Maybe when it gets warmer it’ll be easier to get to the Break. I mean, last time I went to a Break tournament with JaHa driving I still got home at 5 a.m. and had to be in my office by 9. Gotta find a way to make it back way faster.
EDIT: and when I do get back, I’ll jump in SSF if people are willing. For jokes, at least.
heres what i think should happen. different venues should host different games so that every community can get a lil love. the break should keep sc5 and marvel. local battles should do sf4 and kof and game on should do sfxt and whatever else people want to play. doesn’t have to necessarily be exactly like that but ya know what im saying. just my thoughts.
So I’m a former break frequenter, but then my car broke down and I started running local tournaments at a card shop near me. It’s a pretty small scene, but we are growing. We average 12-18 entrants a night and we are growing (considering this is like… the third week we are doing it).
Anyway, the reason I am posting this here is because we aren’t looking to compete with the break, rather we want to peacefully co-exist with them. We plan on running the games that the break isn’t running. This week we are running SF X TK and SSFIVAE2012. When the break drops Marvel we will pick it up. Just letting you guys know that there’s a place to play your favorite games on Tuesday after the break drops em. [Mar 13, 2012] Fight On! - Street Fighter X Everything Night! (Clifton, NJ)
If you dont want to “compete”, run on a different day. By putting it on the same day, you are competing, even if you’re not running the same games (although your announcement post clearly shows that you are). We already have over-saturation going on in the area with tournaments, and you’re only making it worse.
It’s the only day we are allowed to run at the store. It’s impossible to move it to another day. Also, the event posting makes it seem like you are running Marvel not SF X TK this week, that’s why we chose the games we chose. We were planning to switch as soon as you did. We aren’t looking to bite off of your contingency, just to provide people with a space to play the games they want to play. In fact I only posted in here because people were asking about where they were going to play Marvel when you guys switched out. If you’d like me to delete the post I gladly will. Please know that I mean no disrespect as the break has been wonderful to me in the past. In fact, it’s what inspired me to put together a convenient North Jersey tournament spot at the shop I am running at now.
Please understand that I am NOT trying to ruffle anyone’s feathers here. I’m just trying to give more people an opportunity to get involved with the community.
No need to do that. Let’s face it some ppl in north jersey will never come to a break tourney. Your location is much more convenient to those in North Jersey while the Break is more convenient for central jersey, south jersey and philly…
Actually I like the idea of your event. I would like to see the numbers go up for kof.
As for competition…i’m all for it. Will players who dominate game-on have the same success at the break???
Why does everyone think we are doing SFxT at the break? NOWHERE did we ever say we were doing SFxT! In fact, I’ve been vocal on both the break stream, and the local battles stream that we are NOT doing SFxT. And yet, I get asked 30 times a day about SFxT!
My problem isn’t even with what games you’re doing (though, you have marvel and soulcalibur in your listings); its about over-saturation. We’re already getting less than 16 players at the break… you’re new tournament now threatens to lower this number even further. Having 2 weekly tournaments within 30 MINUTES of each other, doing pretty much the same games will hurt BOTH of our attendance. Eventually BOTH of our tournaments will drop below 8 players (since the audience is getting split up). Eventually people will say “not enough people show up”, about BOTH of our tournaments. Eventually BOTH of our tournaments die.
Either one of these tournaments need to go, or they will both die. If the tournament to go ends up being The Break, thats fair enough. It will be sad, but thats life… I myself have made my success on the downfall of others, so I get it. I’ll probably stream your tournaments in that case… and I’m sure KDZ will show up too since Clifton is about 10 minutes from his girlfriend’s restaurant. I’m just trying to make sure you know that there is no possible way that both of these tournaments can exist at the same time.
