Alien and Elephant Man are two of my favorite movies of all time. 1984 is fucking awesome. Rob Roy’s one of those movies that almost nobody remembers seeing but is definitely really, really good. Not to mention all those bit roles in Harry Potter movies, Hellboy, his voice acting jobs and the other hundreds of projects the dude was in. Truly one of the all-time greats, if only because unlike Pacino or Sam Jackson, he got small roles in really good, or at the very least successful films as opposed to top billing in unwatchable horseshit. John Hurt’s one of those guys that’s in everything and everyone recognizes even if they don’t necessarily remember his name because he had a discerning eye for quality and/or an amazing agent.

Sad to hear him go, but at least 77 is a decent age to get to.

He contributed much to the industry and he is in many ways immortalized by his contributions. His role as Braddock in 1984’s The Hit truly stands out in my memory.

He played both sides of the spectrum extremely well. About twenty years after playing Winston in 1984, he played the dictator in V for Vendetta, and I like to think the irony was not lost on him. We’ve lost a truly multifaceted talent.

He isn’t Hurt anymore.
