Who are you all using (if at all) as partners with Guy?
Streak suggested Fei or Chun.
I obtained most of Chun’s match-up knowledge and want to do the same with Guy, yet the Chun board has all their MUs in one place, =oP
Is it worth it to compile all of Guy’s AE MUs?
I’ve started a word doc but just curious if this is something you all deem helpful, since the majority of you are well-versed in his MUs?
My goal would be to compile as much data on the MUs from various posts and put them in one Word doc which I could then send to whomever created the previous match-up threads and cut down on unnecessary threads…
What do you Guys think?
Edit: Oh, and I would like to also send my energies to Nice1. Fuuuu-SION! =oP
Rog sounds like an interesting sub, probably only because I’m terrible in Guy vs Rog, so playing the character may help out. The thought of transitioning to a charge char frightens me though.
Chun-Li is a hybrid of sorts. She has charge moves and a few circular motion moves and the rapid kick. Perhaps a good transition to charge characters? I understand the perspective of playing Rog to understand him. Good stuff.
Interestingly, and odd to me, in J.Wong’s tier list for AE, he lists Guile and Rufus as partners for Guy. Is Guile really an option? Why not Dee Jay?
First I should probably focus on improving my novice Bushinryu skills…
You know those nameless grunt chars in RPGs that do nothing but “Attack” or “Potion”? Dee Jay is the result of making such characters playable. Hes got nothing special or unique, and is highly victimized.
All the more reason to show mad respect to all the DJ mains out there.
in atlant we have a deejay main. DaKnut. so scary to play. amazing the way he builds his fortress. its really hard to get in on him. i guess im saying his buttons arent so bad if someone uses them correctly
Strategically speaking, I think Sagat is the best secondary character for Guy players to learn. Simply because the worst matchups for Guy are Honda and Zangief, and both of those matchups are cakewalks for Sagat. They are the only matchups where I think Guy is handicapped enough to warrant switching.
But personally I’ve always only ever used melee characters seriously in fighting games. My fireball timing and spacing is awful and you need it to be ON POINT to be a good Sagat player.
it was every other week. the next one is Feb 15th. here is the link to the facebook page.
they keep it pretty up to date. there is only one other guy from here that plays and think nice1 will be at the next one. yall should come out if you can.
Guy can rush him down without a huge worry, even in Ultra Deejay vs Guy will likely be a 5-5 rather than a 6-4 (Guy’s Favour) But Deejay won’t have a lot of options if you stay grounded.
I know Im probably 4 years late but what do you guys think of Densetsu no Otaku? At first glance he seems to be a player thats very aggro and likes to press buttons, but in that hour long vid of his games, he makes a lot of good reads, baits, and demonstrates a few char specific tech. I think a lot of online Guys tried to imitate him without quite understanding the meaning behind his moves, which explains their poor decision making.
My favorite trick of his is using focus and the air izuna to pull off Guys version of a Snackish Special.
at the time… OTK was, in my opinion, the best guy. for those that don’t know, he was a very strong cvs2 player back in the day. i was really glad to see him come back and playing guy no less. i know what he’s capable of… i’d be really curious to see what he could do if he took the game more seriously. it’s been a while since i’ve seen his matches though. i’m gonna have to go back and watch them. but yea… when i 1st saw him playing guy… i thought he was the strongest at the time. he tends to do really well with mid tiers… he played K-rock, kyo, hibiki in cvs2, so it’s no wonder he was using guy.
I hadn’t played good Sagat’s in a while, but recently I did and it was painful. It seems the only good way of really getting in is by guessing a jump-in and when they’re in fireball recovery. His kara dp trading with elbow is a huge payoff which pretty much means death for Guy if he has ultra (I know it’s gonna change in ultra). He can use st.Mp to anti-air if you’re trying to cross him up and “avoid” the DP. Poking him with st.MK is weird cos it tends to whiff even from close distances, especially if he’s counter-poking with st.HK.
His jumping normals are too slow and have low priority in my opinion - and this is made utterly worse because of his slow jump as well. The hitboxes tend to face horizontally which means you have to wait even longer to get in range for your jumping normal to hit. E.g Sagat does a low fireball and you jump in correctly to punish, but you have to wait extra frames for your normal to connect because there are no downward hitting normals (e.g blankas jumping heavy, fei’s jumping MP, Cammy’s jumping HP etc etc etc) and his jump speed makes it even worse, so he actually recovers in time or your jumping normal whiffs altogether. This also makes it much easier for your opponent to comfortably anti-air; you can’t really do that “surprise” jump-in with Guy I feel, where your opponent wasn’t ready to AA.
Similarly I played a Guile who also knew Guy really well and felt like he exposed the character. It’s been a while since I played good European players, but some of them have really gotten used to the Guy match-up. Guile’s crouching hp was made to look broken and there was literally no jumping in, even after sonic boom recovery and him losing his charge. Guy’s far MP is currently -4 on block and -1 on hit which I think is bullshit. This means Guile can brainlessly flashkick as soon as he blocks far.stMP cos the target combo whiffs on block.
Guy has some major match-up specific issues and I don’t feel confident at all that they’re gonna be fixed in the next version - he’s probably gonna remain a broken character;in the low-tier sense - but at the same time he’ll have match-ups which he can handle decently, possibly making people think “there’s nothing wrong with him.”
He has ineffective jumping normals and is very easy to react to when played against defensively. His current specials are more or less useless, I’m talking about the normal tatsus which are almost never used, and his shoulders which are slow and again, have little to no use because the risk/reward is downright petty and high level opponents will react to them in the neutral game. His elbows, both command and flip elbow, lack considerably in both block and hit stun - even leaving him *negative *against standing opponents, which is ridiculous in itself because it’s such a risky move to pull out to begin with and can be made to whiff with low profile moves anyway. His cr.mk often only hits once and does little to no damage, not causing a knockdown with the second hit.
These are just some things I think are being totally neglected and overlooked, especially his jumping game and his elbows, and I don’t think Guy’s going anywhere, even if TC no longer whiffs in the next version.
Guy is very hard to play at high level and win constantly. His pokes are great,he has many tools to get pass fireballs, great oki and baits. His negatives would be long jump arc,his wake up game is a commitment aka gamble.
Guy vs guile is a dry match-up that guy can win without ever jumping(outside of safejumps). In sweep range for Guy’s Cr.HK you can EX run slide on reaction to sonic booms so you can lame guile out which many never do.Problem is getting the health lead is more important then meter gain and a good guile player won’t just let you get in that range for free and stay there.
Guy vs Sagat match-up is the same as guile but you can bait sagat more(hope that makes sense) and you have abit more time to punish his fireballs. His kara uppercuts are a problem (but after playing so much yun) if I think he is baiting my jumps I like to walk forward bit by bit to push him to the corner.Jumping on sagat is something I never focus on its a up hill battle if I haven’t A)got a knockdown B)checked if they can anti-air well.
Guy is upper mid-tier he only has four real bad match-ups and they are not hopeless 1’s Rufus, Honda,Boxer and gief.
