I know, but all of the online advice lacked a discussion of overall strategy. Instead it focused on performing combos and moving with no explanation of why. That’s a kind offer. I will aim for next Friday at your place.
GG’s last night, so much hype. Shout out to Yon for the kindly donation. Yon gotta stop sleepin on john, shit was too close for comfort. Just some quick tidbits i noticed about your gameplay john. You have a good sense of what’s goin on around you and are able to get hits. but it’s capitalizing off those hits into full combos is where you’re lacking. Also when playing against King, call the players bluff and just run full speed at them and ROLL through fireballs. I saw you just get annihilated by fireballs, it’s esp unsafe for king if she’s jumping back and throwing them in the corner. just roll through and go into full combo. to be safe you might wanna confirm into crouch light attacks with your character into combo, so you avoid a throw tech. Even if she does throw out her like pinwheel kick while rushing at her you still have enough time to block, that shit is unsafe and most king players to make it safe will go into her EX crackshoot legs, but even that’s unsafe. So just wait patiently and go in. And when you do get the hit confirm and have the meter to do damage, go into HD. HD is good because of the increased damage, but it’s even more important cuz it puts other players on notice that your execution is on point, and makes them a bit more scared of you, and scared to get hit/command grabbed. I know i said some of this stuff last night but I figured it’d be good to post here so you have a place to look back on it.
Appreciate the tidbits Chad.
I am actually very pleased with my performance from last night. I have had only two real good practice sessions on KOF and a total of about 2-3 hours in practice mode, so I’m pretty happy with my progress so far. Last night was inspiring, and it made me really want to push myself. I LOVE the feeling I get when I’m playing this game. It’s intense, rewarding, heartbreaking, and just so good. I’ll join you guys at the top sooner than later. But until then, I appreciate you breaking me down when I do stupid shit.
Deron, I know you don’t check the FB, so I’ll tell you here, you have a match in KOF with Samson, that needs to be completed by Friday night.
Is anyone gonna update the front page with rankings from maxout? Also what’s the word on the ranking system, we still gonna try something?
Surprise, its been put on the back burner again. Probably my fault mostly but here are our options since people weren’t really into TrueSkill. Elo system, which is like chess. Basically we crunch all the Max Out results from challonge and give people points. The types of matches determine the value of ‘k’. k is the amount of points that your score is allowed to go up or down. It would be something like ft5 challenges are a k of 16, RRs and intermediate tourns (budd park) are a k of 24 and max outs would be a k of 32. That way smaller challenges still have value but half that of an actual tournament.
The second way to do it is to leave as is. If people want to do Elo, I’m gonna need some help doing numbers for the games so this doesnt take forever and then some.
What the fuck are “rankingsssss…”?
first to a million for a billion to everybody for #1 spot in kc
Few things:
-
Might not be able to attend hookups for awhile, like a week or two…various RL things taking priority ATM. The exception is if I have a Budd Park match, I’ll be there to play. A reminder to AxioM Sam and I will be playing our Budd Park match Friday afternoon, but I won’t be at the hookup that night.

I was gonna post a wall of text for this, but the TLDR version is I feel like I’ve gotten a lot better at SF after a vary long time of not making any progress. An attitude change and approaching practice a different way led to this. From when I started coming to hookups pretty casually in 2010 to 2011 I made a little progress but not much and considered quitting the game at various points due to being really disappointed in my performance time and time again (insert Jay Leno zinger about marital sex here). But after getting my shit kicked in at the KC vs STL 5v5 qualifier, I really got my shit together and started practicing a lot. But…

Recording those matches at JSpots Thursday hookup showed that I have a lot of holes in my game still, and I’m not utilizing a lot of setups (both meaty and ambiguous) off forward throw and sweep. Also my execution was off but it might have been the monitor, still I need to brush up my hit confirms into Super.
-
Chachi, I’m genuinely interested in that PVR now that I know what an asset recording my matches is. Next time we both know we’re going to be at a hookup, bring it and I’ll take a look at it and you can teach me how it works because I am bad at computer.
-
AxioM, I’d like to get a 1 on 1 session with you at some point in the future. Over spring break, I was sick with a pretty bad cold and spent most of my time coughing and sneezing and making a mound of tissues in the trash can that would put 15 year old boys in co-ed catholic schools to shame. I’m feeling better now, but my class schedule and current course load I probably won’t be able to do this for awhile. Although it would be for practice, I want to pick your brain about a couple things, mostly about using a notebook for practice. Its an idea I’ve fiddled around for awhile and at one point I had a big document of matchup notes from watching top Japanese Blanka players Taku and TSRAI, but its gone now and I assume I lost it when my hard drive went bad.
-
Samson: also would like to get casual sessions with you at some point, our schedules conflict and we are rarely at the same hookup but next time we are I’d like to get some games in. I’d like your feedback and also to work on the Chun Li matchup.
-
GetThere1Time: Thanks a lot for the Marvel advice, I really appreciate it. The first team I will be testing is Deadpool/Frank/Iron Man as it sounds really appealing and like it would work the best, but if that doesn’t work for whatever reason Deadpool/Iron Man/Doom or some variation of that team in terms of order will be the next team tested.
8.Count Smakula and Focra: Want to get some sessions in with you whenever I can make it to a hookup next.
- If you have the PC version of SSF4 AE 2012 and a GOOD CONNECTION (no wifi you stupid jerks), and want to play me, I’ll be getting a copy of FRAPs soon and this should give us a way to record matches. The beauty here is I’m just FRAPsing the gameplay from recorded matches in the replay channel, so there should be 0 FPS or lag loss that usually is a result of real time play or recording. I have a YouTube channel I can throw the games up afterwards.
That was actually a wall of text, as a reward for reading all of it here is this:

GGs last night. Shoutouts to John and Alex killing esports and SFxT. I’m going to focus more on 2012, and maybe pick up another game or two when I get my new 360 in.
