I can confirm that me and Ken Bogard(Jo2uke) will definitely be there, meaning that there are at least 2 competant players. I’m not sure for Silvius (LisaLisa) and there might be a guy using Wham that’s pretty damn good too coming (he isn’t in france though).

As for Part 1 Dio beginners there might be a few but nothing we can’t handle.

So, I just bought this game even though I don’t have a PS3. Is there a way to transfer save files so I could play with all the characters at my friends house?

I pre-orderd the Western release because Namco’s doing a god job bringing this over and I figured since I pirated 26 episodes and like 93 volumes I should support them bringing such a niche series to the West. (And maybe support a sequel with Diego?) Also the store we have tournaments at and my friend who I play FG’s with have PS3’s.

How long does it take to unlock characters?

You’ll have to play through story mode to unlock the rest of the characters. Play through Parts 1-7 (Part 8 won’t unlock anyone, so you don’t need to go through it). You can go through the whole thing in one sitting (couple hours or so) since it’s pretty minimalistic (just text that you can quickly skip through) and the default AI setting is pretty easy, but you can set it to minimum to move things along quicker.

I think it took me 5 hours to unlock everyone and do all the secret missions (unnecessary for unlocking) and read the text and talk to the stream chat, so it shouldn’t be too bad if you just want to unlock.

So… I have a theory about jumping vs. ground normals in this game. I’m okay with being wrong on this, just kind of thinking based off my rudimentry testing before work.

I think that the arc of jumping is actually invincible to ground attacks unless the attack has a flag set that says something like ‘can hit jumps’. I was messing with Johnny’s H/off 5B, which looks like the perfect anti-air normal, but it absolutely would not hit a neutral jumping PB Dio if he didn’t press any buttons. The only time it hit Dio was once he was grounded… like, Dio would pass through the first part of 5B, then be forced to block the remaining active frames once he landed.

At first I thought it was just a shitty hitbox issue with Johnny 5B… but then i started testing PB Dio forward jump B vs. Johnny 5b, and they would trade sometimes. PB Dio’s J.B has a godlike hitbox so for it to trade even a little bit absolutely means something. It seems like once you press a button in the air (and this would tie into the hilariously long trip guard vulnerability if you press a button in this game) you are free game to anything.

I also think there’s LESS invincibility to ground attacks on forward/back jumps then there is on neutral jumps, making neutral empty jumps the ‘safest’… I think this because Johnny H/On 5C will hit PB Dio in the air from a forward jump where he presses no buttons, but will not hit him in the air off a neutral jump.

There are normals that ignore this… I have usually used Polnareff 5C as a anti-air, so it can’t just be ‘all normals’. Which makes me think there actually is a property on normals that says “Can hit during jump ground-normal invincibility” or whatever less-cumbersome way you can think of to say it.

Specials/supers seem to not have this application to them, as anyone can agree after getting hit by oraoras in the air.

This is all a hypothesis from messing around this morning… when i get home tonight I will do more testing.

Well, I’ve at least figured out part of the problem- empty neutral jump hurtboxes (for example, Diavolo) start at the torso, it would seem.

This would likely explain why Johnny 5B isn’t hitting in some situations- he’s so low to the ground he’s not tagging the stomach, but he IS hitting the stomach when he trades/beats some jump ins (IE Diavolo/PB Dio J.B)

I mostly figured this out by timing and noting where Polnareff 5A was hitting neutral jumps.

There’s still more to figure out though, Diavolo has some weird properties on his J.C that has occasionally caused both his J.C and the attack I was trying to use to hit him with to both pass through each other harmlessly… lol

Sounds somewhat similar to what I’ve noticed in Super Street Fighter IV’s (and other fighting games) hitbox data. Characters have jump animations with hurtboxes that cover most of their body, so most ground moves will hit them if they fall close enough. However, most/all have a few jump normals that make their lower-half into projectile invincible moves, making it a bit easier to avoid landing on a projectile you’re trying to jump over. Can’t really think of any examples where half the body is completely invincible though.

Interesting that they seemed to design the jump mechanics that way, empty jump to stay relatively safe from ground attacks while getting in for a potential mixup (little risk, little reward), as opposed to committing to an attack to start pressure/a combo while being more vulnerable (more risk, more reward).

That cover kind of makes it seem like they’re going to get another Heritage for the Future game. If Europe gets it in April, that must mean NA will get it sooner hopefully :karate:

That boxart is pretty cool, actually. And it’s awesome Fatty is coming free, he’s the DLC dude I never got for the JPN version so he’ll be my prize fro the NA release, lol.

That and (hopefully) some slightly more stable online matches, cuz heaven knows my local scene doesn’t care enough about this game. #profoundsadness

That article crushes the hopes I had interpreting the murky wording suggesting DLC would be pre loaded on the disc for the western release.
Pretty safe to say they just meant balance patches and free campaigns, but dammit I was hoping we’d get characters as well.

Going to have to wait and see if the framerate fixes are worth it then, because as it stands, importing the game is still significantly cheaper than a new release.

i’ll have it 100% on day one (already preordered 1 month ago) primarily cause i’m a jojo fan and i don’t want them to fail with sales, if the limited physical copies aren’t gonna get sold well i’m afraid they won’t make another western release for a potential sequel, and i want it.
