Joystick mounting depth

Haven’t found the informations I need in this mass of existing treads.

I have purchased an IL Eurostick and 6 competition buttons to make a nostalgic 6 button stick (with the old capcom 3 over 3 button layout :stuck_out_tongue: ) .

Haven’t found good information about the arcade correct mounting depth of the IL Eurostick.
Slagcoin writes something about 1/3" to 2/3" under the panel top, I often read that a lot of guys go with 3/4" MDF panel for their customsticks (3/4" tends to be the maximum possible).

So what is the correct mounting depth? And the hole for the joystick is always 28 mm?

Thanks so far.

Nobody here with a Happ custom stick :frowning: ?

you ideally want about 3/8 thickness between the top surface of the arcade stick and the flat top mounting surface of the iL Eurostick. If you decide on 3/4 MDF, then route the bottom recess 3/8 in. If you get 1/2 in mdf then route 1/8 in. Optionally you can try using 2 layers of 1/4 in MDF, and have 1/8 inch clear acrylic over the top if you don’t want to buy a router.

Joystick hole is 1 1/8" in or 28mm. Same as iL/Happ button holes.

“Optionally you can try using 2 layers of 1/4 in MDF, and have 1/8 inch clear acrylic over the top if you don’t want to buy a router.”

That sounds nice. That would be 5/8 inch then? I think you mean, 2 layers of 1/4, and the bottom one has a big hole where the joystick is, so the joystick passes through and is only screwed in the upper plate? And at the top the 1/8 acrylic cover, that would be 3/8 inch again.

Can someone confirm the 3/8" thing? thanks.

Yes.

I always put my happ sticks 1/2" below the panel including the plexi; so for 3/4" control panel and 1/8" plexi I rout away 3/8". This is the way it is on the sfac stick.
