Okay so can someone please explain something to me?
Ive been testing safejump setups ive been working on and when I do them, they work on Guy doing EX Tatsu with reversal timing…My safejump setup works perfectly fine. The problem is, when I try the same setup and test it with Ken and Guile ( EX SRK and EX Flash Kick, respectively) my safejump setup gets beat clean everytime. Now, according to the frame data, all of the reversals mentioned have a startup time of 4f…yet Guy is being safejumped, but Ken and Guile are not. Now, either both Ken and Guile’s frame data are wrong, or Guys is wrong…im just not understanding why this is happening. The safejump works on all 5 frames reversals though. Just wondering why it works vs Guy but not vs Ken / Guile.
I was just messing around in training and was trying whiffing various moves off a backthrow for a setup, and I ended up doing backthrow > take a slight step st.hp + hold upforward > j.mk.
It crosses up on most people and it safejumps vs guys EX tatsu 100% of the time…yet it doesnt work vs kens EX DP or Guile’s EX FK. I also just found out something else interesting: I thought it for sure safejumped 5f reversals so I tried safejumping Sagat EX DP and Fei’s EX Flame kick…the strange thing is 1) this setup doesnt crossup on these characters, Guy lands in front, and 2) it works 100% vs Sagat, but gets beat clean every time by Fei.
This setup obviously isnt going to work due to it being iffy, but thats a lesser issue to me now…im just moreso really curious now why it works in certain situations and doesnt work in others…things just dont add up math wise. If it safejumps Guy’s EX Tatsu, shouldnt it be able to safejump everything 5f and above ? yet it loses to Fei EX Flame kick…and I dont think its a matter of which side Guy lands on, because Sagat and Fei both have 5f startup reversals, Guy safejumps Gat’s and gets beat clean to Fei…why ? and the same situation for Guys EX Tatsu vs Kens EX DP / Guile EX Flash…this is really just bugging me lol. I dont even care if my setup works, I just really want to know why this is happening. I recorded a vid to so I can post it if thatll help.
Edit: Just tested again, safejump works vs cammy, but not vs Seth…and theyre supposed to both have 5f reversals (EX at least)
Whatever safe jump attempt you are doing is probably going to work on Sagat/Cammy. They get up one frame slower than the cast. Obey posted a Backthrow safe jump video a while back. That’s probably the best you’re going to get.
I’m aware of his safe jumps off of backthrow, I was just trying to mess around and figure out a possible new ambiguous safe jump or unblockables / etc. I totally forgot about the extra 1 frame that Sagat and Cammy have, thanks for reminding me. That explains everything.

is there a face book group for Guy players to talk/discuss about improving our gameplay/match up questions and such? Just noticed that some characters has a group that basically does what you guys do here. I don’t mind visiting this thread but was just curious ha ha.

If this upcoming patch does come to realization, Capcom will most likely give Guy buffs. I honestly can’t see any nerfs hitting him compared to the other fighters.
Now thinking about it, I don’t hear much complaining about Guy and his metagame either (which is a good thing <3).
So here’s a neat trick. In the corner, after four hit hk tatsu (whichever way you get that in), back dash, lp hozanto, if it hits, ultra 1. Just gives you super meaty lp hozanto, I guess or just perfect range. Either way, you have time to ultra, which is fun. I don’t know if people knew this or not, but here it is.
Hozantos are generally speaking far too slow to use as meaty attacks. Your opponent has too much time to react, the only way it would hit them is if they went for wakeup cr. throw tech OS, walk forward or jump. But the odds are you will eat an invincible reversal in the face (thus losing your corner pressure) or they will just block it. But at least you’re generally safe if they do block it. It is a viable setup but it will only work on people who have crappy reactions or like panic jumping in the corner.
