Have you modded the stick already? I mean, have you swapped the stock stuff for Sanwa buttons/ jlf stick or anything? If not, definitely do that, you will notice a HUGE difference.
I haven’t used the octagonal gate, but I can tell you for sure, once you get used to it square gate is the stuff of champions. It’s easier to find where to end your DPs/ FBs etc, which is very important when this game can misread your inputs on occasion.
Also know that Ultras can be done d,f,d,f+ppp. You can omit the df’s!
cool man thanx 4 the advice. ill definately try your way of performing the ultra! no i havent moded it yet. in fact this will b my 1st attempt once i order the parts. http://www.lizardlick.com/pages/joysticks.shtml is the link for the stick i plan 2 get. its the Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK Ball Handle Joystick, 4 & 8-Way Adjustable. its seems super compatiable and perfect for a nOOb like me to attempt his 1st mod. its shipped set for 8 way operation already. i just kinda want some input on wat peeps think of the octogon gate vs square since i will have both available once i order the stick. as 4 the buttons ill b goin with the sanwa buttons they recomend for the SE stick http://www.lizardlick.com/pages/pushbuttons.shtml . (Sanwa OBSF-30 Pushbutton)
Square and octagonal is one of those personal type of things. the mechanical difference for octagonal vs square is that distance of diagonal from the middle is same as distance from middle to up down left right. Some people have said that this works out better for them because motions such as shoryukens or shoryuken focus dash cancel ultra is easier. Congrats on your first mod btw. I’m sure it’ll pay off. btw I sent you a pm.
I say spend the extra 5 bucks and order an octagonal gate. Since the JLF comes with a square attached and since this is your first stick, at least it will give you a chance to try both out.
I really thought I would love a circular gate for my JLW so I ordered that and put it in right away, never tried the square gate. Ultras, supers and hadokens were super easy but srks, jumping forward and blocking low were almost impossible. Used it for 2 months and was the first stick I used.
About 2 months ago I tried my friend’s SE stick and the square gate felt sooo nice. Went home, swapped it in and now SRKs and blocking/jumping are so much easier, hadokens have not suffered much but my ultra has unfortunately.
I’m still happy I spent the extra $5 for the circular gate, even though I like the square better I’m glad I got to try the circular and get some practice on it.
Random question 1 : Can the mods sticky an XBL/PSN ken players only gamertags sign up for this forum i think it will stop people asking to spar and shit plus i want to see the list of names if they did and i sound dumb for not searching then 4get it
Random question 2 : I played this guy julian from philly who the fuck is that guy my friend said he was like one of the best street fighter people he fuckin destroys me but i never knew about him
hey guys I realize there could be a degree of opinion in the answer to this question but i would like to know what Ken’s Flashiest combo is. Damage isn’t too important, im mainly looking for some creativity, many hits in the combo, lots or all of the EX bars used, and the ultra at the end is a must. Also if you’d like to mention one for in corner and one for out of corner id appreciate it.
OK, so this is kind of frustrating me. I usually do strings like these (all after a crossup)
cr.jab, cr.short, cr.jab, cr.forward xx hadoken
cr.jab, cr.jab, cr.jab, cr.forward xx hadoken
cr.jab, st.jab, cr.strong, cr.forward xx hadoken
Just wondering about the last one, if the opp is crouching will the st.jab always whiff or will it hit sometimes, I’ve seen both results randomly, still curious
Also, regarding block string mixups, is it a good idea to associate certain strings with certain follow ups, for example, if I was to do cr.jab, cr.jab, then throw, then next time to cr.short, cr.jab, throw, would this throw the opp. off? What kind of mixups is there? What are the most reliable strings cause I find myself using the same ones and I keep getting reversal SRKed through my strings. That’s annoying
How do you ultra after a mp.dp? Does it require a FADC? I’ve read you don’t have to. Perhaps corner only?
Is there any easier way to cancel a srk into super? I know you can buffer it, but what do the inputs look like for this? For now, I’m too slow to do a full srk motion and then a full super motion.
s. jab hits about 50% of the characters when they are crouching I think. Any character with a larger hit box will be hit, and most characters it will hit if you are very close. It is very unreliable when your opponent is crouching, so unless you know for sure which characters it works on and which it doesn’t, I wouldn’t risk it. I am pretty sure there is a list of this in the thread that discusses Ken’s moveset.
As for the mix-up question, I would say change the number of jabs/ shorts. If you start with one jab next time do three shorts. Also if it isn’t working, just do something else. Finish your block strings or something, throw out some pokes. Try not to rely on any one thing, that is what makes a good mix-up game.
Cool list, one thing I noticed though is that sometimes the crouch hit versus block animation changes things. For example, you can totally hit crouching Boxer with standing jab, but you can’t extend a combo with it, as in you can hit him in block animation and idle animation, but he ducks too much in crouching animation and it whiffs.
