ive enjoyed watching daigo since I started playing ST. I dont root for him but I do enjoy his crazy comebacks and great matches vs other players. I dont enjoy watching Wong as much (not because he isnt good because he is great) due to him mainly dominating his competetion and rarely seems like the matches are close. I just enjoy watching close matches with really good players.

So how is my opinion ill-formed? i’ve listened / to him saying the excuses, well maybe not excuses in your eyes, so ill say his views on how the tournament should of been run. He made the ‘excuse’ but he got a HUGE favor in return because he got a lot of info via money matches (which were before the last 8 fights, where he would of picked sagat)
And anyways that “excuse” wasn’t even the main point of my post if you read it… What i was trying to say is that if Justin wants to be the American face of pro-arcade he needs to change slightly so he is more mass marketable.

Chibita (a top VF Lion player) played professional Virtua Fighter in Japan for a few years and made a good amount of money playing VF4/EVO/FT in the arcades.
Large arcades would pay him to show up and play all day and they would attract massive numbers of people who would play him or just watch him play. Of course Japan =/= everywhere else.
Imagine if the arcade scene now was as big as it was in the early 90s and you could see how someone like Justin or Valle would be paid to travel around the country showing up to arcades and taking challengers on in SFIV or whatever.

As someone who doesn’t know Wong personally, he seems like an overly cocky kind of guy. Even if his overconfidence is justified, people don’t take kind to that sort of attitude. Needless to say I have rooted for Wong many times (including against Japs), but Daigo is really fun to watch, very humble and just well-rounded person. I don’t think nationalism is really a huge factor in favoritism, but moreso personality.

You misread me. I read your entire post. I do that kind of thing. I didn’t say you were a “shitty 09’er” , just that your opinion seemed ill-formed. If that’s a brutal judgement, man up. That first paragraph where you’re sitting in judgement on Wong’s playstyle was amusing to me. That would be one of the paragraphs I would type and then think to myself “Does anyone really care that I think this?” and then delete it. But that’s one of the differences between us.
