Man who you telling, straight nail bitters. SF servers game homie the run back like 30 minutes later and he capped the win on a time out… I literally thought I had life lead thats how close it was lol
I LOVE playing mika vs mika, it’s like a scramble from the second the announcer says go. All yomi as soon as one of you touches the other. Good stuff. Both of you trying to train the other.
I was having good luck with c.HP. Which is interesting because she really reminds me of Nina from sfxt. (though a bit heavier execution wise) and that was also Nina’s best anti air. So I felt relatively at home playing the character. That said I don’t think ill be picking her up. I feel she is a bit too execution heavy for me, my fingers have to be heavily trained to do what id need to with her. And then muscle memory kicks in at the worst times. But karin gets so many style points that I have to at least play her when im feeling myself and want to show off.
Hmm, i cant really find anything to combo with after whiff punish s.HK xx VT. The only thing i can get to combo is qcf+KK~P and super and both use meter.
God, rekkas seem just as bad as feared. the d.P followup doesn’t frametrap and the backstep leaves you just outside sweep range, so you have to walk in slightly and sweep which seems like it leaves enough time for the jab to recover. I cant see anything that can just beat c.LP to stop the rekka except following through on either slide or palm ender, but of which are unsafe as shit.
Rekkas gonna relegated to combo and whiff punish status only.
If you do qcb+P into the slide followup, if automatically sets up for a charged v-skill if they back tech and eaves you at +1 i wanna say. If you connect CH c.LP you can link to s.MP xx qcf+HK (you are out of range for c.MP to hit).
I was in training mode for about 3 hours and didn’t get a single match-- that’s exactly what I was hoping for too. Picked apart her movelist and found necessary punishes/counters to everything outside of her V-Trigger stuff, to the best of my ability, and I’ve come to a conclusion: Capcom was showing off when they made Karin the way she currently is. I’m impressed, honestly.
And they did that knowing damn well that they’ll most likely end up nerfing the tights off of her. Sadly. Very sadly. You ask your average SFIV player what they think of Tekken (gameplay wise), and they have almost nothing good to say about it. If they’re honest they’ll tell you it’s too difficult to adjust to. Offense comes after learning how to defend in that game and on defense, you’re almost never safe. Learning how to block effectively in Tekken goes beyond learning the system mechanics-- it’s also heavily dependent on your knowledge of the attack strings of the character(s) you’re squaring off against; and the roster isn’t small.
To put it plainly, it’s overwhelming and unforgiving to someone who (especially coming from a background where downbacking protects you from 90% of what almost any character can throw at you) doesn’t approach the game with a dedicated (and somewhat masochistic) mindset.
While she’s not that extreme by comparison, this is the vibe I’m getting from Karin (I agree with Echelon and DevilJin’s mention of this in the general thread: spot-on). Not only with her branching attack patterns that force you to guess IF you don’t stop her early enough in the sequence (a la Tekken), but also because you can’t downback against this character without eating something that isn’t as telegraphed as a jump-in. You are not safe. Rainbow Palm comes out pretty fast, and that hits overhead. It isn’t doing some piece-of-shit damage either-- it kinda hurts. But dare to stand in her range and you’ll eat everything else that converts from her lows… which hurts even more.
Like I said, I didn’t get any matches so as I usually do, I resorted to playing against the CPU on 8. I decided I would only defend. If I felt like taking the opportunity to punish, I would but other than that, no attacking-- just blocking. And after a while, the only things that could open me up consistently (outside of Guren’s follow-ups which I didn’t practice) were that Rainbow Palm and her f.MK (raw overhead). As much as I didn’t want to stand/shimmy around, I also didn’t want to crouch. And unlike in Tekken, there’s chip damage in SF-- She forces offense. Which fits the overall scheme of what SFV is shaping up to be… but can the other characters keep up with her?
Naturally, when compared to the AI, an adept human player will bring another dimension of difficulty to dealing with what Karin can utilize; especially in a heated match, where nerves may be prevalent. But that only supports my suspicion that she’s currently probably “too” good for the game she’s in. If left alone, she’s going to be running circles around every other character except maybe Vega and Chun-Li (not sure about Bison). And the people using these characters in tournaments are going to get exposed by the right Karin player; Just like Latif did to Daigo, Poongko, Justin, Tokido, and the rest (except Fuudo) in top 8 at EVO 2011, immediately before Viper got nerfed. Despite Viper’s goodies being locked behind an execution barrier.
I’m loving this girl right now, and as much as I want her to stay the way she is, they’re gonna clip her wings. If the game launches with her as is, then Capcom will be forced to break their “promise” to not nerf strong characters, but instead buff the rest of the cast when a balance change is needed. Imagine that-- buffing 17+ characters just because Karin takes her vitamins, drinks her milk, and eats her Wheaties. They’d have to give Ryu DP > V-Trigger-cancel > safety, on block! And if that happened, I would cry.
I don’t think she’ll break the game, but she’s making others look questionable at the moment. She’s playing a different game from the rest. My question is, what will they tone down with her? I’m getting anxious just thinking about it. If Ken’s run and Chun-Li’s V-Triggler-only plasma chucking was a problem in previous builds, then Karin is raising red flags, easily. And if SFIV is any indication, the outcry will prevail. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
She’s easily the most interesting character of the beta. Just some people wrote her off before playing her because rekkas got attached to V Trigger. Just like the people that wrote Vega off because he’s charge even though he’s way more interesting and definitely has a more legit poking and pressure game than IV.
She’s one of the few characters that truly feels like a complete character though. From that perspective, nerfing her makes no sense.
Not that I really disagree with what you said: if you want the angry forumscrubs to shut up, nerfing one character is easier than buffing 15 characters, but buffing those 15 characters is still the route Capcom should be taking here. There’s nothing broken or silly about her yet, she’s just good. I can’t say that about most other characters. So she’s not the problem here, the rest of the cast is.
