yo dudes - ok so i wanna try something to bridge the gap between our cliques…
it is VERY obvious that axioms is where its at for the real comp in KC
anyone whos been knows that my place is way more laid back and comes with lower level comp.
now us scrubs could keep mashin it out together but over the past year we’ve seen that it hasnt made us terribly better. i mean ya we lvl up BUT if we had harder opponents, lvl’ing up would come easier.
what im looking for is getting some of you top players to come pwn us noobs and give some pointers. I know the social relations arent exactly there but we all share SF. what im willing to do is crowd control and keep everyone focused on sf, provide drinks, a/c, space, sticks, tvs, surround sound, seats, standing room, different rooms to separate different games or training if you will,… usually we all go out to dinner together and talk games and stategy- shit i would cover the dinner of the guy feeding us pointers.
what i would need from you guys, be open and patient and bring your A game and be willing to explain it. A lot of what we need is generic. Take Roblox for instance. he has a Decent 3s ken/ryu and it translates to sf4 to an extent- he needs to understand the nuances of sf4 to see what makes it so great. this could pretty much be said for me and mine as well. thus it doesnt have to be char specific. also remember- until we prove otherwise- you’ll be the best in the house, so no need to act like a dick. relax, lets have fun and advance right!?
imagine if this were going on and it was Kong and Axiom going at it. i would hope it would be like “john dude, the only reason that you only got one hit on me is because i’m just pushing you in the corner and controlling you. you should try to take back some space to use against me” not saying that Axiom needs that help but i watched that happen 5 or 10 times over on fri night.
would any of you better players be down for that?
ii support the post above, kong especialy knows whats up in this game. The few times iv seen him share knowledge its been good. if you reach even only one player, it would be worth it. plus offering a free meal, ugh we in there!
Rex - some of my personal favorites are Great Teacher Onizuka, Hellsing (both tv series and Ultimate), Trigun.
jspot - this isn’t intended to be snarky, but if you gotta ride herd on people to keep them focused on sf4, maybe they aren’t that interested? Just a thought. Also, a lot of the nuances of sf4 can partially be learned by reading stuff on the boards and watching match vids. What’s weird is that I’m pretty sure you have a decent grasp of the game’s fundamentals, at least on a knowledge level, you should share that with your crew.
In general, my response to people who say “I really like game X/I don’t like sf4, I’m only playing 4 because other people are” is don’t bother playing 4. If you don’t really enjoy it you’re wasting your own time and other people’s too. Give it a chance, sure, but if weeks/months pass and you’re still wishing you were playing 3s or whatever instead, just stop. Yeah fighting games are a social activity and you wanna hang out with your friends, but don’t take up a valuable slot in hookup rotation if you don’t like it. I know Rex doesn’t wanna lose any potential ca~ake but that’s my felling.
I am switching to Sakura so I can get a handle on her first before I tackle Viper again. Need to work on execution with her and become good with her first.
Rex-You might also want to check out Desert Punk(lots of dirty humor), Shigarui(Samurais and gore its awesome)
Yes, I’m down for it. Just do it when I’m available lol.
Nice post Jonathan, but I’m not sure how well I can teach. I think most of your crew’s problems stem from not studying and not learning from their mistakes. They need to start remembering what it is that gets them into trouble in the first place (i.e. jumping in from too far when the other guy has dp + ultra ready to go). Also, practice throw teching and focusing shit on reaction. Once you get that out of the way, start showing them links and other shit to practice.
If you guys feel like you’re not getting anywhere with a certain character, try messing around with the whole cast so you’ll get a better feel for matchups.
It’s not going to happen overnight, but you’ll get better results then just flowcharting all day.
P.S.- Move closer.
i do see what youre saying here and i do share with my crew but even I could use some learning. extra help would be great to speed up the bridging of the gap. as far as reading and vids- those are great and all but theyre missing the actual game play. actually playing and learning as you play really makes you improve faster than just having a good read. at least for me that is.
i gotta say- you are 100% right with this. but i dont honestly think we have anyone that flat out dislikes X or Y game… it just comes down to preference and its like rooting for your favorite team.
g’damn dude, we are usual against eachothers opinion here, but fuck (no homo), when you got a damn good point - you got a fukken point.
i 1/5 of the way get your guys’ argument now-
“Yeah fighting games are a social activity and you wanna hang out with your friends, but don’t take up a valuable slot in hookup rotation if you don’t like it.”

Hey, Minnesota Meltdown is back! Would like to see some KC players there. There is 1.5 months to get things straight.

If the game list looks small to you, it is because MN Street Fighter and NeoGeo.com have had a great relationship for the past few years, and we want to have the competitive aspect, as well as the casual aspect. If you think this is going to be a scrub-fest, because of this, think again. All this means is that there will be resources for other games, such as Rock Band, Metal Slug 1CC run, Geometry Wars, maybe even a mystery tournament. And as anyone that has played MN before, we are solid.
If you don’t see your favorite games, that’s okay, because there will be plenty of side tournaments going on (I am 99% sure that we’ll have side tournaments for ST/STHD, GGXXAC, Twinkle Star Sprites, maybe even SFA2).
Post in the thread if you have any questions.
Wow this regular SE Fightstick sucks. I’ve only used it twice and the B button (medium kick) is already going out on me. Time to invest in some Sanwas…
the stick will likely go out on you too, though not as fast. maybe time to get a sanwa stick too? sanwa stick + sanwa buttons + SE box = TE fightstick …or so i hear
Just to make sure I don’t order the wrong shit, what model Sanwas should I order? I’m considering the bat-top stick and eight-way gate. The buttons I could probably figure out on my own…probably.

Sanwa JLF-TP-8YT-SK Ball Handle Joystick, 4 & 8-Way Adjustable

Sanwa OBSF-30 Pushbutton
Lizard Lick is currently taking like, a month to get parts from though…also bat top is dumb imo
