John Nelson, Tournament Legacy, and Team HORI

**Okay this needs to stop now, we were focusing TL and JN and now ended up talking about how players “betrayed” this community. If they did went to RevLA, okay, they went, won some money, whatever, they will know when to speak. The only focus here in this thread should be JN, the fuck ups he made during his career as a TO and whatever he is prepared to keep doing this, nothing else. **

I was pretty baffled when someone told me my name was in the trailer.

  1. I hadn’t even signed up yet and wasn’t even sure if I was going
    and
  2. If you want to name drop top players in that game, there are easily much bigger names.

I was at the tourney. It was fun but John Nelson seemed shady. He accused me of walking out along with the KoF guys which I obviously didn’t do and told him as such, only to be ignored for the most part. I was ready to play KoF and there was no knowledge of the tourney being cancelled for me. I think they just took advantage of the situation and used the pot to pay off SFXT players who were ready to play and pissed about the decreased pot.

The evidence here is pretty damning but it was still a good event overall. I think John Nelson needs to work on his people skills though.

EDIT: By Pay off I mean, SFXT pot size was increased back to 5000, i think.

lol you should stop doing that. these fools don’t need your money

Triforce is right on the spot:

There are many people out there who didn’t say a word before the tournament because they wanted to make it less visible possible.
These same people are showing very strong support to the KOF community for their move.
These same people don’t say a word on this thread and will be staying very “good friends” with the top players like Justin Champ and Fanatiq even though they took the opposite stand than the KOF community did.

Making your name big on the sacrifices of others (KOF community) and the actions of another man (John Nelson) is a despicable practice.

Musacci is very correct here. I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament as marvel was ran pretty smoothly once it started.

Hey everyone Haz here, just got back to Arizona after driving for 6 and half hours, really really tired overall but didn’t wanna go to bed without telling you that am gonna be on a stream at some point this week or the next one tops (mine or someone else’s stream) and talk a little bit about our weekend overall and what we saw and did and noticed and everything, am NOT taking sides and not gonna be attacking or defending anyone but after those tough times I think we deserve to say what we feel and think about this.

For all who defended us here and on twitter we thanks you so much for the support and the understanding, you were our force to keep going through this weekend without failing and keeping our job solid in this “War Zone”

what is the FGC?

Guys, if you really think about it, it’s not all that bad because JN only fucked over the little guys. No big names got hurt. Gootecks wasn’t even that big at the time he got thrown out.

I <3 you guys, you guys were really friendly. once Persona started it was run really well even though there was only 4 setups. I don’t know his name but the black guy running it was awesome and ran it pretty quickly and sorry if I annoyed him by asking him some questions when he was busy DQing people that didn’t show

You didn’t really think about that did you. Or its a one sentence right into punch line, judgmental Streammonster blurb.

The community is more than top players and funneling money into them and only them. The community is players in your area. Your friends, the best players in your region. Those are the guys to give money to, directly or indirectly with Tournaments they win that you participated in, Ranbats they place high in, seeking funding to go to majors or overseas and represent you and your guys the best they can. So you fundraise for them, you donate to them. Maybe you seek money matches with them, small stakes to see where you stack up and ask them to give you their best, to show you all the holes in your game. Maybe he will do it for free, without compensation that way, no need to take your money knowing he will just beat you down real quick. Maybe he will invite you into his inner circle and home games and see his training regimens or grind it out and learn matchups together. These aren’t major stretches if you’re legit and have conviction yourself. There’s always someone going to be better than you, so how do you think he feels around better players? Does he seek them out too at all costs? He might feel like you currently do around him. That’s fine. Your favorite players will have favorite players. How do you think they got started in the scene?

