So I’m in between sticks right now, and made the mistake of playing good/better players online last night. Man, Ken on pad is rough- kara throws required a bit of an adjustment, and FB>FADC>U2 isn’t happening.
Any good deals on sticks right now? (since Madcatz discounts during majors always happen when I don’t have money )
I was playing vanilla last weekend and man Kens cr.mk was Amazing! My friend was playing with Ryu and i was actually out poking him with it. I kept stuffing Ryus cr.mk with Kens cr.mk i had no idea how badly Kens cr.mk was nerfed since Vanilla.
It’s garbage for Ken, cr.mk xx hado is free focus dash throw/dp, which is why his 4 frame start up was real nice, but then cutting the active frames blow since ken doesn’t have normals that are active for very long. Not only did they remove 2 frames of active tho but they added 2 more recovery too, and they pushed his hurt box up in front of the hit box, and ryu had his hurt box moved back for the final build.
But when you talk about Kens nerfs all the other players scream bloody murder ; )
It was the way they scripted his cr.MK. In the PC files there are three files in there… One is used in Super, one is used on AE and the other one was unused it was called 2MkNEW. The unused one had 4 active frames on it. Which leads me to believe they intended to change it to that but never did :-/
So the script for Ken is still reading his AE cr.MK
People attack when Ken buffs are mentioned because he didn’t get ANY unique nerfs from AE2012 to Ultra. Its all System changes. The “this hurts Ken more than other characters” argument is incredibly lame. How often do you see Ryu SRK > FADC > U1? Far more often than Ken. Otherwise Ken only received buffs.
Players are going to have to make better reads and use cr.MK to Tatsu with any shoto since red focus is in the game.
I know Ryu overall had the better cr.Mk because he has better follow up with hadoken/ex hadoken etc and 1 extra active frame… But when it came to just pure pokes i swear i was out poking him with Kens cr.mk. So i went to training mode and tested both Ken and Ryus cr.mk from close and max distance. From close Ken obviously won because he had the faster start up but even from further distances Ken won most of the time and at max distance Ken kept beating Ryus cr.MK
From far distance start up doesn’t matter because in ae2012 Ryus cr.mk beats Kens, but in Vanilla Ken beats Ryu. I tested this couple of days ago on both versions. Thats why i was so surprised how good Kens cr.mk was in Vanilla because normally i try to beat Ryus cr.mk with Kens st.HK or whiff punish with step kick and follow up with a mix up. But in vanilla i was just throwing out Kens cr.mk brainlessly it was so easy lol
Oh and that 240 ex DP! Every time i land that move i felt like i was ripping my opponents intestines open.
And its all not going to matter now because Ultra Ken’s cr.MK is way better… A cr.MK that’s +2 on hit and -1 on block (they reduced the recovery by 3 frames and increased the hitstun) total frame count is 19… Holy crap. I wonder if they increased the hitstun and blockstun to make it a true blockstring at close range to fireball
His sweep has 19 frames of recovery And he can FADC the second hit on his SRK.
