No, he was saying that everyone has the same lag. Since you were able to adapt to the lag better than Valle, this means you are a better player than Valle…
But I didnt actually adapt to anything. I just played random as fuck and scored some wins. Doing random shit that doesnt make sense isn’t adapting but I guess hitman see’s it that way. I had no ground game whatsoever at the time either. I was a jump happy scrub.
Basically if you want to be good online you have to abuse lag. It’s the best way to play if you want to win online but it makes the game suck. It’s not even fun playing like that. On top of that it will completely destroy your offline game.
Sometimes random shit works offline as well- it just doesn’t work consistently enough to win consistently. Also sometimes it isn’t random, but anticipation. Top players sometimes do a random DP every now and then to keep people honest.
You should not compare arcade to online. Nothing compares to the games running on original hardware reading input states from directly hardwired switches. The time it takes for input states to stablize on original hardware is in the microseconds range.
I just played Alpha 3 offline for the first time in ages today (like actually played someone), and jesus it really is like night and day. I had ‘zero’ trouble with anti-airing everything, and the pace of the game was completely different.
Cody’s corner trap seems to suffer somewhat online, because it’s nowhere near as fast.
Even excellent was nowhere near that responsive.
Seriously, I quit this time.
From now on, if you wanna play A3, give me an IM @ JinBendOver. If you don’t have Mame 0.61 and can’t/won’t play on Excellent, don’t bother.
As for ST. I will still play randoms. That is all
YOU will cave though.
ahh i’m done too. a3 and 3s are local again, i’d rather risk my life and go to oakland like i did today than deal with all the bs online.
0.61 still isn’t close enough to offline imo. besides, there’s nothing funnier than fighting akuma using, crack feens in a game of sf.
“wut de fuk mang dat punch took mi hole lyfe”,
“how u keep dizzying me, NIGGA STOP CHEATING!!!111!”
ggs to everyone who put up with me these past couple years.
I’m getting borderline for A3. I might start playing it on excellent only.
I’ve never played a game where jump-ins became this retarded online. I mean, they get stronger for every game, but it’s just ridiculous in this.
Getting jumped to death by Blanka/Vega/Sagat/‘Gief/Chun’/Birdie/Bison/whatever players is starting to get real old.
I was playing offline, and I was easily able to knock people out of the air with c. MP/c. FP. At worst, I traded. I almost never ever got stuffed.
Even if it felt like I hit the button way way too late, I still fucking traded.
Online, I get stuffed like every single time.
Footsies are totally different too. Cody’s c. FP is much better offline, because it comes out way faster, and people don’t have nearly as much time to react to his hop kicks.
As you guys probably know haven’t played for a while(I’ve only played kyokuji once recently) and am pretty much done myself because I don’t think .61 with excellent is enough and I’ve been busy.
How does LAN run? I’m getting a new modem this week and should be able to run it.
LAN will only work properly on non-emulinker servers, and your pings will have to be pretty close.
Kyokuji> pings will have to be pretty close
Why is that master Kyokuji? Please enlighten your keen trainees.
Well, in my experience, it doesn’t work too well if you’ve got 15ms and the other guy has like 80. You can give your own technical rebuttal if you want, but I doubt Lucky is willing to play anyone anymore than 30ms away from him anyway, and chances are, the only people he’d be playing are the ones who’ve posted in this thread so far.
You’re the same guy who claims that these games are playable at 150ms in non-emulinker servers. If you can do something like A3 VC’s or KoF2k2 BC combos consistently at that ping, I will be very impressed. Maybe it’d playable in a very basic “let’s do a 3 hit jump-in” kind of way, but there’s no way you can get footsies and whatnot to work properly at that ping.
Well, the day before yesterday (same day there was a post about this new server) I played this guy from washington DC. He said he has a descent upload speed but he refused to make a server. Well, I ended up making it. He pinged 210+ms. I told him to find someone in an US server instead but he would not listen. Even if he played in GW, he would have had less delay. He is like…“nobody use kawaks in US.” Well, I had 0 ping with both of us on LAN. We played for about half an hour of mvsc then once the game dropped. I dont know if that was because of the system because he immediately made another game of mshvssf. After 5 minutes he ran away without saying a word. Of course, 210 ms ping + LAN would have meant atleast abont 250 ms delay. Thats 1/4 of a second. I don’t think it affected him much. Because he kept picking easymode and do the same shit over and over again. Worse than some other easy mode scrub I met couple of months ago who was from NY and said he was an “easy mode pro.”
Everything depends I guess. Last night I tried playing garou with this guy who pinged 45 ms on my server. We tried LAN, it went smooth for about a minute and then it started lagging. Then both of us switched to excelent and the same thing happened. We tried good and bad…same shit. Worse than trying to play with eireless dudes. Then I log back into msn and its like he was still on.
I think you should test it out and update your experiances. Its like one of those guys said a3 is unplayable on kaillera. I think that was on this thread. You know, I’ve come across people who can pull off stuff like katobi cancel in a3 with Excelent and 50+ ping. I learned of its existance when this guy did it on me and I was like WTF!
Dammit Slide, why’d you delete your post? You obviously have influence as evidenced by our Kaillera brothers quitting as well. Its time for you to start an anti-Mother Theresa movement, you know, to test your limits
lmao
can’t believe I missed that. for all the technological knowledge that guy has I don’t think he knows how to actually play the games. 15 frame delay not affecting someone much? LOL
Too bad none of you can read.
let me quote myself
yes well, the post is in response to kyokuji saying you think these games are playable at 150ms. they’re not, regardless of whether the guys was good of not, to say it had no effect is dumb. He may have been shit, but now he was shit and under lag.
And so you know the reason people say so and so game is unplayable isn’t because you all of a sudden can’t do moves. a3 for example, kattobi timing’s, otg’s etc are still the same as offline. the problem is you must rely on timing over visual confirmation unlike offline. in addition to that it’s impossible to “react” to stuff because of the delay, seing as vc’s are mostly reactionary things they become a chore to get down. vc’s are become tighter because you almost always have to actviate and attack before the opponent gets into the right area. it’s happened so many times, other guy whiffs move, i activate i want to catch him on the way down. but because i’m used to visual confirmation, i wait till the right (offline) time to attack but because of the delay, they recover and block. that’s the complaint.
you find yourself guessing on everything when you wouldn’t be in reality. “should I srk and hope he attacks while he’s in the air or is he empty jumping/chicken blocking.” offline you could wait till the last second and decide whether to do it or not, that option doesn’t exist offline.
To the average A-shoto, whore or gief player it doesn’t mean shit and you probably won’t even notice it. but when you want to move beyond that, it’s very noticeable, especially when you play good players offline and then play online.
The main problem with playing online is that it turns everything into a big guessing game. Reaction time means jack shit, because everything comes out so late that you’re forced to guess 2 or 3 moves ahead all the time, which is why it’s so difficult to deal with really random players.
It’s not quite as bad on excellent 0.61, but anything else is pretty lame.
A3 just suffers more than most because you’re supposed to use ground normals to anti-air, and the timing is very very specific. The relatively short guard bar means that you can’t just block all of it either. You have to actively counter most of what they do.
Games with chain based combo systems, and dash functions don’t get fucked nearly as bad, because the damage from individual hits tends to be lower, there isn’t the same focus on normals, and you can just back away from jumpers.
