Just Rolling With It: Yang General Discussion Thread

i’ve been getting bored of ken. he’s solid and all, but i’m a yang player at heart ( wow this sounds gay ). anyway, i’ve been wondering if yang have any gay corner set ups like most of the cast? and if someone would be so kind to share with me some of his safe jumps. i only remember 2. the one off ultra 2 and the forward throw whiff cr mp.

AAing with launcher consistently is the single most fun and satisfying thing in the game for me. Maybe I’m easily amused, but damn I love it.

It’s become second to AAing with Makoto’s uppercut for me, but I still always feel awesome when I do it.

I don’t know why, but I feel that as I’ve played Yang, I think my gameplay has become more solid overall. I don’t if it’s because of the fact that he’s harder to use or just because of the character, but I just feel like I play more solidly when I play Yang. Anyone else feel this way? Yang isn’t my main either; my main is Cody.

yeah , my game improved a lot as i learned how to get in without jumping(playing footsies basically)…same here…
but i have a question about your main cody:how does this matchup goes?i’m realy struggling with cody as neutral jumps, dive kicks are not allowed against his back mp and ruffian kicks??? thx…

Well, I don’t really know any match-up specifics (I haven’t faced a single Yang with Cody and I haven’t faced a single Cody with Yang), but what I can say is that you want to approach carefully, and once you get in, go nuts. Cody has basically no proper defensive options; his best reversal is 16 frame start-up and costs meter, and his backdash is horrible (you can basically just walk forward to catch him). Bullying him with standing :lp: is good, but watch out for Zonk Knuckle since all versions have upper-body invincibility.

If he’s in on you, just block and be patient. His overhead is pretty slow, and he only really gets damage if you press buttons. Watch out for tick throws of course.

As for actually getting in…you’ll want to be careful about it. While his defensive options are quite poor, he has some really good pokes to keep you out or start his own offense. Don’t jump, try to slowly work your way in.

I wish I could be of more help here but I just don’t know much about this match-up…

Was messing around with Yang and Fei again yesterday. Lol it’s so sad how my game drops by 50% of the left side, I just can’t Rekka on the left side of the screen haha.

So I found a way of crossing up almost everybody in the cast after a combo’d mk roll kick. I don’t know how safe it exactly is because I was mostly testing how many characters in the cast I could hit with it. It doesn’t exactly work on characters you already could cross up easily like Rufus or Honda because it hits in the front so against them you should just time it normally.

So my set-up was cr. lp, st. lp, cr. mk xx mk rollkick -> then move back for a few frames and jump forward mk at just about the time the camera has reset into position. It leaves the distance you’ve moved ambiguous because you move when the camera is moving.

On Sakura I had a little trouble timing the cross-up so I had to walk a couple of frames more back so the set-up lost it’s meaning but then I realized adding one light punch corrected the spacing so I could do it with the same timing as the others. Other characters that were tricky were Cammy and Fuerte. I tested Fuerte before Sakura so maybe it works on him better after three lights as well.

Of course this isn’t exactly the safest of cross-ups because of the delay but I guess it’s something.

Also I got it to work with the same timing after a launcher jump cancelled into a HP but it’s not as good a set-up then because most opponents are already churning that butter by then and it’s easily reactable in this situation.

I’m not exactly a training room wizard so don’t crucify me if it’s not practical or if it wasn’t anything new.

If they delay the DP they can hit you out of that setup. And it doesn’t work on the smaller characters like you said, but it’s fairly easy to get used to hitting the smaller characters with it.
If you tap the stick backwards vs normal characters (Ryu,Fei, etc), it will always land.
If you train yourself to increase the step by just a little bit you’ll be able to land it pretty consistently vs the smaller characters (Ibuki, cammy, etc).

But overall this setup lands often, since most people don’t delay their DP’s.

lol look at this.
This is why Honda beats Yang

Please someone can post Yang safe jumps for 4 frames … i’m with trouble to find =/

So this “best of birds” person. Should we be playing yang like how he playes it?

he is pretty solid(top5 25th anniversary) but watch out also for 666 and maybe nemo (idk if he’s stil playing ssf4 2012 or yang )…

Also Ojisanboy. If he’s still playing Yang he’s one of (if not the best) Yang out there.

Nemo will be playing yang at this weeks tournament in Japan, but he doesnt play AE anymore, he only plays whenever his team plays.

What tournament? Did it already happen and if it did is there any footage?

Man, I am actually starting to LOVE how slept on Yang is. As I learn more and more my opponents learn nothing but how to be mindfucked against a character they have no idea how to fight. It’s beautiful, Man. Plus I really feel like I’ve been developing my own style and it’s had great results.

Hello Yang boards!

I’m a Sakura main and I’m an ok player (here is some of my matches http://www.twitch.tv/canadianjoysticks/b/342765748?t=13m10s) but I wanna start picking up Yang. I don’t really know the match up too well with Sakura and I wanna learn Yang to improve that but also have a character to really switch up my play style in tournament play since Sakura is such a burst damage style character. I also wanna help bring new tech to the Yang boards and see if all my Sakura match up knowledge can translate and help Yang. I’m quite aware of Yang’s flaws but IMO that is probably the best way to learn this game, take your “weaker” tools and test them with an opponents strength. Yang really doesn’t seem as weak as everyone makes him out to be. Viable cross up and I think hes pretty damn set. But what the hell do I know about this character lol

I just found what appears to be a really solid, tricky command grab setup. Unfortunately i don’t have a way to record video. Anyway:

Bnb FADC launcher, instant jump target combo, and buffer command grab so it comes out as you hit the ground. From my limited testing it beats three frame normal mashing and throws, and looks very strange as well. Seems very useful. DONT LET THE YANG SECTION DIE

Edit: i believe the command grab hits meaty. It obviously loses to dp, which people love to do on yangs resets, but more options is never a bad thing.

Always gotta pop in here to see what’s going on. I’ve pretty much given up on Yang, I drop combos too much for some odd reason lol, but he’s hella fun to play. Been trying Yun recently which is kinda weird now. The fact Yang is slept on, can actually work to your advantage. People underestimate him and automatically think “bottom tier, no damage”. I met a friend recently who plays him and had good mixups, I wish this character was used more.
