This is kinda my introduction to the Shoryuken message boards, I have been lurking for sometime and getting great ideas and lots of help wether it be on game mechanics, arcade sticks and arcade cabinets.

A few of weeks ago I started hitting Craigslist in the area looking for arcade cabs to see if I could make it into a MAME cabinet, and I looked on here also and stumbled upon some of the other members either working on there own Vewlix or speaking of Donavan’s. So I checked Donavan’s blog and really started looking at all his plans etc, and I saw the total cost and I said “I can do this!”

I have no prior building/painting/handyman skills at all but I wanted to do this so bad I just said screw it I’ma go buy all the materials. I already had all the electronics so the base material is all I needed. Needless to say after 2 weeks of getting friends tools, tinkering, figuring stuff out, painting and lacquering in the house lol… I finished!

My build is based off Donavan’s plans and I altered them to fit my liking. Mine is a bit taller than a real Vewlix standing at 63" for more leg room under the CP.

Some Specs:

30" Westinghouse HD Lcd

Ps3:
SF4, BlazBlue, MVC2, SF2HD, KOFXII

MAME Emulator:

Sharp Surround Sound System

If anyone has any questions feel free to ask, I will help with what I can. Thanks to all on the board for keeping this place so informative, and also thanks to Donavan. Check his site here: Donovan Myers|Street Fighter IV, Fight Stick Related Projects, and other Arcade stuff

Also thanks to ericleroi for the motivation of watching his build come to fruition.

ADD Me on ps3 if you wanna play lol!!!

CobraKAI22

Big Vewlix logo shot for everyone who was curious about the style of the vinyl etc.

VEWLIX!!!

Detail Shots

sick where is your work log? id like to make 1 any where i can or could you give me the demensions?

All these people making arcade cabs makes me jealous, but seriously NICE JOB!

Check out Donavan’s site i have linked up there. he has a google sketch program that you can go thru and design or redesign to your liking. Sorry for no worklog lol, was hard enough wanting so bad to finish this and having no patience to stop and take pics lol.

dam i gonna make 1 now:)

30 foot lcd huh? Impressive!

I wish I had the room for one and that’d become my next project. Good job, looks gorgeous.

Very nice job on that one! Envious of the large screen.

More pics please!!

Great job. I’m in the middle of building mine as well. I can’t tell you how invaluable I’ve found Donovan’s Google Sketchup files to be. There’s just something to be said about moving around a virtual 3D model in space and to be able to create objects and put them next to the cabinet for reference.

Can you tell me how you did the Vewlix logo on the marquee? Vinyl/Acrylic sticker? Would you also be able to take a picture of the back if you have a chance?

I have got to find a friend or someone with a woodworking shop. Course I have no space for a custom arcade machine, nor any woodworking skill to speak of, but still…

Guys, I live in a 1 bedroom apartment with my wife and 18 month old son, it doesn’t really take up that much room. I know yall could fit it in somewhere at the house.

@ericleroi: Yo man your machine looks flawless. i’ll pm you my email and we can send some pics back and forth.

@tokerblue: the Vewlix logo is a vinyl from kinkos, my friend printed up that and all the movelist for me. Also the movelist is laminated from there too. Its a beast to get behind that thing but maybe i can help you if you want to ask about questions about the back.

Thanks for all the comments !

are you running the mame emulator on the ps3 in yellow dog or are you also running a computer with the ps3

thanks

How do the non-HD games look on such a big screen?

Fantastic job btw

Dumb question. Is the Vewlix logo one sticker or did you have to cut it up? I’ve never printed anything at Kinko’s.

I was more curious about the back to see how you mounted everything. Is the back open for breathing room for your components?

Good stuff Cobrakai22.

I want to build one.
So many of you guys making now.

@n2trble: mame emulator fronte end for mac, integrates perfectly with the TE sticks.

@Surenio: since its wide screen it scales to 4:3 and its basically close to the same size as a real old arcade machine monitor after it crops. but the picture looks great within the emulator.

@tokerblue: the vewlix vinyl was all one piece so think like a logo for a window, same thing. kinkos had it ready to be applied. The back is completely wide open, I actually decided to not even mount the tv, the sides easily hold the tv in perfectly. the sub, ps3 etc are all in the back box wide open for breathability.

wow that’s amazing.

Awesome job, inspiring

  • Last question on the sticker.

Did you put the sticker on the wood or the plastic? Can you see the border of the sticker when it’s applied?

This gives me so much motivation to start my own now. I’m just scared of buying all the materials and then having it sit in the corner from my procrastination. Awesome job on that cabinet!
