While this event is hype I highlllllllly doubt it’s the make it or break it event that is going to make people go to evo. This will be fun to watch and bet on. But I’m not going to evo because of it. And if someone said justin wasn’t going to evo. I’m still there… hahaha.

Oh nah, I can see where you’re coming from. But I don’t believe SF4 has reached the point where telling a company 2 of SF’s big names are going at it. Is going to add money dropping into the event. I could be wrong of course, but I still stand by my original statement. I never hate on people getting paid :].
Obviously there’s ego going at it here, but they’re getting inflated to the point where people are starting to believe they’re some driving force for SF.

Probably not this year, but for future investments, it can likely happen.
And doing this event not for a good amount wont help me in the long run, This is something that will help the community and EVO mainly… It really won’t benefit the player, the only benefit the player gets is a chance to win next year for a crazy amount of sponsored money.

there are quite a few SF4 stars. Maybe not to SRK but to the “casual demographic” most def and it is all about reaching to the casual market, because they make up 90% more than the Professional tournament players.
That’s exactly my point. Fighting games haven’t even reached the level of FPS. But when I tell people I play SF. I’ve been surprised to hear people that have seen or heard of daigo.

i kinda liked it when big companies like toyota took an interest in evo. who didnt like 5k first place prizes? i know im not the type of player to even break top 8, but it sure was exciting those two years to try. it also really made the finals for each game super hype since it was too big an amount not to care.
btw, jwong, i heard you got some sponsoring or something for arcade sticks. getting paid just to use your name or something like that right? i wonder what gave that company the idea that you were worth sponsoring… maybe some EVO tournament highlight videos?
I completely agree by what Justin is saying, he realizes the fact that a match with the names Valle vs JustinW for $$$$ on it will bring in huge interest at this years Evo. This will greatly benefit Evo from all sorts of angles, and with the kind of “following” that Justin has he knows that by simply accepting the MM Evo is guaranteed “so much” this year…I believe he should be looking to make money off this because Evo sure as hell will be making money if this happens…regardless

Yo seriously, why are people hating on Justin cause his trying to make some money out of his talent. It would be nice for fighting games to have pro-players in a near future getting paid (fps amounts) and getting sponsorships.
I know most of the people here would love to get paid for playing, I know I would love to get paid in KOF who knows maybe he will open the door for other fighting games.

Probably because he waited until post 250 something on page 10 to start naming terms, and because noone has any idea what he’s getting at because we go from talking shit to making demands, to playing victim, to talking about sponsorship for next year based on a match that he already declined exposure on…
Was it hard to say on page 1 “Hey, this sounds like a fun event, I would like to see a lot of action on this for me and my EC brothers, and I want to use this to help promote myself, what do you think we should do to make this happen?”… instead it came out as: “I’m not doing this for less than 10k! I don’t need the big screen! YOU CAN’T EXPLOIT ME EVO, NOT THIS TIME I FIGURED YOU OUT”… keeping in mind that his comment to marn was what intiially set this on fire.
