Hmmm this is cool but what exactly is going on? Is it some sort of quick high/low mixup involving sweep and the trap Crossfire?

Also looks like it’s a “corner” only set up? Still cool, I like Avdol but I don’t really use him too much, lol.

So.

Gyro’s meter build is so crazy good that as long as you have slightly over 1 meter at start, you can build back a meter using puttstun + taunt combo and still combo into HHA.

2AA5BCxxQCF+B (PC) J.C 2AABxxQCB+A (taunt) 5ABC DP+C HHA = 444 with no rotation or corpse parts.

For extra ease, you can actually easy beat the post taunt part, haha.

simply put, Abdul place a bomb as oki, run and activate his stand to crossup on wakeup so the opponent cant block the bomb.
I am sure they was a DIO video showing the same thing (Stand activation on a waking up opponent would croos him up)

I haven’t had a chance to check this yet, and I doubt I’d be able to tell the difference since I rarely used the move, but can it be safely used after a sweep cancel now?

EDIT: Nope, unsafe after a sweep. Still unsure if they nerfed it, though I wouldn’t be surprised if they did due him now being able to cancel into it off of a sweep. Still a rip off though for the amount you get back for half a bar, while both Dios get a special that’s easy to combo into and costs no meter while stealing more health from the opponent. Really should be healing more than theirs at least if they’re going to make it cost meter, or nix the meter cost altogether if they want to keep it that low.

I can’t believe I didn’t think of that with Polnareff! now he has some guaranteed BIG damage from just 1 bar. so hype. you can even end it with the corner loop~

it also shows what looks to be a very practical big damage setup with Kawajiri and his stand rush bubble.

because the second set of bubbles is hitting after the taunt ends. it’s the same reason why Abdul can do multiple held CFHVs, Jolyne can do multiple 22As, Giorno can do multiple 214Ms…etc.

it’s not like most taunt combos where you do the taunt right when the projectile is on top of the opponent.

essentially, there are 2 types of taunt combos:

the majority are the ones where you taunt right as the projectile is passing right on top of the opponent and for whatever reason they’re put into hitstun from that projectile as soon as the taunt is over. the patch doesn’t let you do more than one of these in a combo.

the other kinds are the ones where you use the fact that projectiles continue to move during the time you’re taunting and plan it so that the projectile hits after the taunt ends. when doing these, the line length matters (although not for jolyne since her barrier stays out for so long) because you need the right amount of time to make it work (giorno combo off of his front throw with 214M will only work with taunt A’s line but not taunt B’s line, for example).

Since 1.03 came out, they limited taunt combos to working only once in a combo as a general rule, resulting in a second attempt attempt at a taunt during a combo will have the opponent gain invincible frames until the taunt finishes. However, there’s still a few exceptions to this rule with the projectiles hitting somewhat differently with some characters like Jo2uke in the above combo vid, and Abdul with his Crossfire Hurricane Variation (the one that goes into the ground).

I swear, does anybody in this game scream more than blonde Kira? I expected the Dios to be the loudest characters in this game, but when you KO Kira, goddamn…

Also, I’m kinda wondering what the tiers look like in this game now. I honestly don’t think most characters are too far apart, but this is my conjecture from what I see on YouTube/Nico:

High tier:
Avdol, Bruno, Diavolo, DIO, Dio Brando, Gyro, Hol Horse, Jolyne, Joseph, Josuke, Jo2uke, Old Joseph

Mid tier:
Everyone not listed above or below

Low tier:
Hermes, Iggy, Rohan

I don’t feel confident extracting an S tier from my A tier above because I don’t know enough about individual matchups to know where certain characters might pull ahead of others. The only character I feel confident
saying MIGHT stand above all the rest is Diavolo, simply because he has such a STRONG projectile counter.

The only character I feel like I REALLY don’t have enough information on would be Fatty. I literally have never seen this guy played live outside of a combo video. I messed with him very briefly when he first came out, but I dunno what he might get from 1.03 that could enhance his basic game, as well as what his biggest strengths and weaknesses are in match play.

For me, pretty much the entire cast is in the middle, with a very small noticeable top/bottom tier

S: Avdol (only because of Leebee’s taunt combo), PB Dio, Joesph, Fugo
Mid: Everyone else, where they should be. If they made no changes to these guys I’d be pretty happy.
Poop: Akira, Hermes, Iggy, Rohan

And honestly, every day that passes makes me less and less afraid of PB Dio, just because people are exploiting different ways to punish SJ.

I’m willing to move Jolyne when I see Leebee’s multi taunt combo, it sounds retarded on paper but I couldn’t replicate it (I… didn’t try particularly hard, lol). Her particular brand of mid/low mixup in Stand On is so overwhelming IMO, and Stand Off is like, the best Barrier-type zoner (barrier/low string/switch to Stand On C-OraOra) so if taunt combos give her the damage she had before, that’d be bonkers.

Hermes I feel like I covered pretty well. She just needs a lot of little adjustments and/or more damage.

Akira, literately his only change needed is that he needs electricity gauge to work differently. Either buff how much gauge you build with the charge, or let his level 1 give overcharge when you are not currently charged. Overcharged Akira is crazy good. Undercharged Akira is unoiled Ha… you know what, Akira is just Hakan. Period. Except you work even harder for Oil/Gauge.

I don’t know how you’d balance Iggy, lol. give him a little more health? :confused:

Rohan I covered before. I still haven’t had a chance to test his reverse taunt vs. taunt combos (I played last night offline and totally forgot to test it, aaah) so if that does some cool stuff like screw up other people’s taunt combos, I will absolutely move him up to mid tier.

Fatty is awesome. Defense stance is kind of useless unfortunately just because it seems like the all-block stance isn’t active from frame one, but offense stance literately does everything you want. Taunt combo gives him level 1 combo damage of 340-350, he has really good zoning, he has a command grab that let’s him do like… A-command grab > summon harvest > hold up forward, and it gives him the perfect range for j.C/2A mixup, timing let’s him block shoryu stuff if he dosen’t press any buttons, and that particular setup leaves him with 3 harvest to do his big bnb off of a hitconfirm, his hitbox is small, J.C is hilariously good, 5BC/2C is good, he builds really good meter, his level 2 is legit… he’s a solid mid for sure

Can we please get character sub forums? I mean Dive Kick has them and plastation all stars have their own forum for christ sakes. I its hard to follow what is going on in here. Any changes to Mista and Kakyoin in the new patch. It seems its very easy to find info for characters like Dio but very little for lesser played chars (for example Mista!).
