Kansas City Drinking: We Have a Serious Fighting Game Problem

To the guys who came out the last two days it was a blast hanging out with you all. Felt allot of fun with all the drinking and games that lasted till over 4 in the morning.

Results of the KoF RR is:
1st Samson Keonine
2nd Chadwick Waldrup
3rd Deron Byers
4th Malcolm Strickland
5th Le Nguyen
6th Derek Battiest

Does anyone wanna do RR as a weekly thing? Thoughts?

Do you do anything on Thursdays? Or does anyone have a hookup planned for this coming Thurs.? I have off, and want to play something!!!

the only hookups on lockdown for now are
marvelous mondays
Saturdays at the HoF
NDP Sunday

Tuesdays and Fridays are on hiatus

Alright; I know things have shifted around lately.

Thursdays at Jspots are also on hiatus until Chachi picks the mantel back up.

GGs last night guys, especially to Samson in SF and MGF in Marvel. Oh, and you are welcome for the Mr. Pibb.

I’m lighting the mantel on fire.

Chachitown Fair hookup/AE RR is on for this Thursday.

Address info: 2527 N. 47th Street KCK 66104.
We will be playing in the apartment above the garage. Just go up the steps. and call/knock/kick down the door demanding souls or whatever.

Phone: 913-944-5257. Call/text if you get lost and/or just want to talk dirty.

Parking: It’s a long ass driveway but try to park on the right hand side so people can get in/out. Unless you like driving through the grass, which I don’t mind, but the PD may say something.

I will follow the Rex model and do what I can to stuff the fridge with snacks/drinks/booze/whatever. Feel free to bring setups, sticks, and/or more booze. Pride is optional. Don’t expect fancy accommodations, just expect to get your grind in.

Yo fun hookups this weekend, good games and good job to the people participatin in the RR’s. Also gg’s mgf, my team has a lonnng way to go before I can start beatin you consistently.

but most importantly thank you Chris for bringin the Pibb Xtra. so good

Yeah for the Pibb.

Thanks for the UMVC3 Casuals. I’m going to try out Zero one of these days.

I feel like I need to go to more hookups, to face real offline competition. I’ll see about using more money for that.
But first, I need to buy Blazblue Extend. I will keep doing these FT5s, they are excellent practice.

Hope to see everyone here today. It’s gonna be epic I’m sure. MAXOUT!

Once I get a car, I’d like to join up with you all. Stuck on base at Fort Riley till then, lol. I’ll try and find some of you guys at EVO though, PM me~

yo, you in riley?! i’m in junction city and whodat is also in riley…hit us up!!! i see you run strider point…hmmmmmmmm!

Yeah, I’m in Riley. I suck at UMvC3 though, still soul searching. Main game is SFxT, but I would LOVE to get some more time with the game if I had people to play. PM me your contact info and I’ll send mines.

Yeah I’m actually at Riley as well. Hit me up. I basically play everything.

it’s cool man, gotta start somewhere. we go to wichita and KC, and i also play almost everything.
the wichita biweeklys are this friday, there’s tourneys at AFW fri-sun, and i think a tourney in OK. also.

EDIT: Alright. Maybe I’ll hitch a ride there or what not until I get my own vehicle. I know the basics, but just gotta work on Mahvel in general. Mainly a Tekken/SFxT player, but gonna get into P4U when it releases. Anyways, I’m heading out to EVO on the 5th from Manhattan. You guys leaving earlier?

my bad. i hit the post button on accident. we are leaving on the 5th from wichita

First, I just want to say congrats to Le for another successful tournament. It was good meeting all the new faces at MaxOut. Just wanted to say that I am glad that there is new blood and new life getting breathed into the scene. We just need to make sure that it keeps growing, and nobody gets left behind. Everyone needs to work together to keep the scene alive. Le, Nick, Jesse, Jeremy, Andrew and whoever I am forgetting, it was nice seeing you all again. My job’s schedule right now sucks, and has made it damn near impossible to keep current. I am working hard to change that, though.

I just became an owner/business partner of The Basement Games and Hobbies, and along with my fellow co-owners, we are trying to bring gaming back to KC in a big way. For now, they are focused mainly on Magic the Gathering, Warhammer and other various board games, but they didn’t have the mindset of including video gaming. Or to be more specific, they didn’t include the Fighting Game Community. That is where I came in. I brought it to their attention that there are more gamers out there, and we all want the same thing; to have a place where we can all meet up to game in peace. I want to have a stable place where we can go, with enough room that we aren’t all smelling each others armpits ;). Somewhere we can get hyped without having to worry about disturbing the neighbors, or have to worry about our girlfriends/wifes making us cancel a hookup at the last minute. This is where I need you guys though. We need input from the scene as to what you guys want.

On that note, JSpot and I have decided to start a tournament series called ***K***ansas City ***O***nslaught (K.O.) that we hope will have the support of the scene, as we plan to make it grow into what we hope will be one of the premiere tournament series around. I know it won’t happen overnight, but we want to get like Wednesday Night Fights (WNF), where we have weeklies with high caliber gameplay, and then that will culminate into bigger tournaments on the scale of MWC and higher. I am looking into sponsorship so that we can get extra prizes like sticks and other gaming related items. To do this though, we have to have a good showing at the tournaments, and we need to be consistent.

To start, I will need the support of you guys with setups, ie Monitors and consoles. In the end though, our objective is to have most, if not all of the setups (consoles and monitors) provided by the tournament so that all you will have to bring is your own stick or controller. My reasoning for this is that it provides for a smoother tournament organizationally since all the setups will be provided by us and we will have the minimum amount of setups to run the tournament as efficiently as possible. This also makes it more convenient for participants if the only thing they need to keep track of is their own controller/joystick. The monitors that we are looking to get are Asus monitors that have been proven to be able to hold up to the scrutiny of the Fighting Game community. If you attended MaxOut and played with JSpot at our casual setup for AE, then you saw the Showcase match monitors we plan on using. The model is VK278Q. It is a 27" LED backlit monitor. It features a built in webcam so that we can show the players of the showcase match without having to have extra equipment. The other monitors will be either the VE278Q, or one of the other Asus models with the response time that we need.
