John Nelson, Tournament Legacy, and Team HORI

How much are the entry fees that need to be reimbursed?

is there any truth to this? or is this just JN trying to cover his ass after popping off to Markman and Jebailey?

also, i can’t wait for this…

This thread will still be here i’d imagine haha. I’m sure there will be a brainstorm of sorts. That being said unless it was stated beforehand that tickets are refundable then i don’t see why they would do that to be honest, from a business point of view anyway. If even half the stories here are true then i wouldn’t expect to see any of that money again. Still you could all be in for a pleasant surprise! One thing this thread certainly has done is point the spotlight in the right direction.

First of all my apologies for what I said on the forums and twitter, it was incorrect and all calling you out and I’m sorry if this drama would affect the rest of your team after that amazing show off Snake Eyes did…

And thank you for giving us an explanation. If you don’t wanna talk anymore about this, I understand.

To be fair, a process in giving everyone a refund for something like this could take up to 2 weeks. I’d say give it some more time before anyone jumps to conclusion (but then again, I suppose it’s best to prepare for the worse in this case).

Whatever else, that sort of thing happening is unprofessional.

Good will?

No, get out…

Spoiler

joke, now you have a mention

Passion

It’s not just a local issue. Smash was promised a $2,500 pot to be split between singles and doubles. While I didn’t attend personally, a couple of people from DFW Smash did attend, and if they were to have been paid out, it would have been their asses waiting for a month on JN to write their checks. Thankfully, according to some reports, JN didn’t screw with Smash because Mike Haze handled it all.

The people made to look shitty in the long run are the ones in Cali. The people getting consistently the short end are from Cali. The ones that have unresolved business dealings are also from Cali. For better or worse this stuff needs to get handled by the community over there.

What’s left for the rest of us is to have a discussion on the complicated life of a TO, how to make it easier and how stop this stuff from happening in the future.

Mike Ross is still a member of Team Complexity.

you would think the top players where their parents or some shit

I think we have to wait for this to add anything new to the story.

What?

For EVERYONE that’s hating on Jwong or Fchamp with them going to Revelation. First of all, don’t forget that they’re sponsored players, so if their sponsor wants them to go, they pretty much have to go (its just like your boss telling u to do something, you just gotta do it). Also, all sponsor want their event to be hyped up as much as possible in order to get maximum exposure, so of course they will ask their players to advertise it as much as possible (its just like Nike asking LeBron/Kobe to promote their new shoes). So Right now, we have no idea did Jwong/Fchamp and other players went to Revelation 2012 because of sponsor or whatnot, and are their promotion of the event part of sponsorship requirement. So don’t lynch them for “dishonesty” when they’re also just doing their job.

Right now, the only massive problem we have at revelation 2012 is the Pot situation with KOF, and I am willing to wait for TL to come with a logical and Plausable reasoning behind the whole situation (since we already heard The Answer’s version) (along with a reasonable solution) before I will condemn the guy and TL. For all of you, just CHILL and lay off the Salt and stop getting pissed off over soemthing like this (this ain’t a ground breaking event like EVO getting cancel or something crazy like that), beside, this won’t kill you…unless you make it your life-time goal of destroying John Nelson and TL, then I will say good luck to you.

At this point it’d be beating a dead horse, and other people have already echoed it

I feel like this should be addressed as well. The reason why I went on a forum like SRK rather than the various SoCal Facebook groups or whatever is because TL is reaching out to players beyond SoCal. Rev 2011 line-up is pretty much a perfect example. And this year, SoCal players themselves are reaching out to their peers to attend, and in some cases regretting the decision. And really, the only “action” I’m asking for is basically not supporting this guy anymore. Not exactly asking people on the East Coast to come out here and riot outside of TL’s HQ or whatever.

At this point, I’m beginning to agree with a lot of the people disgusted with this thread that it should be closed if we don’t hear anything from TL “in the coming days”. If we’re not going to hear anything from JN/TL or whoever else is supposedly at fault for the past here, then fine. I haven’t really heard anyone be against just not attending future TL events outside of they want/need the money (which like it or not, is a legit reason, especially as fighting games grow in popularity in competitive gaming). So if we aren’t going to get an answer, let’s just keep this issue in the back of our minds for the future. Eventually tournament Darwinism will kick in and everything will work out so long as we don’t forget. But as long as we keep derailing the topic or not getting any progress from the other side of the story, this pretty much isn’t going anywhere. The only credibility we should be calling into question is TL’s and my own.

Also, apologies (I feel like I’m doing this a lot now) for everyone who was indirectly involved and attacked because of this. I thought I knew all the consequences of creating this thread, but due to my own ignorance I did not expect that.

I’d never knock another mans hustle…If Jwong, Champ, and the rest of the top players want to compete for that money, then more power to them. They’ve played TL events before and have been paid off. I wouldn’t knock them for wanting to compete again. That being said, other people feel they’ve been dicked by JN and choose not to support his events and that’s fine too. We’re all adults and can make up our own minds. The stories and info are out there at this point…both sides of the arguement. It’s up to you to decide what’s legit and what’s not and go from there. I’m a random and my opinion doesn’t mean much, but I choose not to support TL events, but if Jwong, Champ, and Fanatiq want to, who am I do say otherwise? Go get that money then it’s on to the next one.

If you win and you get that money, you won. If you lose and you don’t get that money, you lost. If you win and don’t get that money, you got played. If you don’t win and still get that money, you’re GDLK.

Hating/Loving on people for doing all of the above, is a giant waste of time.

Preach that shit. That being said, I don’t win much anymore… and I still want to get paid. :C

This thread is the most awesome thing I have ever wasted time on.
Fucking beautiful.

But it makes me wonder…when did all this shit about running fighting game tournaments get so damn complicated? Why can’t we go back to simpler times? Is that not so hard? Be easier for everyone’s stress levels.
