Ken General Thread: Go with the Flow

His eyebrows are comically thick and there is something wrong with his cheeks as well. As for best looking 3D Ken, you might be right but the bar was set so very low…

Not sure what you’re talking about. I think his model fits his Alpha look nearly perfectly. I love it.

The thick eyebrows have been there since SF2 and his face looks pretty damn good now to be fair, I’m not a fan of the feet/ankles, something seems off around that area.

Watching the video I didn’t think the model for the alt looked that good, but after downloading the patch and seeing it firsthand I think it looks fine.

Did anyone find any good tech to mixup someone doing a back roll tech? I have found a few things from a MK tatsu against quick rise and after LP DP in the corner but I have ran out of ideas on how to do anything against a back roll. As of now it seems to be a free way out of any ambiguous mixup. He has a few ways to setup his MK tatsu crossup though in the corner against normal quick rise though.

HK Tatsu puts you in a position to cover all tech options which is why I always ended my combos in that unless I was in V-Trigger (DAMAGE!!!) or was in a situation where getting the target combo was impossible.

I was just doing HK Tatsu, foward dash.

Meant for a hard to block mixup or safe jump, not just a meaty or throw mixup.

  1. After FP->Run Cancel->cr. LP-> MK Tatsu you can jump forward and if they tech in place you can press MK for a crossup or RH to stay in front. If they crouch the j.RH won’t hit unless you move back a pixel. j.MK will cover them crouching. j.MK also was beating out Karin’s reversal because she attacks the wrong way.
  2. In the corner TC ->LP DP and if your in V-trigger TC->LP DP->FP DP you can immediately go into a MK tatsu and you’ll crossup for a DP or Super.

Don’t think he has any safe jumps or anything like that. Other then the MK Tatsu hitting in a way where if they reversal they will go the wrong way I couldn’t get any reversals to whiff. The landing lag is just to high and he is to high in the air after jumping immediately after all of his knockdown moves. Man they really need to cut down the landing lag.

For empty buffering off st. LK it is easiest by doing 236 LK~FP for fireball or 236LK~3 LP+MP for ex srk. Only way I could do it consistently without getting the buffered move to come out. Mediums and fierces are easy enough to empty buffer specials with still.

Yes, in SF2 Ken and Ryu had very thick eyebrows. In Alpha though, his eyebrows were not thick near the eyes, they were very long and only became thick at the edges. His jaw was also smaller. This face is more similar to 3rd strike Ken with a wider jaw, bigger eyes and thicker eyebrows. While i like Ken’s 3rd Strike portrait the best, those differences really put me off.

Ken still looks weird…Seriously Capcom just base him off my Avatar!!!

Sheesh, and why are the feet/hands/ankles so big? They are supposed to be young and nimble, like SF2: The Animated Movie.

Yea, I wish their models changed a bit more so they actually looked younger. As it is, they’re just dressed like their younger selves without the features to match.

Doing jump oki that pressures both quick rise and back rise is tough because the latter moves them a bunch and is only 2 frames (or whatever tripguard is) slower

Not meaning both. I mean if you make a hard read against back roll only what can you do. Messing with the beta I honestly don’t think you can do anything ambiguous at all even in the corner. All your options either always crossup (j.MK) or never crossup MK tatsu. You don’t have enough time to back walk and space a j.RH for being ambiguous. I don’t think he has a legit mixup against backroll period. You can drop your combo at LK tatsu and if they backroll get a safe jump against Karin, but you’ll get freely DP’d by quick getup. Honestly, feel like there is legitimately no way to mix someone up other then super basic stuff like meaty or throw if they just back tech. I kinda hope they do something like SF3 where you can dash / run through their back roll to punish that teching option with a mixup.

The only way to keep pressure midscreen is after a RH tatsu and if you go for a jump your only options is crossup MK but because of shitty hitbox on it it might just whiff. Only option again is dash -> something.

You can get some Fireball -> st. MK or Fireball->Run->Normal frame traps depending on your spacing but that is the best I’ve found and nothing like that will work after any corner combo I’ve tried.

If you can time a meaty cr. MP and get the extra frame advantage you can do some cool stuff though. Kinda hard to do consistently at the second though.

The great thing about ken is every time you do a fp dragon punch you get the babes. Doesn’t even matter if you win, you just get them automatically. So no matter what you’re a winner.

So I’m guessing that means c.lp is 4 frame now instead of 3 because lp DP does work.

Ken cant do neutral jump ex tatsu anymore either, but that was too good anyways especially vs shotos…just neutral and react ex tatsu on fb

Sounds like fair adjustments to me. Sucks that he loses those run combos though. This would mean he can no longer link cr.lp from run after a CC st.hk. Unless they’ve buffed the hit stun of st.hk.

God, why are they just sucking the life out of any character that’s any bit fun at all?

I want every character to be RIDICULOUS.
