Ken G'eneral Discussion Thread (Frame Data, Techniques, Combos, and etc.)

Yeah I know about the wake up differences of each char. But against Adon for example, I have a safe jump that you get a kara throw, do a tiny step back, wiff stand MP, and j.LK, and when I do it after a normal throw it doesnt work. Maybe I’m missing the timing or something, but Im really starting to think that you get different spacing after kara and normal throw. But I will try hard again this setup later when I get home and let’s see what I get.

Talking about Adon, I think Adon and DJ are the most hard chars to apply a safe jumps using Ken. I just never saw a Ken performing a safe cross up on DJ. If there’s a setup I would like to see. And Adon even he’s having a 5 frames uppercut a lot of setups just dont work against him, its so common to see Adons online doing wake up rising jaguar kick against Ken players and actually hitting it a lot. Because of that I’ve been researching (a lot) ways to jump at him after a kara throw, spending so much time in the lab against Adon and this is the kind of thing that makes me upset about this game sometimes, some chars just have automatic things, like safe jumps, and with Ken you have to calculate ever jump in you do, and when you dont need to, there’s an easy escape for the opponent (cough… dashing under… cough). Adon for instance, yesterday I spent 20 minutes in the lab playing with him and a found a lot of safe jumps so easy to do, almost automatic. Using normal throw and back throw. Working against a lot of chars in the game. Not to mention the ambiguous and unblockables he has. If you like to play Ken you really have to push harder in some things that others have guaranteed. Its really awful.

That it is not a true safe jump, he can hit you by a auto corrected uppercut… you should land in the startup frames of uppercut to be a really safe jump… You can, cause you only need 4 frames to land (3 on neutral jump) and the fastest move for Adon is 5 frames but your setup is not correct.

No man, my safe jump works very well, you’re mistaken. I put a lot work on it and tested it today again. Just made a video, sorry I didnt edit it. But I did try to make it very clean. I think I’ve covered almost all Adon’s good wake up options. Didnt put ultras, supers or just walk or jump cause these thing as you can see wont work. He beraly has time to perform a focus BD. Its a very short window time to react. Block is his best option. All his reversals get stuffed. He cant dash under or BD too. And if he block crouching in the opposite way that Ken is at moment he throws, I dont know how, but Ken forces him to stand. Other important thing, I dont know if Adon has any normal move that makes him smaller like c.MK for shotos, I didnt test it too.

But as I said before it doesnt work the same way if you do a normal throw. You have to time it differently, I didnt record it, my bad. But I really think that Ken stays a little bit further when you get a kara throw. But if it is true I dont know how to prove it hahah.

I know Ken’s HP SRK > FADC > U2 isn’t worth it because it does like 166 damage but I was playing around with several characters in training and found that it does 253 on Cody and 240 on Oni.

I believe most people use U2 on these match ups anyway so I thought I would share.

Bon uses it to push people to the corner too … I think its a godlike tactic.

Ok, im confused… How do you fadc into full animation ultra 1 with ken? I just get the second half no matter how long i seem to be waiting… I could have sworn i saw several players do it at socal regionals this year (2013)

Hello! First post. (Hoping this is the appropriate thread for it) Can someone suggest some pro Ken players who I can stalk/analyze/Idolize? I’m looking for those who can pull off a succesfully aggresive Ken. I refuse to play my shoto like Daigo for example, as effective and impressive as it may be at times to have such flawless defense, it leaves me feeling well…bored… to approach the game like that.

My personal favourite has to be MOV, he plays a unique Ken, not the best out there (I think he can be if he gives it enough attention) but definitely most entertaining for me.

how did i forget ! Mov is godlike and I agree with you .
I just think he lacks lots of matchup knowledge So its not a gd Idea to learn his play style if ur just starting to play ken .

MOV does play a wild Ken! its awesome to watch that dude work. Granted, the greater half of the fights i could find were losses for him(and some crap commentary, wtf!?)
