Kick your sneakers off and relax~ Guy General Discussion Thread

same thing happened to me yesterday on a guy mirror match… he jumped in with elbow drop n i woke up with ex tatsu and it whiffed… i have the replay saved… xbl gt… fresco4eva…

I think I’ve fought you before fresco probably back in Super, I remember your name.

Yea it does when he uses cr.rh. Idk about the run/slide though. It has terrible recovery so I wouldn’t be surprised if it hit. I haven’t tested his cr.mk, cuz I wonder if her FA has air-borne frames now like sakuras or cammy.

Been out of the game and out of the forum for a while its the end of the year and graduate school is kicking my ass…
I have 5 major presentations ahead of me…so after that Ill come back, test the game propoerly, add anythign I can to the forums, rewrite my tutorial, and translate this list for you guys…
See you in something like 2 weeks!
Cheers!

Cr.MK i was referring to ex tatsu whiffing on it not for FA, is cr.mk is probably to quick that the FA wouldn’t become active.

Yeah I think we did. Add me when u get a chance. I played NO GAUGHE GETTA recently n he whooped my ass in a guy mirror. He has great execution n good reactions. Don’t know how to get better with my reactions. Open for any suggestions.

Sadly I don’t have a system or any form of way to play online as of lately.

This really pissed me off today! I saw a video of ken changes for v2012 and they took the time to make sure they got his target combo to work properly and he can even delay it and they still can’t get guys right. That just goes to show u how much they really care about guy (lower tier) who needs everything he has to work properly in order for him to win, and ken (top tier) who has all the tools to win even without that target combo working properly. Let’s face it fellas, capcom don’t give a sh!t about guy being relevant. They just threw him in the mix to for the fcuk of it! We should start tweeting Ono non stop about this! Make him so sick of hearing about this that he has to do something about it!

That we could, or Pedro can just take a visit to Ono… :stuck_out_tongue:

hey if any of you guys want to play guy vs guy or so let me know and we can get some games in … i dont know how i feel about the changes… he needs other things… i personally would want run stop faster recovery like el fuerte… but thats just me…either way hit me up!

Anyone think lev2 blocked focus attack and down toward Hard kick juggle is killer against dhalsim? I mean in the corner of course. I’ve had a lot of success landing ultra against dhalsim this way. I guess it depends how early/late they tech, but really in the corner Guy can do a lot of damage to Dhalsim, just make sure you don;t lose all your life getting him there.

Man by the time the PC Update comes I’ll be hyping over the new SSX than playing 2012… >>

Happy holidays, Guy fam!

You guys are pretty quiet but to make it interesting I reached B+ with Guy a couple of days ago just forgot to post it.I feel that I have a solid Guy now with all of the training I have been putting in.

Congrats Dante, nice to know he has the potential.

I’m done the opposite, I’ve dropped BP like crazy since AE2012, Ive gone from just about to hit B+ (around 9500bp iirc) right down to 6k at the moment. I have my conspiracy theories as to why I’m dropping bp so fast but I wont bore ye

I honestly feel like Guy is just not going to cut it in AE2012, in super he had the element of surprise and lack of matchup knowledge in his favour, in AE he actually fared pretty well (in my opinion) against the top tiers and was a solid character dispite his supposed low tier rating. Nox, combofiend, Kiryu etc showed what he could do in the right hands.
But Guy in AE12 I’m worried. Really worried. Guy seems… kind of shite to be honest.

His air to ground game is still horribly broken and he still has a horrible time against very defensive play due to his run overhead being stupidly unsafe and easily reacted to.
Hoda, Balrog, Vega, Guile and more all feel ridiculously safe in 2012 and the sudden rise in the amount of Zangiefs, Abels and Hakans is a nightmare considering Guys options against grapplers isnt too hot either.

