Am I the only one who doesn’t give a damn about the drama, and just want FGC events to be amazing?
I’m somewhat this way. Had Revelations been fun, I would have barely cared about some of this crap.
If people want to talk about whether or not it was shady for top players to promote TL and Revelations, it should have its own thread. This thread is supposed to be about John Nelson and his fuck ups with the community.
I definitely didn’t see Air there, but I only came for Marvel so he might have left early or something.
Though I’d bet that Air wasn’t there at all. That video you posted is actually the second version of that trailer. Infrit called out Nelson for putting his name in the trailer, so he had to edit Infrit’s name out along with X-Ray and Y2J. Btw, this also led to Nelson giving Honzo his address so they could get “old-school.”
The earlier version also had names like CD Jr. and Perfect Legend…under Street Fighter.
The thing that sickens me the most out of this entire situation, is that this mob mentality is spreading everywhere. As a sponsored player I was NOT “required” to attend Revelations. I have a right to choose not to attend any tournament I want to. Fighting game tournaments represent less than 40% of my income but are still a nice chunk of change. I was never paid by Revelations to promote anything. I DIDN’T even promote revelations. If someone asked me where I was going that weekend I told them, as that would be another opportunity for people to see an Afterglow controller doing well.
I’m part of a new team and my team did well. The team leader was there with us at this tournament (had no idea bout the rumors) and couldn’t have been happier. He was so proud of our performance and I was extremely proud as well. One of my teammates, snake eyez, in particular played better than I’ve ever seen him play and I’ve always thought he was very talented. This was an opportunity for people to realize the degree of talent he has, since we all already knew he was talented. The viewership was relatively low for a major with this caliber of players. That’s harmful to us. People still find it hard to find the results of this tournament where snake eyez got 2nd in sfxt and sf4, vance got 5th in sf4 and I got 3rd in marvel. Our manager has to go back and make a report telling the higher ups the figures. Our placing, the viewers the highlights, which, snake eyez putting FChamp, possibly the best dhalsim in the world, into losers, was one of them. I expected a gigantic hike in his twitter followers and just overall awareness of him to increase. It barely has because the results of this event are still nowhere to be seen. The actions of many are affecting him so badly, and it hurts because he’s a teammate and becoming a friend.
I’m not a Justin Wong or FChamp, or Combofiend or anyone else of that caliber. I’m still VERY excited every time I do well at a major and this is my 2nd best achievement at a major in 4 years (4th best in my life) and it will be overshadowed by the hatred of John Nelson. Snake eyez doesn’t say much and of course hasn’t asked me to post anything like this, but I’m sure he’s disappointed too by the lack of acknowledgment of his performance. Not saying there was none, just saying the proportions are so off.
Hazmat being slammed for someone saying “those girls are nice to look at but probably not the best to commentate.” When clearly they weren’t into the fighting games that were on (and really fighting games in general.) No one said ALL girls, he was simply referring to those girls who basically had already admitted it themselves when I was interviewing them. After the interview I talked to one of the girls (the obviously more intelligent one) for a little bit afterwards. He said I was trying to get her digits… and apparently that was disrespectful to women. Though I wasn’t, if I had been, it wouldn’t have been a crime. I’m just severely disappointed and I almost let it affect my actions.
I’m sure I’ll get slammed for this as well… but I’ll just assume that this will reach the decent people as well and affect their actions.
I’m glad to see you’re waking up early… new sleep cycle? Or did you not sleep? Building up my druid pretty quick in wow, we might have to resurrect soon.
I’ve known Justin for like 7 years now, not just as a player but as a person, because SB co-founder Fugee and him became good friends around 2004 or 2005. He’s a kind, modest, generous guy, and I don’t think he’s changed, outside of becoming a little more outgoing probably. I couldn’t believe a young guy who was winning so much $$ (at the time, he could place or win in every game) would spend so much of it on others.
I’ve known Ryan (FChamp) for a few years too and he’s always enthusiastically gone out of his way to thank me for putting on a huge event like SB for the players. Even just in the confines of a tournament, you get to know people through the FGC, and Ryan genuinely loves competition and FGC events.
Just because they went to RevaLAtions when others didn’t doesn’t mean they’re bad people or some nonsense. They hoped the event would be great and they were there to compete, they are hardly Revalations PR guys just because they tried to get other people excited about it.
I know the FGC is an A.D.D., knee-jerk, pile-on community now (when it comes to online posting) but the people who travel across the country and really support the community know who these guys are. I don’t like seeing their name run through the mud – I understand people being angry about their support of RevaLAtions, but I’m just saying they are good guys, they believed it would deliver, and the real issue is not anger with them.
I think only FChamp is still with Complexity ATM, so that’s what he’s talking about.
this
and also, there are a FEW people that post in this thread that know a lot bout what is going on and the other percentage know absolutely nothing. Keep reading forums and pretend like your a part of this thing.

I had fun ;____;
Air was not able to go to the tournament at the last minute because of something that came up. I was there representing CCG though.
This is exactly what happened on Ultrachen tv at minute 11:33 http://twitch.tv/ultrachentv/b/329370731
From what I understand the KOF community did something to be proud although no tournament was going down this weekend. Are the right people being punished by all this?
John Nelson promised to refund the KOF players registration money and as of today we’ve not heard anything from him. TL also made it public on Twitter, please see below.
i’m glad you came on and gave your side of Revelations. But the problem most of us are having is you calling out people for lying and then not backing up your claims. Care to explain?
^ I think it would help reach a resolution if fanatiq explained himself but at this point it’s safe to assume he just doesn’t want to go there.
Since the RevLA drama started, I see a lot of people going at each other’s throats in here and on twitter. Then there’s the “stream monsters” eating up all the drama and trying to instigate, it’s really sad.
Chalk it up to incompetence or what you will, I’ve been in similar predicaments multiple times in the FGC and it’s always a discouraging experience. Can we all agree that John Nelson just needs to go away? Or is this still being contended?
The thing about this situation is that it is a local issue. Most of the issues involve local players in SoCal and not the rest of the community. The issue of shady TO’s or people promising more than can be delivered, on the other hand, is something that does need to be addressed.
This is for the Cali community to deal with, not the whole of SRK.
It’s too bad that this isn’t the focus of this thread anymore, and now it’s just people sniping top players, possibly because they just don’t like them.
It’s ok guys, I’ll refocus you!!

AH thanks. I blame my sleep schedule and I was reading Jebailey’s post explaining the situation.
WHy would you get slammed for finally speaking your mind versus your previous posting? “I respect that.”
Look at it this way, KOF being cancelled is so bad no one can find any reason to argue otherwise.
I’m wondering: what happens if he doesn’t issue the refunds? If he does, what then? The refund seems like the most ethical thing to do, even though the absence of $3k is still messed up.
truthfully i didn’t believe that he would refund them at all. posting a promise that you would on twitter is not some sort of legal holding, and it’s extrermely rare for a major to refund entry and venue fees.
