Karin Beginners Thread: Oh-hohohoho!

Ok i have a little question. What exactly does her vtrigger do??? I know it gives her an extra special move. But does it changeher properties at all? Extra speed more hitstun? More dmg? It seems like she attacks a little faster but i cannot confirm that its not just my head pretending thats thecase.

Also when you press “focus attack(mp/mk)” and do the v attack or what ever. What does it do exactly? What properties does it have? Im hating this game because it doesnt explain any of this. I also watched a gameplay of jwong playing karin and doing a vcounter… How the fuck do you do that… Again thegame never seemsto tell you about it. I like how they make the game simpler for idiots who cant be bothered to learn combosand shit but dont bother putting in aplace that explains all the vtrigger effects. Like i assume kens vtrigger is not the as ryus and geifs… Some characters dont even get a mode and its just an attack… Its so confusing -.-

This video is from before launch, but it does a good job of answering your questions. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZav20bIYsc&index=2&list=PLpebBoHUpV4_jzN0izyz3jy6KZurUyey1

Her V-skill or what you call focus attack can absorb projectiles, but you almost have to anticipate the project because it moves her forward so much.

Yeah this is my first SF game since SF2 back when I was like 5 so im still learning basic stuff, but this is the character that happened to feel right for me. She seems fun and I like her a lot so far. I do have one question, the move that is back motion punch where she leaps sort of and punches and can be followed up with the low or the grab, how do you get the grab to work? I can do it every time int training mode but every time I try on an actual opponent she doesn’t grab, but like jumps over them. The low will come out every time when I try it after, just not the grab.

the opponent needs to be standing for it to work i believe. if they are not standing karin will go over them. its the same if you do that grab in her v trigger

I’m so bad (((( In training I 9 out of 10 almost all basic combos, but in match that number drops to 2/10, and this is when person not blocking ((
she’s not a noob friendly at all

Hey, if it makes you feel any better, you’re doing better than I am. I’m still having trouble pulling off c.lp, c.lp into lk.mujin or even poking with c.mk into Mujin. Turns out I’m still terrible at fighting games.

Ok, so the salt is on my but you can’t imagine how much…

i finally get this combos in training 70% of the times (200% of the times without the cr.MP):

cr.MP, s.MP xx HKMujinkyaku

cr.MP, s.MP xx qcb+LP > d+K

FINALLY connecting cr.MP and s.MP T_T

but… in real life, my today matches were these:

vs ken: fireball fireball fireball shoryuken some combo, cant do shit, cant get close to do some dmg or combo…

vs ruy ^ same as ken

vs necally: he was always crushcountering me :\

vs karin (2 times): the first time we were more or less at the same lvl, on the second time he was always cr.defense and just doing some light combos… what a boring match

vs fang: this is a joke?

vs cammy: he was always doing some shit, I just defend and do grabs, easy win…

So in overral was: 1W - 6L… What a first day of matches… I’m so salty… I dunno what to thing :\

In normal matches there is no way to do combos, people are 100% time cr.Defend or just playing at long distance. And when i get a MP (cr or s) my mind seems to be in the moon and I just stay here like WTF I GET A HIT!!! OMG! SUCH DMG! :<

T_T so salty…

I was playing Ryu in the beta, Chun Li on release day, and the past two days I played Karin. It felt a lot like Easy Mode for Ryu, Medium for Chun Li, and Insane Mode for Karin, and I’ve never even played Ryu in USF4. When I get close enough for a medium punch it seems to get stuffed by almost everything, it isn’t uncommon for me to play entire matches not being able land it at all. I want to learn to play Karin but I have no idea what her strategy is.

The thing is they are standing, like the punch connects, and they are in hitstun (I think that is what its called) and when I go for the grab, she still hops over them, but if I go for the low instead it always works. I am not sure what I am doing wrong lol

The grab after your rekkas (punches) is not a linked combo, meaning there is a tiny free window between your rekkas and the grab where the opponent is free to perform an action. It’s the same thing as when you regular grab someone when they are in hit stun; it won’t work. You need to wait for the opponent to be out of hit stun to use a normal grab, in this case her V-trigger “combo” automatically waits for the hit stun to end before performing the grab from above, but this gives your opponent a chance to do something in that tiny window. The low will always work due to it not being a grab but an actual combo.

c.mk into Mujin it’s my main tool atm lol
had 8 games yesterday 1 win and 7 losses, 4 of them to the same Vega, the worst thing is that I see why I lost, but I do not see how to solve this atm, only by training hard, I think I need to stick to training+survival modes to practice/warm up before going into ranked

Hi there! Same strike yesterday… Im also lost on how to solve this, because I feel that karin doesnt have too much range in the MP, and also doesnt know hot to get close without getting rekt…

As you say we have to train hard, but better to do training + casual that training vs survival because this will only create you bad habits…

st.MK is a good tool in most cases, but it’s not as good against Vega with claws, Chun or Cammy. Also st.HP->Ressenha(LP) is so unsafe, some people can hit you by jab between 1st and 2nd Ressenha hits
Bad habits???

The problem with the st.MK is the hitbox of it, at least for me, ryu and ken LP or MP seems to have more hitbox that karin or at least is what i feel (froom a newbye persepctive), maybe i have to play a lot more and learn to footsies…

About the bad habits, is that all people say about playing arcade mode in sfIV… Dunno about the cpu in the survival…

WHat I simply do is practically do the same quarter circle motion, but with lk and mp double tapped simultaneously . So quarter circle forward + LK&MP, and just tap LK&MP, AGAIN.

So, when you cancel a normal say MP into her JFL, the QCF LK+MP will trigger the input for JFL (the dash part). Kicks have higher input priority, so that’s why it works. Now, you tap those two buttons, again, immediately, like a twitch, and that should take care of the launching portion of the special in microseconds. The reason is because JFL is already activated from the LK, and JFL doesn’t have a kick input for the follow-up and that’s why the game decides to pass the priority to MP regardless if you tapped LK+MP altogether. It requires no effort. It’s as easy as throwing fireballs at that point.

oyyyyyyyy

I think I found my biggest problem…when I fail some movies in casual/ranked match I forget about anything only to land that movie, I hate this part of myself
Training room is good to make mechanical skill, but only in real match, you learn how to play her

Same here, its like my mind just say: hey! cya! >:D

I find its also really good at testingg how good someone is at blocking. Online you can spam that as a day 1 scrub tactic and that shit seems to work.

Tho i have a question because the throw after doesnt seem to grab people crouching… Is the answer to flatout smash it literally just to block high then remain low and the karin player cant follow it up ever safely?? Or is the throw cersion safe if it wiffs? I havnt done any testing and this is only what i noticed from playing vs a friend that learned to block it rather quickly lol
