Kick your sneakers off and relax~ Guy General Discussion Thread

No need for PM or pointers, there’s tutorial thread and Guy honestly isn’t that hard to use, nothing to the extent of Viper.

Ah well he seems a lot more difficult than Ryu or Ken for me. But I’ll stick with him because I dislike playing vanilla characters. I think my main problem right now is my inability to complete his ultras in multiplayer. I can do them in the training mode but I guess my fingers just screw something up in multi. This is the first fighting game I’ve played online… so that’s probably most of my problem right there.

Worked my way up to a C ranking playing off and on through the night but I still suck. More experienced players simply demolish me.

Is anybody here going to Summer Jam that is the next major I’m going to and before that I’m trying to head down to New York

Would if I could but won’t have the money I’m sure but ny is only an hour from me roughly

I just found two combos against sagat that i didnt know before, not sure if theyve been posted already First is cl.hk st.hp st.hp, if you add the jump in at the start with hk or hp it does 700 stun which is more than the usual cl.hk st.hp st.mp combos and without using any meter.
second was cr.hp bushin chain, I know it works on CH against some characters but i didnt know it works normally.
Also theres an option select against everyone (as far as I know), which is cr.mp st.hp (buffer mk tatsu or hozanto) what happens is if the cr.mp hits normally or is blocked the st.hp comes out as a far st.hp and no special move comes out from the buffer, but if the cr.mp hits as a counter the st.hp becomes cl.st.hp and the buffered move comes out which means you can buffer an mk tatsu and be completely safe if it is blocked or use hozanto if you are in the corner

Dunno if this is widely known or not and haven’t seen a video of it

MikeySupreme I just tested it and it works. Good find.

Of course it works! Did you happen to try it against any other characters?

It’s going to be widely known now. It’s shown on EHubs Kiryu did it against a Fuerte player.

I referenced that video in my description, my friend sent me the video, i guess he got it from Ehubs. I never go to that place.

Anyone here going to EVO this year?

Luminare is but… Kiyo… is going. I don’t anyone else that is going.

That option select is dangerous. There’s not enough block stun on cr. mp to string the st. hp safely afterwards. Also the mk tatsu should always be safe in this situation because the move is hit confirmed after the counter hit. Having said that I think there’s at least a couple of characters that would whiff against. My hunch is it wouldn’t work correctly against Abel, Balrog, Seth and probably Sakura and Dhalsim too.

Oh and in the Sagat combo, couldn’t you just go for cl. hk, cl. hp, far mp xx run slide into neutral jump OS. Or if they’re midscreen, go for an EX hozanto instead of run slide for better positioning after knockdown. But then that’s just my strategy, always thinking about the knockdown positioning and what my next setup is going to be. EDIT BEFORE POSTING: My bad, just seen you said it’s best for stun!

Sadly Sagat gets up a frame later so going for a Neutral Jump is also dangerous unless you plan to block and crouch tech a grab, I either just do pressure on his wake up.

I know what you mean but if used at the right time the idea is that if the opponent is hitting buttons you counter hit with cr.mp in your usual pressure and if they aren’t then it wont matter, obviously you cant use it all the time but that pretty much sums up playing as guy lol

just a random tidbit of possibly overlooked knowledge, Guys forward dash is so low it can go through some things.

Kiryu played acqua’s cammy on his stream and I saw him do jump back HKs on cammy’s jumpins at certain range which beat EX cannon strikes everytime, interesting.

How do you guys feel about Guy in this version?

Still needs a few things but he’s far better than he was in Super.