Don’t think you can never be on their level. Strive to reach their level and higher.
Don’t wish that maybe if you win this Raffle for a stick, you’ll be better equipped to grind it out online, beat your friends, reach top leaderboards, then finally come to Tournaments and place real high.
Don’t think you need to go thru all of that to play the top players. People could have had a chance to play Daigo for years if they’d just enter the SF2 SuperTurbo side Tournies. Once even, with beers in hand all around right after the game!
Don’t ignore the best players in your area as complete scrubs compared to JWong/ChrisG/Fuudo/whoever. They can teach you much better than the old, $50 a hour XBL/PSN sessions.
Don’t be an armchair quarterback, “He dropped the combo, (the announcer made a big deal about it) that’s why he lost.” Without even knowing, wow, that’s Marvel & the spacing was really strange going in a 270 of the 360 degree possible angles so it probably wasn’t possible at that riduculous 3 screens up height. Or just not knowing what freakin’ combo he was going for in any capacity. Or know that, Combofiend “doesn’t drop combos” but plays heavy hitters with lower execution than all the juggles around with other characters in KOF13. Dropping combos in KOF13 is going to happen and its different from Marvel.

Nobody said it so far but liked his post a lot about limos. Guess I’ll say it so nobody has to.

“Man, I wanna be Gootecks when I grow up!”

Gootecks is pretty dope, with Urien. He was pretty big in the Street Fighter Scene, with 3rd Strike & or selling things Viscant may need to supplement his fl—light… anyways.

Screwing over a lot of little guys, in order to pay out the top guys and everyone else can shove it, is not what the community has ever been about. Everyone matters.

Im glad someone in here understands …

Tbh Im a tournament sponsored player its my job to go to tournaments and to compete at the highest level.
Pls do not fault the top players for going to an event that could promote the sponsors and potentially win prizes
im sorry not all of us have a REAL 9-5 and arent contractually obligated to attend all the events.

Once again SATAN could be running an event and if my sponsor tells me to go…
then i have to go.
I hope this clears some things up.

I agree with you, but that was obviously a joke. I think your sarcasm detector needs to get looked at.

I said as much too. not oblivious to weakass jokes. Level up on forums, christ, quote a whole big thing right after its said for one line.

Keep the jokes to the stream chat. What I said isn’t said enough. There’s enough jokes to go around, I made several in there which look out of place.

I can easily take this one right into another FGD thread with less traffic to supplement someone’s: “I have nobody near me in the scene so I give them money online” just the same for answers and reasons.

What I find the most entertaining about all of this is that, a good 80% of you didn’t even know about JN until this stuff started becoming public. Now that same 80% are all experts and have something to chime in about like they’ve got any idea of what’s really going on. I wonder if he’s to blame for 9/11? Was JN responsible for the 2012 Mayan Predictions too?

I’m just curious because this same 80% of people I’m referring to, I bet you’re the same people who mindlessly agree with whatever the current flavor of the month trend is, regardless of how obsurd or retarded it might seem simply because it’s the “trendy” thing to do at the time.

…I bet Satan would have the best tournament ever…

Fire everywhere

Bitches & Nos

Personally, I brought your name as well as Justin’s one into this thread because people were being incoherent and I wasn’t understanding.
After reading almost 700 posts I realized that some people on this thread and on twitter just exploited this situation to make themselves look like paladins of the community. They were (and still are) doing this with a high degree of incoherence.
You and Justin decided to behave differently from the KOF community, this is perfectly reasonable. Especially if you consider that tournaments are your main source of income and being at this tournament gave you 10k.

I don’t like double standards and people pretending to be paladins without even taking a clear stand. I’m stressing this because I believe the majority of the people here are biased and wouldn’t be able to see the big picture of this situation.

keep it down in here! i’m trying to do a SRK search of my name to see if anyone is talking about me because i’m self-obsessed, but all of the search results are of this john nelson guy :(!!!

Who was criticizing you for attending an event? I didn’t see anyone do that. I saw people criticizing you for actively promoting an event by a known shady organizer. If you want to address that point rather than doing this silly deflective bullshit I’m sure everyone will be all ears.

If he’s sponsored to play in an event, he’s sponsored to promote the event so that more people can see him (and his brand) on stream…