I might be being a bit negative but I’m honestly thiking about jumping ship and learning a different character as after the hours I’ve put into Guy to be beaten by flat out safe pressure bullshit I think I’ve had enough. I mean, I’ll probably retract all this in a day or two but is anyone else thinking Guy didnt get enough in the transition from AE–to–2012??

Or am I finally being exposed for the gimmicky scrub I am (o_O)

Don’t use gimmicks use more solid gameplay, to be honest Abel vs Guy is not a hard match up, as its basically down to who gets a knockdown first, who’s willing to spend meter on wake up, and who has the better reaction. Abel’s only reversal in that matchup is EX SPD to stop Guy’s Safejump.

Basically to play a good guy you have to be patient and know when to block and to block very well, Vega actually isn’t all that good. But the way people play him is what makes him good at least against some of the cast. Honda is back to his old ways so its back to square one, patience. TONS of it. Guy didn’t get enough I’ll agree, but he still can be tournament viable. His air to ground game just takes some getting used to in terms of when to time attacks. Don’t even bother using Elbow against anyone with a Low profile move or high priority normal, unless on wake up.

Danonino,
I felt really bad for you when I read your post. I mean, it surprises me that you are have had such a bad experience lately with Guy.
You have always been an active member, sharing very good info with us, and to me you’ve always seen like a satisfied Guy player.

I’ll talk about my experience with guy lately, and see if I can cheer you up.
Although I agree with you and Blood when you say Guy didn’t get enough, I seriously don’t think he is worse than AE.
He got many things corrected and mainly his new throw range and his improved walkback speed made him much more viable in difficult matches.
In Super, I used to get bodied a lot, in AE I used to win more than lose for sure, and in 2012 now I have a win rate close to 85%.
Seriously, I don’t want to brag about myself, but I almost never lose anymore. Unless I am fighting another A rank, or a “famous” japanese top player.
But why is this? Is it because of the changes? I would say maybe it is also because of the changes. But that is not the main reason.
The main reason for my improvement was the million hours in the lab, practicing combos, links, timing, hit confirm, and the many many fights I lost because of bad habits and for relying on gimmicks. I mean, I didn’t give up. Writing the tutorial here also made me practice Guy’s basics like crazy, changing my playstyle to a safer Guy. And also, working on matchups has helped me a lot. I do a lot better against characters I used to hate now, after I practiced and practiced option selects and options in battle. I still suck against Ibuki though.
Anyways, what I wanted to say is don’t give up man. Losing is the best way to know where to improve, and practice makes perfection.
I am not saying I am any kind of master, either that I am better than you, I am just saying that we all have gone through that pain. And I think I’ve said this before in another post, it is exactly because of that pain, that struggle we have to go through in order to win, that we play Guy. I think everybody that plays Guy, likes challenge, likes to improve his skills. If you wanted easy you wouldn’t even be here on this forum. You would be playing Ryu on easy mode versus the computer.
I still dream of being the best Guy in the world. And I won’t give up on that anytime soon.
These last months I got to almost 16000 BP (A rank) and 4600 PP, and I am pretty sure I can get to A+ rank until before half this year.
I mean, I have many things to correct and lots of room for improvement, we all have, but that’s what’s fun about it isn’t it?
When it comes to a higher level, this game is like going to the gym, you have to practice in a organized way, go through pain everyday, work on your worst muscles more than your good muscles and keep your head up never giving up, keeping up with your routine.
If you stopped enjoying that, than maybe you should really stop Guy.
Just saying man, think about it.
Cheers and lots of Guinness

awesome article about playing street fighter. Any serious player should read.

I was pretty frustrated when I wrote the post to be honest, I’ll try reply as soon as I have more time (just rushing out the door now) but I gotta say you should look into becoming a motivational speaker

Is this really for 2012?..does kiryu feel twins/fei are such a bad matchup for guy even after all the nerfs? 7-3 seems a bit extreme to me …

Also he has mentioned Yun as 8-2 in the link you posted
