vanilla, but since Korea’s got godlike internet speed, he’s managed to rack up a ton of experience.
So I was messing around in training room studying focus attacks. I found that Guy can combo ‘Target Combo cancelled into Medium Hozanto cancelled into Super Combo’ for about 540 damage. The attack data only reads 484 dmg, but technically Its more than that. I was practicing against people who hold their focus attack a little to long and found that it works. The first attack is absorbed and the second attack of target combo creates a counter-hit so that explains why it works. It makes me wonder what other stuff works with other characters.
hmmm that’s interesting. i’ve been using TC to blow up focus attempts a lot lately… i never noticed the counterhit. if they hold the focus and don’t release the attack will the 2nd hit of TC still cause a counterhit… or is it only CH because they’re trying to release after the 1st hit gets absorbed?
Other stuff I found vs Focus Attack: 1. Normal Overhead (counter hit) crLk or Ex Tatsu works. 2. Target Combo cancelled into instant Run Stop, crLk works as well. I’m not sure but I thought I did Target Combo cancelled into instant Run Stop, Bushin Chain Combo against Ryu in the corner. I have to check again.
So Target Combo instant Run Stop, Bushin Chain Combo does work but the timing is tight. In USF4 this should be a tad easier seeing Run Stop recovers a little faster which will help with my timing.
My guess is, this is the reason Guy’s TC wasn’t buffed to what was first shown in the Ultra edition video - which seemed to have considerable range. It would break focus from crazy ranges.
Using TC to break focus is especially important in the mirror though. Guy’s focus stance is annoying as it makes his hittable box even fatter and easier to reach.
Yeah I literally went 2 years without ever using ninja sickle, now I use it all the time! I noticed it’s pretty good at blowing up Balrog’s EX dashes if you do it meaty or time it right on reaction from mid screen.
That works against balrog’s ex’s? The second hit follows quite slowly, I thought balrogs ex straights would blow that up. Unless you’ve only tried it against ex overhead and the other slower moves? Not to mention the ninja sickle is pretty negative, perhaps Balrog can ultra punish it.
with all the recent changes announced for guy, ive been trying to play a more footsie approach and find the ninja sickle very useful. plus it looks so damn cool
Yeah I don’t think it will beat EX dash straights even from max range on the earliest frame, but I haven’t tested that. It seems to work pretty good against the low, upper and overhead though. Just last night I blew up a Balrog’s wakeup EX dash low with meaty ninja sickle > EX hozanto > FADC > ultra. That works from almost mid screen distance. Great for blowing up cr. throw tech mashers on wakeup as well. If you time the EX hozanto early (i.e. hit them when they’re higher in the air) they travel further. Combined with the alleged ‘increased distance’ on the 2nd hit of ultra we are getting, maybe this will become an even more viable mid screen ultra setup.
More stuff vs Focus Attack: 1. Neck Flip (first attack absorb, second attack creates counter-hit) can combo into crLk, crLp, or Ex Tatsu. 2. Target Combo, FADC forward dash can combo into crLk, crLp or Bushin Chain Combo. The damage isn’t that great but good overall. 3. From my testing, if stMp is absorb from focus attack, the second attack (stHp) will almost always hit. Also I think Target Combo cancelled into Medium Hozanto is great. It does good damage and pushes the opponent a little further away towards the corner so I can gain extra damage.
Maximum style points to you my friend! There’s very little point in blowing the meter to FADC after TC when, as you pointed out in your last post, cancelling into immediate run stop leaves you at +3. I’ve always wanted to find a way to combo with a run stop in the middle. A hell of a way to make your opponent HOLD THAT!
Does anyone know if the hit box extends forward in the later active frames of hozanto? I’ve noticed from max range against Sagat and I think Abel and Balrog too, TC > LP hozanto both on hit and on block can be beat by tiger uppercut or similar. Now that I think of it I’m pretty sure Zangief has SPD’d me out of it as well. Doesn’t make sense to me unless the hit box kinda moves forward once it’s become active? Otherwise it should always work at all ranges according to the frame data.
