Karin General Thread: Elegant offense for a more civilized age

She can combo into her v-skill with her launcher.

That and crush counter builds 1/4 of V-gauge. Her st. HK is pretty good to fish for it with, but I don’t know how many moves can punish it if it gets blocked. I know Ken’s EX DP punishes it.

lol if you haven’t figured out that all characters without fireballs have better normals than characters with fireballs… Then I really don’t know what to tell you. Kens cr.mk is decent in that he can use it in a mixup fashion. It isn’t going to be winning any footsies wars anytime soon… But I really don’t think that’s it’s purpose.

s.HK. On crush counter you get half a bar. She only needs 2 bars of course. Even if you only land one crush counter that will get you to a V Trigger much earlier in the match than relying on V Skill.

Funny enough, either way this character is strong enough ATM where I feel she can win vs most characters without using V Trigger for anything other than combo starting/extension once a round.

I think Ken players just have to cope with the idea that Capcom wants him to play a lot more aggressively and with different normals than his c.MK.

Nothing really noteworthy. Just an initial approach towards Karin.

I really like her normal moves. Seems like an extremely solid character (though this had been demonstrated numerous times already).
Having quite a bit of fun here.

I agree. That’s what I was getting at-- she feels complete. She’s layered and has a satisfying amount of options on offense and defense; Like a character should be, right?. But who else in SFV is like that? Bison? Maybe Vega? People are going to cry “foul play” when they realize that Karin has “too much” in comparison to their own character(s).

I realize that Karin being good makes a lot of sense, considering this is her first appearance in forever AND due to how popular she is. The same way it makes sense for Lili to be good in every Tekken game; they help move units. But I’m wary that since the game is still in development, it’ll be all too easy to tone her down --or, “Normalize” her accordingly-- than to outright revamp the rest of the cast to make them feel more prepared to compete with her, Bison, and Vega.

And I’m laughing at all the people who think she’s bland. 'Cause that’s exactly what they said about Viper early on, before her tools got figured out.

I think Chun Li feels pretty complete also. Her V Trigger I also think is one of the best.

LOL youre such an idiot. “Because a character is complete theres no reason to balance it” Thats your logic?? Quit playing fighting games cause you’re clearly retarded.

shes just a gimmicky little whore. She has terrible range on all her normals. Everyones falling on the hype of a new character which is pretty sad.

So has anyone else noticed that the first and second hits of RP are not a true block string?

I had a ken dummy set to lp dp on guard recovery and he kept getting hit by the second hit while trying to DP between them. Didn’t try setting him to EX DP but that probably would beat out the second hit. If the first hit is not overhead, like someone else said, then RP is pretty unsafe raw. It would still be good to go over fireballs and such.

I find myself fishing for CC hits off hk a lot. At a certain range it is really good for that, and reasonably hard to punish on block. Not sure about being whiff punished though.

People cry and demand Karin…they get Karin…then cry she’s too good?

You people make me sick.
Fact of the matter is, is that she utilizes the systems mechanics quite well while other characters don’t.

Rashid is actually quite interesting and will take longer to flush out then a few beta test days. I will say his damage is a little lacking, but anyone walking around as a self-proclaimed wandering hero should be weak. That’s why he has a scouter to begin with…

Random shit I found.

Charged V Skill is safe on block and builds a bit of V Gauge on block as well. Use this while fishing for s.HK crush counter to build gauge faster (only slightly negative like 1 or 2 block).

First part of rekkas absorbs projectiles (only cancels one hit of a fireball, 2nd/other hits of fireaball will hit).

I don’t really have time to search the whole thread, but what’s so good about Karin’s V-Trigger? I hear it get talked up a lot, but all I do is just hold d/b, watch for the hop and if she does an elbow, prepare for crossup. The mixups are telegraphed and very reactable to me. Is it a really good combo extender or something?

From my experience… Can cancel normals and extend a combo and in theory can cause a lot of whiffs with the backlash (I haven’t had much utility out of it though) also the first hit is pretty favorable, I’ve stuff rashids v trigger and a bunch of other stuffs I can’t remember.

But you are right, there has been times I just pop it for the cancel properties on CC. Decent combo ended as well

Apparently all u ahve to do is jump around pressing HK and you’ll beat anything that anyone in the game can throw at you. This is so fucking typical they make a super OP character because that fucking faggot ono likes said character.

Fucking morons at capcom

Like any V Trigger on a basic standpoint it allows you to cancel all of your normals to start a combo or pressure with the VTC. Max range for first part of rekka seems safe on block other than against certain fast supers, so well spaced it can cover a lot of options. Most people are using the first part of the rekka way too close to people which is getting them punished. The full rekka chain into body blow (d+P, d+P) is really good for juggles and repositioning. If you go for the rekka too close to the opponent you can always K rekka backdash out and punish their punish attempt with c.MK as whiff punish. The idea is to condition people with the basic function of the rekkas first, then as they are sleeping afraid to punish go for the overhead, low, jump grab, cross up stuff. If you haven’t stopped them from trying to press buttons against the rekkas they’re just going to do it which stops the mix up.

Basic options are

1.Max range first rekka (safe against most stuff other than quick supers)
2. Closer range rekka into punch follow up (combos on hit, counter hits people trying to punish the first rekka with mash jab or other pokes).
3. Closer range rekka into K rekka backdash. Use this when you are afraid the opponent will block down the entirety of number 2 to reposition for c.MK or c.MK into just frame launch (c.MK, qcf+K~P) for safety.
4. Closer range rekka into d+P follow up then mix up with options for overhead/low/jump grab/cross up. Only go for this after lots of conditioning with previous options.

I just cant get over how stupid this character is. Her whole game is mashing buttons and a crouching fierce kick that hits half way across the screen. I’m losing to people who do this and nothing else as well as beating people with this tactic. I havent landed a single combo with her in any of the matches i’ve won. Its fucking infuriating

I just realised that using the v-skill doesn’t build you any regular meter. I feel like i want super more than i do v-trigger most of the time. Ending the juggle with qcf+K~P again nets you around 20% more of an ex bar than ending with v-skill does.

c.MP, s.MP xx qcb+LP~d.K seems to net you the most amount of meter bnb wise.

Don’t think I’ve heard anyone else talking about it but her Crush counter combos into V-skill at most ranges and seems like her most optimal meter builder. Gives about 75% of a stock.

I agree that her Rekkas seem unimpressive but I’m working with them were I can. They work okay online for now but I can’t imagine that will last very long. I’m starting to work her Reversal into my game more to try and see if that feels like a more practical use of the bar. It feels like one of the better reversals, hopefully there’s some potential there.

This. She’s one of the few characters who feels like she has enough tools to play her in multiple ways. She has enough tools to rushdown, but can also play footsies. The only other character who felt like this was Cammy (who was arguably the best character in the first beta).

Making the rest of the cast be more “complete” like this should be the priority.
