Ken General Thread: Go with the Flow

Here’s something interesting to know.
First hitbox of roundhouse will actually whiff on crouchers that aren’t large like Birdie or Zangief.
Meaning that if the opponent crouches first, then reacts to the overhead by stand blocking at the right time, then overhead can be -3 in some situations, making it safer.

so SFV WSO release party happening soon with the full version apparently

10 bux says Ken will be fighting in a wheelchair , lel

I…don’t think it’ll work that way. In order for that to work they’d have to be crouching on the frame that the first hitbox is active and then stand up on the next frame. With how slow f.hk is they’ll be standing when the first hitbox connects anyway so it’ll almost always be -4.

Yes, exactly

Depends how badly you want your dick sucked.

EDIT**
Oh, okay…just saw the posts about the launch party in London. The only thing is that the Ken players over here in the UK are few and far between, maybe if Hart is there he’ll try him. You guys will probably end up seeing Logan-sama playing Ken and as nice of a guy as he is, his Ken ability won’t make your jaw drop any time soon. I’ll just happily wait for full release and tune in for shits and gigs. If Ken is stronger than he was in beta 4 I already think we have a fantastic character in the making, beta 4 Ken was good enough for me to use and I think he sat firmly in the mid/upper-mid section of the roster.

So where is this information coming from that hes better in the final version is it reliable?

Also Logan makes Ken look like Dhalsim the way hes just standing across the screen pressing a button once every 6 seconds still cool hes using ken though.

Also what are people’s thoughts on lp.srk and not being able to build meter while evading fireballs anymore.

I think it was just people poking fun, I don’t see how anybody would get anything concrete yet without an early copy. And yeah Logan doesn’t particularly excite me with his SFV Ken yet, personally I don’t think he likes the character at all and is just playing for loyalty points.

What about LP.SRK? I barely used it unless I was in V-Trigger.

Thats my point lp.srk does not seem to have much use no juggles either it has always been a good weapon in Kens arsenal up until sfv.

You can probably do some cool combos with it near the corner maybe, and you’ll always have double DP anti-airs if you catch a jump early. It had similar utilities in 3rd Strike but now there isn’t a parry to worry about.

It’s all about instilling fear into your opponents.

You are my idol now…

Well, LP SRK is 3f, u might be able to use it to punish certain things like Necalli’s Axe Kick or Bison’s SK. It still does more damage than LK Tatsu, no?
Also, u might be able to get a certain setup or safe jump, like in SFIV, who knows.
It’s definitely not as useful as in SFIV tho, but same can be said about the other reversal characters in this game.

It does juggle in V-Trigger. You just need to launch the opponent before the DP to make sure they are high enough.

I was a big fan of shimmy st.hp in beta 4, hitting it feels so damn good. Still, it’s a lot of guesswork and can lead to you getting bodied if you mess up which is why I still say it’s a “sink or swim” strategy, for instance frame trap SRK’s into V-Trigger on block will just lead to a massive punish.

However I think this video is a shining example of how to play “New Ken.”

While it is a risky move, solid conditioning can make people scared to press buttons, don’t think to press buttons, or press buttons.

And that’s when you react accordingly.

P.S I wonder if you can use run to punish and AA from further ranges. I.E fb from 3/4s screen > run if the opponent jumps> mp.dp/cr.hp/st.mk (run cancel the normal if they hit clean for added fun and mixups)

You aren’t reacting to it though, you’re making educated guesses which doesn’t lend towards a “solid” strategy if you have no escape option from the commitment. I really liked everything but the frame trap > SRK > V-Trigger isn’t a viable tactic to anyone who knows the frame disadvantage.

However the shimmying and general delayed strings seems to be the way to go when you’re conditioning, it’s just really hard to confirm anything outside of st.hp on hit, st.lk just serves to make them scared of a throw attempt or catch early button presses.

Oh and btw guys that’s not me playing. Clear that air

I found b. MP a bit more reliable for the shimmy. 9f startup and you kinda have to hit the right timing and can get mashed out easier if they don’t go for throw, but instead press buttons. b. MP doesn’t seem to be as easy to throw out either. st. FP about half the time I went for it I got thrown though had I not a pressed a button there is NO way they would have been able throw me. Seemed more straightforward and safe to do b. MP.

That guy was playing mad solid though, for sure.

Man, gonna be really annoying studying how to fight Ken, he kinda reminds me of Guy. I’ll have to know the exact frame data of everyone of his attacks cancelled into run cancelled into another attack. That way I can know when it’s best to block or when it’s best to counterpoke him out of the run. At least that’s my thoughts.

Is that how it works?

You are no longer my idol now lmao
