Sorry about the big work in progress tag; it’s just a place holder while I put a more appropriate watermark on there.
This is Juri by the numbers…
- Leg up…check
- Tongue out…check
- Laser Eye Ball effect…not yet.
It wasn’t until after I made this sketch that I realized EVERYONE’s been doing very similar poses involving practically the same elements I just mentioned __ oh well.
I still need to add that swirly design to her…chest bandanna? What is that thing anyway? It’s not clothing, that’s for sure…
I’ve spent already too much time on this piece but I’ve learned a lot more about the nuances of painting in Paint Tool Sai involving the watercolor and pen settings. I have yet to actually touch the actual paint brushes (with texture and all that) and am still stuck in that ‘everything looks like glossy spandex’ phase (including the skin and hair) that seems so popular in Japan right now.
My favorite parts of the painting were adding the heavy eyeshadow (which is a little off-model for the character) and the secondary (and tertiary!) highlight colors. Because it was at that phase (way at the end of coloring) where I felt like I was adding my own touch
And if you’ve read this far, then you must be interested in my creative process. Thank you! Maybe I can bother you with a question:
Should Juri—
-
be paired with another character(s)? Which one(s)?
-
be completely solo
