That’s actually very similar to what we are doing. One of the cool things we are doing for fans is creating fan-developed monsters. So we’re taking a break to work with a few of those fans and get their monsters ready for development. This not only gives us assets to show off, but also lets us show exactly what our process is like. All good things for a project which is making claims to full transparency!
Just read about this project now, sounds like something I’d like to back. Looks like it will be a while until it’s fully funded though. One thing that would be cool for future licensed expansions would be to work with Privateer Press and license their Monsterpocalypse line. I may have to back at a level where I can email the development team so I can suggest it officially.
This is why this project is so exciting, because the possibilities are seemingly endless. This is definitely an idea worth looking into.
Backing it costs you nothing, since it’s not going to fund this time around. But backing DOES get you access to the design forums 2-3 months earlier than anyone else, which means you get to vote on the roster, see early concept art, etc.
I look forward to seeing you there.
Campaign is over - we raised just over $35,000!
Official Kaiju Combat forums are now live - come bring some fighting-game perspective to the discussions!
Just saw this article over at Gamasutra.
Hey folks - we’re getting really close to re-launching the Kickstarter.
Looking for any advice / suggestions before we go live again. We’ve been having lots of lively discussions at the official forums, and we’ve started capturing design concepts in the official design wiki. We also have our first 7 original monsters designed between my studio and the fans.

Any thoughts / tips / encouragement would be appreciated! We’re really hoping to make a bigger initial impact this time around.
One of my favorite games growing up was SNK’s King of the Monsters. Never really played these 3D giant monster games though they looked like fun. King of the Monsters was basically a wrestling game with a giant monster aesthetic.
I’ll be honest and say I’m not a big fan of Deadliest Warrior but I hope this project works. My only advice would be to maybe get some of the FGC celebrities like Gootecks and Justin Wong involved. And please don’t load the game up with comeback mechanics and instant kill bs. Thanks.
Whoa, Moratitan looks pretty awesome. Very original design, there.****
Some of the Designs reminded me of Guyver - female model even? Don’t even know if Guyver did that!
& also Phantasy Star Online’s Ruins/Dark series enemies like a Dark Bringer.
It might be back burner priority to redesign that wiki page to be more flashy, or at least cleaner than the mismatched pastel colors and rearrange info to get to things faster, but its just a thought there on that front.
Also remember King of the Monsters pretty well having it for SNES. Which was also an Arcade Game and had some sequels. Here’s a retrospective:

It’s funny. KOTM2 on Genesis was an actual decent fighter and a complete 180 compared to the arcade version. The arcade KOTM2 had some good ideas but the whole thing was pretty badly executed. I also played KOTM1 on SNES and loved the fuck out of it. Blew my mind that there was another monster I didn’t know about on the arcade version.
I think my favourite’s the Heart Eater, but they’re all pretty cool, looking forward to the new kickstarter.
I appreciate the feedback. @WTF-AKUMA-HAX : I’d love to get some visual flair on the wiki (and the forums, and the website) but I don’t have the resources to put into it. If anyone is up to doing some web design on spec I’d love to chat!
We’ve set a date of November 13th to re-launch our Kickstarter aspirations. Save your pennies, and join us on the design forums between now and then!
If I were you I’d go get a PhD just so I could be called Doctor Strange.
The new Kaiju Combat Kickstarter is live!
Let’s get this game funded. Spread the word to anyone who loves giant monsters or fighting games, or supporting indie game development!
As most of you are already aware, our Kickstarter back in July failed to reach its funding goal. But we licked our wounds, built our community over the past four months, and now Kaiju Combat is back on Kickstarter - and much stronger for it!

If you have any questions, or want to participate in the selection of the roster, or combat mechanics design - join up on the game forums!
If you want to get into some gritty details - check out the[online](‘http://Wiki link: http://kaijucombat.wiki.zoho.com’)design wiki[.](‘http://Wiki link: http://kaijucombat.wiki.zoho.com’) Any good discussion thread in the forums gets turned into a design page here, with links back to the (ongoing) discussion that determines the design of the final game. Way too much detail for the casual fan, but just right for those few grognardy geeks among us.
If you just want to check out the monster concepts we are working with, here’s that direct link
Any questions, comments? Post it here and we’ll get you answered.
We’ve just passed the 24 hour mark, and we’ve already received $20,000 - fully 20% of what we need to raise over the next MONTH!
I am humbled by the love. And yet I still want to crush entire cities beneath my giant heel…
Keep the love flowing!
