Ken General Thread: Go with the Flow

They do. My one big worry is that you have to counterpoke low profile crouching forwards with your short or forward yourself and those aren’t particularly great buttons. You can buffer them into EX Tatsu though, but doesn’t that tend to whiff far away?

Only if they’re crouching. I tagged a Karin st.mk from max range with cr.mp and the EX Tatsu still comboed. If you tag, say, max range cr.mk, then the EX Tatsu whiffs.

Resorting to the whiff punish only strategy is what you do when your buttons are inferior. If your buttons were purely better you’d be bullying with them. At least that is part of what to me describes a good long reaching poke. Ken is going to have to resort to buffered pokes and dashes. Hopefully that stays an effective strategy.

Likely try to beat crouching buttons with st. MP and sweep if they low profile, cr. MP for st. MK’s and stuff like that. Least that was my game plan that was working OK though I still can do a lot more work figuring it out for sure.

Which is why I said every button EXCEPT b+MP :stuck_out_tongue:
U do his TC with b+MP, which has 4f startup and beats 3f jabs. Every other medium or heavy button of Ken will lose.

Except it’s a viable strategy when the reward for doing so is huge. A lot of times as Akuma in SF4 I had to resort to being conservative with my button presses because I simply got out buttoned. The thing is though, I only needed to land that one sweep and I was ready to get rolling. It only sucks when you get less off of it than the opponent is getting, but if the reward for a successful counter poke is pretty good then there is little wrong with it.

Ken I feel is much the same way. Most of his buttons are pretty good at counter poking and with his set of specials and V-moves you can convert a single solid hit into pressure.

I feel like st.HK xx Stepkick should be a thing.
Would give him a viable way to build meter without giving up too much damage.

Well glad you guys are being reasonable here, after playing beta 2 and winning 19 out of 20 matches with Ken, I felt he got the nerf stick pretty hard. The joy of beta 2 ken hmmm…

No, but when he fought Poongko and he did a spiral arrow on block after doing a move that was +2 on block (hooligan low) and gave Momochi the win he said some sort of ‘baka’ :something: so from my cursory watching of anime I know he called him some sort of stupid or idiot. Which literally made me laugh out lout when watching the stream.

To be fair outside cr. LK x2->DP almost everything works in that video still. Only difference is you have to st. FP->LK Tatsu without the cr. LP now.

Is there a way to make lk tatsu cross up on the ground or is it only mk tatsu that works?

gamertag was SkilledZero, we had 3 matches and i think i lost all but i took some rounds was pretty fun

MK only as far as we know. If someone has an LK tatsu setup or if it is even possible no one has posted that up in here. Frankly I don’t even think it has a backwards hitbox to crossup with but I’d need to double check that.

Was Ken still able to combo anything off a st.HP xx Run other than a LP Shoryu link? I didn’t experiment much during my short time with him in the last beta

St.hp>run>lk.tatsu works

I like 5hp>run>2lp instead. It was A super safe option

Give it a week and I doubt you will almost never drop a combo in this game again.
